Washington Nationals at Colorado Rockies
Pick: OVER 9.5
When I picked the Rockies last night as part of my Baseball Triple Play Package, I wrote about Colorado's success against lefties at home. Colorado is batting .324 and scoring 7.2 runs per game against lefty starters at home this season. The Rockies are also batting .357 and scoring 8.33 runs per game against lefties over their last ten games. But even light-hitting Washington is batting .290 and scoring 5.53 runs per game against lefties over their last ten games. Did I mention we have a pair of lefty starters going tonight?
Let's look at how the batters for these two teams have fared against tonight's opposing starter. In their collective careers against Odalis Perez, the Rockies hitters are 22-for-52 (.423, 8 doubles, 1 homer). What may surprise you is, in their collective careers against Jeff Francis, Washington's hitters are 17-for-36 (.472, 2 doubles, 2 homers). That's a hefty average on both sides. Sprinkle in a few walks and there should be plenty of scoring in this one.
The OVER is 8-1 in the Nationals' last 9 games vs. a left-handed starter. The OVER is also 6-1 in the Rockies' last 7 home games vs. a left-handed starter and 11-1 in Francis' last 12 starts vs. teams from the National League East. The OVER is also 7-1 in the last 8 meetings between these two teams in Colorado.

Rookie Nick Blackburn has had the occasional rough spot, but most of those bad outings have been against the big time offenses. He's done really well against the softer lineups and he gets one here against the Mariners. I can't say there's much hesitation in trying to beat Seattle's Jared Washburn, and it's a big game for the road team. The Twins are the choice.

Chicago is happy to be home after a 10-game trip. That will help their pitching staff, which is 6th overall in the AL. Starter John Danks has been strong, at 8-4 with a 3.31 ERA, walking few while allowing less hits than innings pitched. Third baseman Joe Crede probably won't be activated from the 15-day disabled list because the tightness in his lower back has not subsided. Manager Ozzie Guillen will stick with Juan Uribe over Josh Fields at third because of Uribe's superior fielding. "I believe in defense," Guillen said. Detroit fireballer Justin Verlander has a 6.87 ERA his last three starts and lifetime is just 1-3 against Chicago with a 6.15 ERA. Play the White Sox!

SAN FRANCISCO R/L +120
* The Giants have won all six of Tim Lincecum's career starts after he's struck out 10 or more batters in his previous start.
* Atlanta SP Chuck James has been absolutely horrific on the road this season - posting an 0-3 record and 11.08 ERA in three starts. He's allowed 51 batters to reach base in just 25 2/3 innings. He's also allowed a home run in al six of his starts this season, which may be enough in this game.
* Lincecum is a stellar 5-1 with a 3.05 ERA in 10 daytime starts this season.
* The home team is 22-7 in home plate umpire Derryl Cousins' last 29 games - including a 9-3 win with Lincecum over James last year.

Los Angeles Dodgers -110
The LA Dodgers behind a new look offense that features all star Manny Ramirez look like viable wagering options tonight as they prepare to tee off the Cardinals Joel Pineiro (3-5, 5.04 ERA). The native of Puerto Rico has looked bad in his last four starts, allowing 10 hits each time out, while garnering a ugly 8.31 ERA.
Meanwhile, his pitching opponent, right hander Derek Lowe (8-9, 3.70), is 3-1 in his 5 starts along with a stable 3.06 ERA, and despite of a sub par .500 record this season, almost always gives his team a chance of victory. The Dearborn , Michigan native biggest problem during his current campaign has been run support, however, with the red hot bat of Ramirez backing him, I am predicting that problem will be put to rest.
Final notes & Key Trends: Ramirez in his career vs Pineiro is 11 for 26 (.423 BA).

Baltimore Orioles vs. LAA Angels
Play: LAA Angels
Baltimore has a good young pitcher on their hands in Garrett Olsen, who is coming off back-to-back wins, and is 8-5 on the year, with an ERA at 5.50. The Angels are countering with 12 game winner Ervin Santana who snapped a mini two game slide last time out with an 8 inning 5 hit outing in a 1-0 win at Yankees Stadium. Look for more of the same from Santana and the Angels as they win the afternoon affair. Play on the LA Angels
Big Al McMordie
New York Yankees vs. Texas Rangers
Play: New York Yankees
At 8:05pm our complimentary selection is on the New York Yankees over the Texas Rangers. It can't get much more daunting than the situation for Texas' young righthanded starter Tommy Hunter. Just barely 22 years old and still in his first professional season, Hunter will step to the mound tonight to face the likes of Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez, and Johnny Damon in only his second-ever Major League start. It was originally thought that Hunter would be a one-start pitcher getting a spot start for the injured Eric Hurley. That first start was less-than-inspiring, but Hurley's injury has since landed him on the DL so Hunter will remain in the rotation, at least for now. Unlike the Yankees, injuries to Texas players this season have not been earth-shattering as this is a team that realistically is still in rebuilding mode and never really thought it would compete in 2008. But for the mighty Bronx Bombers, the multiple injuries they've suffered so far in '08 have put a serious crimp in their plans to once again appear in the post-season. And now, you can add Joba Chaberlain to the list of walking wounded as he has developed a potentially serious shoulder injury. So, it appears that the most unlikely of regular AL starters, Sidney Ponson, will remain in the Yankee rotation for the foreseeable future as the combination of his strong performances and the growing list of Yankee pitching injuries more or less guarantees him a job unless he totally implodes on the mound. Even with the Rangers' win on Tuesday, the Yankees are still 21-8 in the last 29 meetings of these two teams and 19-8 in the last 27 in Arlington. Take the Yankees.
