Friday's Best NCAAB Bets
By Covers.com

Marquette Golden Eagles at West Virginia Mountaineers (-1.5, N/A)

The Golden Eagles are going to go as far as Jae Crowder and Darius Johnson-Odom take them, which is a very encouraging thought for Marquette supporters.

Crowder and Johnson-Odom are both strong candidates for the conference’s Player of the Year honors and seem to be improving as the games get increasingly more important.

Crowder put up 29 points and added 12 rebounds in last weekend’s win over UConn and then followed that up with 27 points and seven rebounds to help down Rutgers.

The Golden Eagles have won 11 of their last 12 and have covered the number in four straight as they work toward a top seed in the Big East Tournament, and a rest before the postseason begins.

“If you can get the double-bye, the chance of winning the tournament are much higher,” Crowder told reporters. “Last year, we were on the other end of it and had to play right away. We want to change that this year.”

The Mountaineers look like they’ve already checked out. Down two points at the half against Notre Dame, they fell apart in the second session in a 71-44 loss.

Pick: Golden Eagles

Princeton Tigers at Harvard Crimson (-11, N/A)

Harvard coach Tommy Amaker hasn’t had much to worry about this season, but the Princeton Tigers have given the Crimson fits.

Princeton beat Harvard 70-62 earlier this month as a 5-point home favorite. Ian Hummer scored 20 points and grabbed 90 rebounds in the win, which was the fifth time in six games that Tigers supporters have cashed against the Crimson.

“[Princeton] spreads the floor, and Hummer is just a very tough matchup. He’s a guy who can put it on the floor, shoot it from the outside, but also post up,”Amaker told reporters. “I thought they got too much on the interior against us, whether it was back cuts or we failed to call out some screening action. Hopefully we can do a much better job defending the Princeton offense.”

We’re anticipating a close one here.

Pick: Tigers

Friday's Tip Sheet
By Chris David
VegasInsider.com

Eleven games are slated for Friday’s college basketball card, including an intriguing Big East battle between Marquette (23-5 SU, 14-10 ATS) and West Virginia (17-11 SU, 13-12 ATS) from Morgantown.

The Golden Eagles have been on fire lately, winning 11 of their last 12 games. More importantly, Buzz Peterson’s team has covered nine of those games during this stretch. Plus, bettors riding the Marquette-Over parlay have seen that ticket cash seven times in the last 12 as well.

Will the "Marquette Express" win and cover again tonight?

The Eagles haven’t been nearly as dominant in true road games (5-4 SU, 6-3 ATS), but they have won four of their last five away as visitors.

Fortunately, they’ll be playing a West Virginia team that is lacking chemistry and confidence. The Mountaineers have dropped six of eight, including a 27-point (44-71) setback at Notre Dame on Wednesday. Surprisingly, Bob Huggins’ team only trailed by two (28-30) at the break before the implosion on both sides of the court.

During its struggles, WVU has suffered three straight losses at home but they all came by six points or less.

Despite knowing all of the above, oddsmakers at BetOnline.com have opened West Virginia as a 1½-point home favorite over a red-hot squad. Marquette has gone 2-2 SU as an underdog this season, but they’ve covered all four.

It’s uncommon to see teams play on one day rest after conference play begins but that’s the case tonight. Looking at their numbers, Marquette has gone 3-1 both SU and ATS on with one day off while WVU is 2-3 SU and 1-4 ATS. In similar spots during conference play, WVU has gone 0-3 both SU and ATS behind an offense that put up 48, 57 and 66 points.

This will be the first meeting between the pair this season. Marquette beat West Virginia 67-61 in last year’s Big East tournament. Prior to this encounter, the home team won the previous six affairs.

After this game, WVU closes at home against DePaul next Tuesday and then at South Florida on Saturday. Marquette finishes with two more tests, at Cincinnati on Wednesday and at home next Saturday versus Georgetown.

Bettors can follow this contest on ESPN at 9:00 p.m. ET.

On the Horizon

Butler (18-12 SU, 9-16 ATS) won’t be winning the Horizon League regular season title this year but the school is starting to come together at the right time. The Bulldogs have won five straight games and they’ve covered four of them. Keeping the streak intact tonight won’t be easy with a road battle against conference leader, Valparaiso (20-10 SU, 12-13 ATS). The Crusaders have earned the bye to next week’s semifinals and if they win out, they’ll host the Horizon League championship. Earlier this season on Dec. 3, Valparaiso beat Butler 77-71 as a 5½-point road underdog in overtime. It was the second straight win for the Crusaders over the Bulldogs and both of them came in overtime too. Both of those games went ‘over’ the number. The total for this matchup opened at 122½. Valparaiso is a short favorite (-1.5). ESPNU will provide coverage of this game at 7:00 p.m. ET.

Ivy League Numbers

Columbia at Yale: Yale has won and covered six straight in this series. Yale has gone 9-1 at home this season. Columbia opened as a five-point ‘dog.

Cornell at Brown: Cornell has won 11 in a row over Brown, covering eight of those games. Make a note that Cornell has gone 1-12 on the road. The Big Red are giving four points on the road.

Penn at Dartmouth: Penn has captured the last five meetings (3-2 ATS) against Dartmouth, including a 58-52 home win this season on Feb. 11. The Big Green (5-21) hasn’t won back-to-back games all season and they just beat Brown (58-53) last Saturday. Penn can be backed as a 5½-point road favorite.

Princeton at Harvard: The Crimson can wrap up the Ivy League title this weekend with two wins and some help. Bettors have a revenge game here with Harvard losing 70-62 at Princeton on Feb. 11. Harvard has gone 4-0 SU and 2-2 ATS at home in conference play, winning three of four by double digits. The ‘under’ has gone 3-1 in those tilts. Harvard opened as an 11½-point favorite.

No. 10 Marquette Golden Eagles vs. West Virginia Mountaineers

Marquette is 22-5 SU on the year and 11-3 SU in Big East play. The Golden Eagles are 9-1 SU in their last 10 games and have covered in seven of their last nine. They are 13-10-1 ATS overall and 9-4 ATS on the road. The total has gone 'over' in seven of their last nine games overall and in nine of the 13 games on the road. West Virginia is 17-10 SU and 13-11 ATS. It is just 2-5 both SU and ATS in its last seven games and the total has gone 'over' in seven of its last 10 games. The Mountaineers face No.25 Notre Dame this Wednesday night on the road before returning home for Friday night's game.

Horizon League Betting News and Game Previews
By Rob Veno
Sportsmemo.com

Butler @ Valparaiso - On Tuesday, Valparaiso clinched its first regular-season Horizon League title and the No. 1 seeding for the tournament with a victory over Loyola so there’s nothing at stake for them here. It won’t even be there final home game because they’ll host the tournament semifinals. If Butler wins this game and Cleveland State defeats Detroit tonight then it’s a done deal, the Bulldogs will be the No. 2 seed either outright or by virtue of winning the tie-breaker between them and Cleveland State. However, if Detroit wins out and finishes in a tie with Butler, they would become the No. 2 seed with Butler sliding to the No. 3 slot. Opinion: Butler (Line figures to open around Valparaiso -1). Butler is playing head and shoulders above where they’ve been for most of the season while the Crusaders are in a semi-funk going 1-3 SU and 0-4 ATS in their L4G. HC Brad Stevens was quoted as saying “We’re not done yet” after their rout of UIC Tuesday night and the way their defense has played since the second half of the Cleveland State game February 11th, I believe him.
