Baylor Bears at Kansas State Wildcats (-2)

Kansas State had no trouble disposing of unbeaten Missouri 75-59 on Saturday. Now, the No. 18 Wildcats will try to take down yet another unbeaten when No. 4 Baylor visits.

The Bears, who are coming off a 73-60 victory over Texas Tech, are off to the best start in school history. Baylor has won 12 of its games by double figures, but has also had a knack for pulling out the close ones, winning three games by three or less.

It is always somebody different for Baylor, which shook off a sluggish start to defeat the Red Raiders. This time it was Pierre Jackson, who had a team-high 19 points - including eight in a five-minute stretch to open the second half - as the Bears extended their winning streak to a school-record 15 games. Baylor is one of only three Big 12 teams to open conference play 2-0 along with Iowa State and Kansas.

The Bears' depth will keep them in this tough road game until the end.

Pick: Bears

Ohio State Buckeyes at Illinois Fighting Illini (9.5)

The Fighting Illini have opened their conference schedule with some bottom-tier teams but have a chance to make a statement not only in the Big Ten but also for the NCAA Tournament selection committee in March.

But if the Illini are going to shock the Buckeyes they’ll need 7-footer Meyers Leonard to stay out of foul trouble against one of the nation’s premier big men. Jared Sullinger is finally starting to get healthy after dealing with a nagging back injury. He scored 28 points to lift Ohio State past Iowa this weekend. Sullinger was right at home in Illinois last season, scoring 27 points and grabbing 16 rebounds in a 73-68 victory for the Buckeyes.

The Buckeyes live and die through Sullinger. Their two losses came to Kansas, when Sullinger was out with back spasms, and to Indiana, when he played limited minutes because of foul trouble. With the bruising forward under the basket, Ohio State packs the opponent's defense in the key, freeing up perimeter shooters.

Even if Leonard can hang with Sullinger down low, the Illini are banged up in the backcourt with Sam Maniscalco and D.J. Richardson ailing. Those injuries could be the difference.

Pick: Buckeyes

No. 4 Baylor Bears vs. No. 23 Kansas State Wildcats

Baylor moved to a perfect 15-0 SU with Saturday’s 73-60 victory over Texas Tech as a 14-point road favorite, but it has failed to cover in its last four games to fall to 4-4 ATS. The Bears are shooting 48.4 percent from the field and averaging 76.2 points a game.

Kansas State bounced back from last week’s 67-49 loss to then-No. 15 Kansas as a 10-point road underdog with a solid 75-59 pasting of No. 6 Missouri this past Saturday as a one-point home underdog. The Wildcats should once again open as slight underdogs but they have beaten the Bears three straight times both SU and ATS.

Seton Hall - DePaul Preview
By Fairway Jay
SportsMemo.com

Big East play in action tonight with Seton Hall (-12) playing host to DePaul. The Pirates (14-2, 3-1 Big East) are a perfect 9-0 at home with an average margin of victory of nearly 14 points. Seton Hall cracked the AP top-25 poll on January 10th for the first time since 2001. DePaul (10-5, 1-2) is still rebuilding but are much improved after just seven wins last season. Still, the Blue Demons have not won more than ONE Big East conference game since 2007-08 and are 4-57 vs. conference opponents since the start of the 2008 season; including tournament games.

Both teams are making their betting backers money, as Seton Hall is 9-3 ATS and DePaul is 7-4 ATS. Seton Hall head coach Kevin Willard has the Pirates exceeding expectations in his second year in New Jersey after going 13-18 last season. Seton Hall was projected to finish near the bottom of the Big East again. DePaul has been a disaster for a number of seasons, but second-year head coach Oliver Purnell is also changing the culture and style after past rebuilding project successes and four consecutive 20-win seasons at Clemson. The Blue Demons’ high-tempo offense (5th in adjusted tempo nationally) and pressing defense could result in a high-scoring game against Seton Hall, who plays at a below average pace but will face their first high-tempo team this season. In road or neutral games this season, DePaul has allowed 87 points on three occasions and 86 points in another game; all losses. If an average number of shots are falling, this game should sail over 150 points.
