PHILADELPHIA -- Philadelphia 76ers rookie forward Rodney Carney has a torn rotator cuff and labrum in his right shoulder.

Carney, listed as day-to-day, had an MRI exam Thursday that revealed the tear and was then examined by shoulder specialist Dr. Gerry Williams, who reviewed the test and determined the injury will not require surgery

Butler, Jamison to return for Wizards
Thu, Mar 1, 2007
By Associated Press

WASHINGTON -- Caron Butler and Antawn Jamison are expected to return to the lineup Friday for the Washington Wizards, who have struggled without two of their top three stars.

Butler has missed three games - all losses - with back spasms. Jamison has missed 12 with a sprained left knee; the Wizards went 4-8 without him.

If both play Friday against the Atlanta Hawks, the Wizards could have their entire roster healthy for the first time this season.

''They practiced well,'' coach Eddie Jordan said. ''Without anything happening overnight, they should be ready to play.''

Butler has been treated by a chiropractor for his back, which was aggravated by a long bus ride through Minnesota after the team's plane was diverted during the recent road trip.

''A little pain,'' Butler said after practice. ''But overall it is something I can play through.''

Jamison has been itching to play for several days, but the team wanted to make sure his knee was sound.

''If everything is going well, I will stay in there,'' Jamison said. ''But if I get winded, they will take me out. My mentality going into the game is that I am going to be playing the way I am accustomed to.''

With Butler and Jamison out, point guard Gilbert Arenas has remained in a shooting slump while trying to carry more of the scoring load. Arenas was given the day off Thursday.

''It is just a situation where everybody is keying in on him,'' Butler said. ''He is my little brother and I feel bad that I couldn't be out there to help him.

NBA Today - March 2
Fri, Mar 2, 2007
By Associated Press

Orlando at San Antonio (8 p.m. EST). The Spurs are riding a six-game winning streak.

STARS

Thursday

- Rashard Lewis, SuperSonics, scored 31 points as Seattle edged the Los Angeles Clippers 77-75.

- LaMarcus Aldridge, Trail Blazers, scored 30 points to lead Portland past Charlotte 127-90.

- Dirk Nowitzki, Mavericks, scored 10 of his 24 points in the fourth quarter, leading Dallas to a 95-92 victory over Cleveland.

STREAKING

Dallas posted a franchise record-tying 14th straight victory, defeating Cleveland 95-92 on Thursday night. The Mavericks, who won 14 straight at the start of the 2002-03 season, had come close to the mark twice this season, winning 12 in a row and then 13 straight. Dallas has lost only two games since Dec. 11.

STEPPING DOWN

Portland Trail Blazers president and general manager Steve Patterson abruptly resigned Thursday after owner Paul Allen refused to renew his contract. The move came with the Trail Blazers in next-to-last place after they had the worst record in the NBA last season. Tod Leiweke, chief executive officer of the Seattle Seahawks, will take over while a full-time replacement is found.

FINED

The Los Angeles Lakers fined forward Vladimir Radmanovic for violating his contract by snowboarding. Radmanovic is expected to miss two months after suffering a separated shoulder injury when he was in Park City, Utah, during the All-Star break. Radmanovic apologized to coach Phil Jackson and general manager Mitch Kupchak after admitting that he lied to the Lakers last week when he said he fell on a patch of ice while walking.

SPEAKING

''Hey, they didn't play me for four years. Whenever you play your old team, you know what they do and you're motivated.'' - Dallas center DeSagana Diop after scoring a season-high eight points in eight minutes to help the Mavericks defeat Cleveland 95-92 for their 14th straight victory on Thursday night. Diop, a former lottery pick, spent four lackluster seasons in Cleveland before emerging last year in Dallas.
