CHAMPAIGN, IL (ATS Consultants) – No. 2 Michigan could take over the top spot in the national rankings if it can knock off Illinois at Assembly Hall tonight at 6:00PM ET.

The Wolverines enter play with an 18-1 overall record and are 5-1 in the Big Ten, while the Illini are 15-5 overall and 2-4 in conference play.

LINE MOVEMENT: Michigan opened as a 6-point favorite and while the line is 6.5 at some books, it's stayed at 6 at most places. As for the total, it opened at 140.5 but has been bet down one full point to 139.5.

NCAA FREE PICK: Take Michigan. According to latest college basketball trends, Michigan is 18-7-1 ATS in their last 26 road games, 27-11-1 ATS in their last 39 vs. Big Ten, 9-4 ATS in their last 13 Sunday games and is 41-20-2 ATS in their last 63 games overall. Illinois is 7-19 ATS in their last 26 vs. Big Ten, 8-22 ATS in their last 30 Sunday games, 0-4 ATS last 4 in series, 1-5 ATS in their last 6 home games, and 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games following a S.U. win.

Michigan has won two straight after falling to Ohio State on Jan. 13, 56-53. They routed Purdue at home on Jan. 24, 68-53, giving 15. Illinois is coming off a 71-51 road win over Nebraska giving 5. Michigan could move to #1 with a win. Trey Burke leads Michigan with 17.8 points per game. Glen Robinson II adds an impressive array of athleticism and power. Illinois needs a big game from guard Brandon Paul, who is second in the Big 10 in scoring with 18ppg. After starting 8-0 at Assembly Hall, the Fighting Illini have dropped their last two home contests - double-digit affairs to Minnesota and Northwestern. Those games were part of a three-game losing streak for Illinois. Under first-year coach John Groce, Illinois is still a work-in progress. They already held a players-only meeting before meeting Nebraska. Expect talent to take over as the Wolverines roll on the road.
