Scott Rickenback

Colorado Rockies @ San Francisco Giants
PICK: San Francisco Giants

I do not play big favorites as star rated plays. In this case tonight, I do see value with the Giants as a Free Pick. With their high price, you may need to consider simply using them in a parlay with another play you like but the fact is that the Giants should absolutely dominate in this game! Tim Lincecum is an incredible 14-3 with a 2.48 ERA this season! His numbers from his last six starts fall right under the category of “dominating” as he’s 3-0 with a 1.50 ERA. During this stretch of 42 innings he’s held opponents to a .160 batting average and he’s struck out 57 batters! Even though Colorado has been hot and is making a move in the NL West, that is of no concern to Lincecum. Against the three division leaders – the Cubs, Diamondbacks, and Phillies – the Giants right-hander is 4-0 with a 2.33 ERA in six starts. He welcomes the challenge of facing tougher opposition and Lincecum will get the job done once again tonight.

Another key to this play is that Lincecum has fared well against the Rockies with a 2-1 mark and a 3.30 ERA in five career starts. He absolutely dominated San Diego in his most recent start on Friday night. Lincecum certainly is in stark contrast to what the Rockies Livan Hernandez has been producing on the mound. He’s 1-2 with a 15.32 ERA in his three starts since Colorado picked him up on waivers from Minnesota. He wasn’t getting the job done with the Twins so what were the Rockies thinking anyway? Adding more value to this play and making the pricey Giants worth a look here is that the Rockies Brian Fuentes has gone on the bereavement list. Yes, the Rockies have won each of the first two games in this series and they’ve held the Giants to just two runs in each game. However, that is NOT happening with Hernandez on the mound for the Giants and also note that San Francisco had won five straight and eight of their last ten heading into this series. As noted above, the Rockies have been hot and they have been hitting the ball well but Lincecum easily has some of the most dominating stuff in the majors right now and he gets the job done at home while also getting plenty of run support! Play San Francisco on the money line as your FREE PICK for Wednesday!
