2010 March Madness Tournament Odds to Win – Kansas Favored

The preseason No. 1 team in the country, Kansas, has emerged as the favorite to win this year’s March Madness Basketball Tournament and win the 2010 NCAA Championship.

Oddsmakers from online sports book Sportsbook.com have made Kansas a 2/1 favorite to win the 2010 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament. Other short odds to win are Kentucky (3/1), Syracuse (4/1), and Villanova (10/1).

Kansas is currently ranked No. 1 in both major college basketball polls and also is ranked No. 6 in the RPI. The Jayhawks are 27-1 for the year and 13-0 in Big XII play win wins over ranked opponents like Texas, Kansas State, Temple, and Baylor. It’s lone loss came against Tennessee. Kansas has won three championships in its history, with the last coming in 2008 under current coach Bill Self.

Kentucky is ranked No. 2 in both major polls and No. 1 in the RPI rankings. The Wildcats are 26-1 on the year and 11-1 in the SEC with its lone loss coming against South Carolina. Kentucky holds wins over ranked opponents like Vanderbilt, Tennessee, and Mississippi. Kentucky has won seven NCAA titles, with the last coming in 1998. Head coach John Calipari has not won a championship, but led Memphis to the title game in 2008.

Syracuse is ranked fourth in both major polls and second in the RPI rankings. The Orange are 25-2 on the year and 12-2 in the Big East, with losses to Pittsburgh and Louisville. Syracuse holds wins over West Virginia and Georgetown. Syracuse won its first and only title in 2003 under current coach Jim Boeheim.

Villanova is ranked seventh in the AP Poll and eighth in the USA Today poll while sitting third in the RPI rankings. The Wildcats are 23-4 on the year and 12-3 in the Big East, sitting behind Syracuse in the standings. Villanova has lost two of its last three outings to Pittsburgh and Connecticut while also losing to Georgetown and Temple earlier this year. Villanova holds wins over the Hoyas along with Dayton, Louisville, and West Virginia. Villanova has one title in its current history, which came in 1985. Coach Jay Wright led Villanova to the Final Four last season for the school’s first appearance since the 85’ championship.
