TEX Rangers and NYY Yankees
Take Over

So how is NY starter Sidney Ponson 5-1? With smoke and mirrors! This guy is still very hittable, giving up 76 hits in 61 innings. Throw in 20 walks and that's a whopping 96 base runners in 61 innings. Texas is ranked No. 1 in the AL in runs scored, while NY is 7th in runs, 4th in OBP. Rangers righty Luis Mendoza is a journeyman with a 5.40 ERA for the season and 0-2 with a 9.31 ERA his last three starts. Look for plenty of runs in the House that Ruth Built. Play the Rangers/Yankees over the total!

KC Royals and BAL Orioles
Take BAL Orioles

Gil Meche has been very good lately for the Royals, while Daniel Cabrera is scuffling for the Orioles. The oddsmakers have recognized this and installed a very short price on this contest. But the O's are the better team, particularly if David DeJesus is still out for KC, and Cabrera has awesome stats against the Royals. I'll go with the Orioles to come away with the win.

Philadelphia Phillies vs. Atlanta Braves
1 Unit on Philadelphia Phillies +125

With the way the Phillies have owned the Braves over the last few years, I’ll gladly take them as an underdog in Atlanta tonight. The Phillies are now 15-7 in their last 22 road meetings with the Braves. Atlanta is 4-14 against the money line in home games vs. an NL starting pitcher whose WHIP is 1.450 to 1.550 over the last 3 seasons. The Phillies are 6-1 in seven games against the Braves this season. Philadelphia always gets up for the Braves, playing their best baseball. Adam Eaton is 16-5 against the money line when playing against a marginal losing team (Win Pct. 46% to 49%) since 1997. Cash in with the Phillies as the dog.

Info Plays

Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Houston Astros
3* on Houston Astros +101

Play Against - Road teams when the money line is +125 to -125 (LA DODGERS) - cold hitting team - batting .240 or worse over their last 10 games, with a cold starting pitcher- ERA >= 7.50 over his last 3 starts. This is a 42-14 ML System hitting 75% over the last 5 seasons. This is an easy bet to make tonight with Hiroki Kuroda making his first start back from the disabled list tonight. He’ll have fresh memories of the terrible outings he has had over his last 3 starts, allowing Houston to get the bats going to hand the Dodgers a road loss tonight. Bet Houston at home.

Washington Nationals vs. Florida Marlins
Play: Washington Nationals

FLORIDA is 19-28 (-14.3 Units) against the money line in home games vs. poor power teams - averaging 0.9 or less HR's/game over the last 2 seasons. FLORIDA is 7-16 (-10.5 Units) against the money line vs. NL teams scoring 4.3 or less runs/game in the second half of the season over the last 2 seasons. WASHINGTON is 34-29 (+14.7 Units) against the money line vs. a bad bullpen that blows 38% or more of their save opportunities over the last 2 seasons. PEREZ is 39-18 (+19.6 Units) against the money line vs. an NL team with an on base percentage .325 or worse since 1997. (Team's Record)

Black Widow Sports

Washington Nationals vs. Florida Marlins
1* on Florida Marlins -159

This is a game the Florida Marlins will not be losing Wednesday. They are a heavy favorite for a reason. Florida is 17-6 (+13.7 Units) against the money line vs. an NL team with an on base percentage .315 or worse this season. Florida is 21-11 (+13.4 Units) against the money line vs. poor baserunning teams - averaging 0.5 or less SB's/game this season. Florida is 19-7 (+14.6 Units) against the money line vs. an NL team with a team batting average of .250 or worse this season. This Nationals’ team cannot keep up with the Marlins on the scoreboard. Ricky Nolasco’s 2-0 record with a 2.28 ERA over his last 3 starts looks very promising. Take the Marlins on the Money Line.

Boston Red Sox vs. Tampa Bay Rays
Play: Boston

If the Bosox are going to break through here and win one at Tampa, this may very well be their best shot. They send 9-1 Daisuke Matsuzaka to the mound. As good as the record looks though, the Rays have had his number since even before they became the best team in baseball. Last year he was 0-3 against the Rays with a 5.40. But the bright spot, aside from the 9-1 mark this year, is his road performance. He's 4-0 on the road this year with a 2.20 era.

The Rays send Kazmir to the hill tonight and at 7-3 with a 2.28 era, there may actually be some worries here. His last few outings haven't measured up to previous ones. He hasn't made it past 6 innings his last 3 starts and gave up 4 runs to the Pirates his last time out. The Red Sox also managed to hit him pretty good when they faced him at Fenway (though they seem to hit everyone there) with 4 runs and 6 hits in a 7-3 loss back in May.

The home team in this series this year, has won every game. The Sox are cold and the Rays are hot. Baseball is a streaky game. A general rule of thumb in baseball betting is to try and stay away from betting on teams in the midst of a losing streak. The Sox have lost 4 in a row. Another rule of thumb is to try and avoid betting against teams on a winning streak. The Rays have won 3 straight.

So it's with all of that in mind, that we close our eyes and cross our fingers tonight as we back the Boston Red Sox at +130 to finally break through and win one on the road against the Rays. They head to the Bronx for the 4th of July series with the Yankees and don't want to go into that series on a 5 game losing streak. With Matsuzaka on the mound, it looks to be their best chance to grab a win.

Vegas Experts

Cleveland Indians at Chicago White Sox

The Indians have lost all five meetings with the White Sox here at US Cellular Field, but tonight they have CC Sabathia on their side. The hefty lefty is auditioning himself for a potential trade and has done quite the job so far as the Tribe has won each of his previous four starts. In two of those outings, including the last, he allowed no runs and he's worked into the 7th on all four occasions. Counterpart Contreras has an ERA of 8.44 his last three starts.

Play on: Cleveland

Steve Merril

Kansas City Royals vs. Baltimore Orioles
Play: Baltimore Orioles

Kansas City finished interleague play with a 13-5 record, but they have struggled versus American League teams with a weak 25-41 record and it appears they are returning to their losing ways as they have now dropped 3 of their past 4 games, including a 7-5 loss last night in Baltimore. The Orioles remain an underrated squad this season with a 42-40 record, including 23-13 at home, while playing in the competitive AL East division. Kansas City is averaging just 4.0 runs per game and batting only .255 on the road this season. Look for the Royals to struggle offensively tonight as my pitcher performance ratings predict a strong bounce-back effort from Baltimore’s Daniel Cabrera. Cabrera is coming off back-to-back road losses, but still has a solid 1.39 WHIP in his 16 starts this season. Meanwhile, my pitcher performance ratings predict a correction for the Royals’ Gil Meche who is coming off three straight wins. Despite his recent success, he still has a mediocre 4.57 ERA in his 17 starts this season.
