Milwaukee Bucks struggle to get back from California because of Midwest storm
ASSOCIATED PRESS

MILWAUKEE -- The decision by Milwaukee Bucks officials to delay their flight home from California because of a winter storm in the Midwest left them with more hassles on Tuesday.

After an eight-day, 1-4 road trip that included a 95-93 loss to Sacramento on Monday, the Bucks left California early Tuesday for the four-hour flight back to Wisconsin. They were diverted to Austin Straubel International Airport in Green Bay because of nearly 6 inches of snow and ice in the Milwaukee area.

The Bucks said they would take a bus to Milwaukee, which is normally a two-hour trip, but could take longer on the snowy and slick roads.

The Bucks play Southeast Division leader Orlando on Wednesday night in Milwaukee.

Celtics big man hurt toe when bed fell on it
ASSOCIATED PRESS

WALTHAM, Mass. -- Despite the Boston Celtics' 17-2 record, center Kendrick Perkins failed to get a good night's sleep.

What he did get was a sore toe.

Perkins said part of his bed fell on his right big toe Monday night and he might miss the Celtics' game Wednesday against the Sacramento Kings. It would be the first time Boston has altered its starting five this season.

''Man, that's a weird story,'' Perkins said after practice Tuesday. ''I was asleep. I guess whoever put my bed together didn't put it together right when I moved, so one side of my bed fell. My bed was tilted, so I got out of my bed to go push down on the other side.

''And when I was about getting ready to push down on the other side, the headboard started coming in. So I tried to push the headboard back so it wouldn't fall over. My foot was under the bed and the other side of the bed fell on my foot.''

X-rays were negative, but Perkins was limited to riding a bike and other non-basketball activities Tuesday. He is averaging 7.3 points and 4.8 rebounds per game.

Books have not released a line for Wednesday's game.

Through 19 games, the starting five has been the same: Perkins, Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, Ray Allen and Rajon Rondo.

Backup forward Scot Pollard also missed practice with lower back pain.

''Perk's foot, a big toe injury, and that is a concern,'' Celtics coach Doc Rivers said. ''Right now, I would say there's a very good chance we're going to be without Perk and Scot Pollard'' against the Kings.

Detroit (15-6, 12-9 ATS) at Houston (11-11, 9-13 ATS)

The Pistons play their fifth road game of the month, and their second in as many nights, when they head to Houston to battle the Rockets at the Toyota Center.

Detroit topped the Grizzlies 113-103 last night as a 5½-point road chalk, improving to 4-0 SU and ATS on the road in December. Overall, the Pistons have won seven of their last eight both SU and ATS.

The Rockets head home following a 1-2 road trip that ended with Monday’s 100-88 loss at Philadelphia as a 5½-point chalk. Houston, which has played seven of its last eight contests on the road, is just 5-10 in its last 15 outings (6-9 ATS).

The Pistons are on an 8-2 run against the Rockets (7-3 ATS), with the straight-up winner going 9-1 ATS during this stretch. The home team is 7-2 SU and the favorite is 7-2 ATS in the past nine meetings.

The straight-up winner is 12-0 ATS in Houston’s last 12 games and 14-1 ATS in Detroit’s last 15 (9-0 ATS in the last nine). The winner is also 11-1 ATS in Detroit’s 12 roadies and 7-1 ATS in Houston’s eight home outings.

The Pistons are a perfect 5-0 SU and ATS when playing on back-to-back nights.

Houston has followed up a three-game SU and ATS home losing skid with consecutive wins and covers at the Toyota Center.

The under is 6-2 in the last eight meetings, and the under is 5-0 in the last five series clashes in Houston. Also, the under is on runs of 6-2-1 for the Rockets overall, 7-1 for the Rockets against the Central Division and 7-2 for the Pistons against the Southwest Division.

ATS ADVANTAGE: DETROIT and UNDER

Utah (13-9, 10-11-1 ATS) at Phoenix (16-6, 10-12 ATS)

The Suns try to halt a rare two-game losing skid when they host freefalling Utah in a battle of two of the highest-scoring teams in the NBA.

Phoenix capped a five-game road trip with Saturday’s 100-93 loss to the Timberwolves as a 10½-point favorite, then came home on Monday and fell 117-113 to the Heat as an 11½-point home chalk. The two-game slide comes on the heels of a five-game winning streak.

The Suns are just 3-6 ATS in their last nine contests, including 0-3 ATS at home.

Utah returned from an 0-3 SU and ATS losing skid last night and promptly suffered one of the biggest upset losses in the NBA this season, falling 97-89 to Portland as a 14-point favorite. The Jazz are 0-5 ATS in their last five outings.

The Jazz are 2-6 SU and ATS in their last eight road games, including three straight losses and non-covers. Also, the straight-up winner is 11-1 ATS in Utah’s 12 road games this year, including 9-0 ATS in the last nine.

Utah has won four of the last five meetings against Phoenix and is 4-2 ATS in the last six clashes. The winning team has scored at least 102 points in nine of the last 10 series battles.

The Jazz are on a 6-2 ATS run against the Pacific Division, but they’re 1-5 ATS when playing on back-to-back nights.

Utah has topped the total in seven of eight games overall and 20 of its last 27 on the road. Also, the over is 6-1 in the Suns’ last seven overall and 6-3 in their nine home contests this season.

ATS ADVANTAGE: PHOENIX and OVER

COLLEGE BASKETBALL

Cincinnati (4-4, 0-4-1 ATS) at (17) Xavier (7-1, 4-1 ATS)

Xavier puts its six-game winning streak on the line when it hosts Cincinnati in the annual battle for Queen City bragging rights.

The Musketeers have been idle since blasting Creighton 79-66 as an 11½-point home favorite a week ago today. Xavier has scored at least 78 points in all seven of its wins, all of which have come by double digits, and the Musketeers have cashed in all three of their lined games during their six-game winning streak.

Cincinnati is coming off back-to-back road losses at UAB (73-54) on Dec. 1 and Illinois State (62-52) on Saturday. The Bearcats pushed as a 10-point underdog in Saturday’s contest, snapping an 0-6 ATS slide that dated to last season.

The home team has won each of the last four meetings (2-2 ATS), with the Bearcats prevailing last year 67-57 as a 4½-point home pup. The underdog is 8-0 ATS in this rivalry the last eight years.

Cincinnati is just 5-17-2 ATS in its last 24 overall, including 1-7 ATS in its last seven non-conference contests. However, the Bearcats have cashed in four of their last five against Atlantic-10 foes.

Xavier is mired in a 1-5 ATS slump against Big East teams.

The under is 5-1 in the last six battles in this rivalry. However, the over is 19-7 in Xavier’s last 26 at home.

ATS ADVANTAGE: XAVIER
