Auburn Tigers at Alabama Crimson Tide (-13.5, 117)
The hot Crimson Tide can take another step toward securing an NCAA bid if they can knock off rival Auburn for the second time this season, and earn their 20th win in the process.
Alabama has weathered the storm that came with the suspension of the team’s two best players and has won three straight games.
JaMychal Green was back in the lineup for Saturday's 67-50 rout over Mississippi State after being suspended for four games. Green, who averages team highs of 13.9 points and 7.0 rebounds, came off the bench and scored nine points in 25 minutes.
Freshman Levi Randolph tripled his scoring average with a career-high 18 points and seven boards versus the Bulldogs. Trevor Lacey’s status remains up in the air; he started the Mississippi State game but played only 11 minutes because a badly sprained ankle.
Either way, Tide should roll here – especially if Auburn suspended guards Varez Ward and Chris Denson are held out again.

Iowa State Cyclones at Missouri Tigers (-10, 146)
No. 8 Missouri, coming off a pair of tough losses, hosts surging Iowa State in what has become a battle for second place in the Big 12. The Tigers squandered a 19-point second half lead at No. 4 Kansas last weekend and lost 87-86 in overtime.
Iowa State, tied with Baylor for third place, has won three in a row and six of eight. The Cyclones are coming off an impressive win at Kansas State and have pulled within a game of the Missouri in the standings.
Royce White continues to be a dominant force, being the only player in Division I to lead his team in scoring (12.8), rebounding (9.2), assists (5.1), steals (1.2) and blocked shots (1.0). Scott Christopherson has also had the hot hand over the last three games, averaging 23.7 points and shooting 74 percent (14-19) from 3-point range.
Meanwhile, the Tigers lost their first home game last week to Kansas State and have dropped two in a row for the first time.

No. 8 Marquette Golden Eagles vs. Cincinnati Bearcats (ESPN2)
Marquette is 13-3 SU in Big East play and 24-5 SU overall. It is 15-10-1 ATS this season and the total has gone ‘over’ in 16 of the 26 games. The Golden Eagles are 10-4-1 ATS on the road and the total has gone ‘over’ in nine of the 15 games.
Cincinnati’s 46-45 loss to South Florida as a two-point road underdog on Sunday dropped it to 20-9 SU on the year, but raised its record ATS to 11-12. The Bearcats are 13-4 SU at home, but just 3-9 ATS. The total has stayed ‘under’ in eight of the 12 games. They were hammered by Marquette 95-78 as six-point road underdogs the first time they played this season.

Last five Louisville games were all decided by 4 or less points or in OT; Cardinals are struggling to score points, getting 57 or less points in three of last four games, but they've covered four of last five games as a home favorite. South Florida covered five of last six games, with average total in last five, 103.0, so they play tense,low-scoring games. Big East home favorites of 8 or less points are 22-30 against the spread this year. USF covered its last three games as a road underdog.
Marquette won/covered last five games, winning last game by point at West Virginia when four players missed a half due to suspension, with three guys sitting first half, other sitting out second. Cincinnati (+7) lost 95-78 at Marquette Feb 11; Eagles shot 56.7% for night, were +7 (14-7) in turnovers. Bearcats lost at South Florida Sunday by a point, their third straight game decided by 5 or less points; with a low RPI, they're squarely on bubble and need win like this one.
Akron is 6-1 as MAC home favorite, with only non-cover 14-point win over Toledo when laying 14.5; Zips (+2.5) lost 82-70 at Buffalo Jan 18, when Filzen made 5-12 from arc and Watt blocked five shots. Buffalo is 1-5 vs spread last six games, losing three of last four SU, with losses by 5-11-21 points; they're 1-2 as a MAC underdog. Zips had its 9-game MAC winning streak snapped in 85-61 loss at Ohio Sunday nite. MAC home favorites of 7 or less points are 13-9 against the spread.
Favorites are 7-0 vs spread in St Bonaventure's conference home games, with Bonnies 6-0 as Atlantic 14 home favorite, winning home games by 10-8-44-15-21-20points, with only home loss to Temple. St Joe's is 3-4 as conference underdog, 2-3 on road, losing away games by 9-13-18, but they've won last three road games. Hawks won four of last five overall, upsetting city rival Temple in last game. Atlantic 14 home favorites of 5 or less points are 17-9 against the spread.
Temple had its 11-game winning streak snapped by St Joe's in last game; Owls are 4-3 as Atlantic 14 home favorite, winning home games by 6-7-18-18-13-19 points, with loss to Dayton. UMass lost three of last four games, getting crushed 76-43 at Dayton last game; Minutemen are 2-4 as A-14 underdog, losing away games by 7-11-3-11-33 points. Atlantic 14 double digit home favorites are 9-7-1 against the spread. Temple needs to win last two games to clinch #1 seed in conference tournament.
Senior Day for Missouri team with five seniors among seven guys in its rotation; Tigers are 6-1 as Big X home favorite, winning home games by 38-11-19-13-3-15-18 points, but they lost last home game to K-State. Missouri (-4) shot 66.7% inside arc, won 76-69 at Iowa State Jan 11, in game where Cyclones made 12-23 from arc but only 13-25 from charity stripe. Big X double digit home favorites are 10-13 against the spread. Iowa State is 7-3 as Big X underdog, 5-2 on the road.
Northwestern (+16.5) got waxed 87-54 at Ohio State Dec 28 in league opener, as Buckeyes were +20 on boards, 10-20 behind arc. Wildcats are 4-3 as Big Dozen underdog, but four of their last six losses were by 10+ points. Ohio State is 2-3 in last five games after losing to Wisconsin at home; they're 0-4 vs spread in last four home games. Big Dozen home underdogs of 7 or less points are 17-7-1 against the spread. Wildcats have never been to NCAA tournament; this win would put them in.
NC State (+2.5) was 6-10 from arc, Miami 2-20 in Wolfpack's Jan 22 78-73 win at Miami, but Hurricane center Johnson is out due to NCAA-related issues, and Canes are 2-3 in last five games, 3-0-1 as road dog in ACC games, losing away games by 1-17-5-5 points (3-4 SU). NC State lost its last four games, losing last game in OT at Clemson; they're 0-7 vs spread at home in conference games. ACC home favorites of 6 or less points are 5-11 against the spread this sesason.
Colorado State is 6-0 at home in conference play, 0-6 on road; Rams got beat 82-61 at UNLV Feb 1 (+18), as Rebels' bench outscored State's by 18-3 margin. UNLV is 0-6 vs spread on Mountain West road, 0-5 as a road favorite- their only two conference road wins came in OT, by 5 at Boise, 2 at Air Force. MWC home underdogs are 10-6 againt the spread this season. Home team is 9-2-1 vs spread in State's MWC games, with Rams 3-3-1 as an underdog, 2-0 at home.
Boise State (+13) led most of way (33-25 at half) before losing 58-56 at Viejas Feb 1; Aztecs shot just 31% for game, but outscored Boise 25-7 on foul line (Broncos were 7-16). San Diego State is 2-5-1 vs spread in last eight games, losing last three road games, last two by a hoop each. MWC home teams are 4-9 against the spread when the number is 3 or less points. Boise is 2-4 in conference home games, but they won last two at home, with both wins by a single point.
WCC tournament
Santa Clara went 0-16 in WCC, primarily because their best player got tossed off team after a DUI; Broncos (-3) lost 84-74 at Portland is WCC opener Jan 5, then lost 83-78 at home to Pilots Feb 2. Portland is 1-6 in this round of CAA tournament since 2003, with last five losses in this round by 5 or less points; unfortunately, their second win over Broncos was last game they've won, dropping last six games. Santa Clara won at least one game in WCC tourney in seven of last eight years.
Ohio Valley tournament
Eastern Kentucky won its only meeting with SE Missouri this season, beating Redhawks 63-59 (-6) Jan 7. EKU lost its first OVC tournament game last four years, by 25-19-7-16 points. SE Missouri State is 1-3 in this event the last six years; they're much improved this year, going 9-7 in OVC after being 9-45 last three seasons, but they lost last four games, all by 9+ points. EKU lost six of its last seven road games- they're 4-1 vs spread in last five games as an underdog.
Jacksonville State (+9) lost 60-57 at Austin Peay Jan 14, in only game with the Governors this season; Gamecocks made OVC tourney for just second time in last six years; they lost 87-54 in last appearance, couple years ago. This is worst team Austin Peay had in 10+ years, but they've bounced back late, winning last three games, by 3-18-9 points. They're 7-2 in this round of OVC tourney last nine years. OVC home teams are 9-11-2 vs spread when number is 3 or less points.

Missouri, squandering a 19-point second half lead at Kansas last weekend falling 87-86 in overtime try to snap a two game losing streak when they host surging Iowa State. Not that you don't have enough reason to back Missouri as Tigers do not slip often at home posting a 32-2 (14-8-2 ATS) mark the past thirty-four at MIZZOU Arena and come into the contest sporting a perfect 8-0 (5-3 ATS) run vs Iowa State. However, must keep in mind Cyclones coming off a 65-61 win at Kansas State marking three consecutive victories covering the number in each case have been solid bets within the conference going 13-3 ATS including 7-1 ATS on the highway. Cyclones are also on a profitable 6-1-1 ATS road stretch running the hardwood against a team with a winning home record, 5-2 ATS last seven at Missouri

Atlantic Sun Tournament Gambling Preview

Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament - University Center, Macon, GA (Host: Mercer)
Favorite - #1 Belmont
Veteran head coach Rick Byrd (26th season) has by far the deepest and most talented team in the league. Belmont currently ranks second in the nation in points per game at 82.1 and their unselfish style has resulted in six players scoring between 9 and 14 points per game. The offense is extremely diverse executing up-tempo and half court styles with interior, perimeter and off the dribble scoring options. The Bruins depth was on full display this past Saturday as they sat starting junior PG Kerron Johnson (14 ppg) and sophomore SF Blake Jenkins due to minor injuries and still pulled out a 62-61 win right here against tournament #2 seed Mercer. At 22-7 with a 59 RPI and only one Top 50 RPI win (at Middle Tennessee State), it’s imperative for Belmont to win this tournament to gain a return trip to the NCAA Tournament. With their experience (seven upperclassmen in the nine man rotation), diversity (can effectively play two PG’s at the same time) and motivation, they should be the clear cut favorite.
Second Choice - #2 Mercer
Having the home floor certainly helps and despite just losing here to shorthanded Belmont four days ago, they can draw from the fact that they had a chance to win at the buzzer and only lost by four (82-78) at Belmont earlier this season. They are a more moderate tempo, defensive minded team than Belmont (66.5 possessions per game, allow 39.1% FG shooting) but they go just as deep with nine players averaging at least 11 minutes of playing time. They are a less experienced group with only four upperclassmen in the rotation but they are very well balanced from a perimeter/interior standpoint. The three teams they will or could face in the lower half of their bracket didn’t cause the much trouble as they won by 9, 14 and 22 points so their path to the final appears clean but they do enter on a bit of a skid losing three of their last four.
Other Contenders - #3 South Carolina Upstate
With the Atlantic Sun Player of the Year sophomore Torrey Craig (also was last season’s Freshman of the Year), Freshman of the Year Ty Greene and HC of the Year Eddie Payne, SC Upstate has some ingredients to make noise in this tournament. SF Craig leads the team in scoring 17.1 ppg, three pointers made with 78 and rebounding 7.9 rpg. Combo guard Greene is second in scoring with 11.2 ppg and is a tremendous shooter nailing 40.8% from three point range. The Spartans are very dependent upon their top three scorers (6’8” 246 lb freshman PF Riccardo Glenn 9.8 ppg ranks third) so the road venue and tournament format may not be coducive to going all the way. Still, this up-tempo squad (70 possessions per game) comes in red hot going 10-2 in their last 12 games and one of only two A-Sun teams to have defeated Belmont.
Wednesday’s Outlook
Jacksonville vs. Belmont (11:30 PT, ESPN 3) – I actually saw this contest courtside at Belmont a month ago and the 85-71 final was mostly achieved in the final six minutes. The Dolphins pushed the pace from the outset and their half-court sets featured a lot of 4-high with some backdoors and some pick and roll. The Dolphins half court gave Belmont’s man-to-man extreme trouble for most of the game until the defense finally made some key stops. Offensively, the Bruins ran fast break whenever available and when it wasn’t there they pounded the ball inside relentlessly against the much smaller Jacksonville team. That continual paint production forced JU to sag down and then in the second half, Belmont’s arsenal of shooters along with blow-by PG Johnson took over. Jacksonville head coach Cliff Warren coached the heck out of his team and I’d expect a valiant effort here but again to no avail as Belmont is the far better all-around team. Power ratings show Belmont -19.5.
Lipscomb @ Mercer (5:30 PT, ESPN 3) – It took 56.7% second half shooting and 51.8% overall for Lipscomb to get by Kennesaw State 74-71 last Saturday. That’s significant because the strong shooting performance was needed to defeat lowly Kennesaw (0-18 in conference play this season) by three and gain only the second win for Lipscomb since dismissing senior Jordan Burgason who was the nation’s leading 3 point shooter at 52.4%. Losing their centerpiece (led the team in minutes played along with every shooting and scoring category) back on February 11th led to a 2-4 record and this would seem to be a tough task. On the bright side, the Bisons did show well in this arena last Thursday night losing only by 9, 63-54 but they shot just 33% and are a combined 44-123 35.8% versus Mercer this season. On the other hand, the host Bears went 41-80 51.3% on their two point field goals in the pair of games which featured entirely different tempos. Expect Mercer to dictate the much more controlled pace they used on this floor last week and their incredibly stingy three point defense (29.2% allowed in A-Sun play) as strong fundamental advantages. Home court figures to help too. If the price is right, could be a play on Mercer.
