Wednesday - New Mexico State at Baylor (FSN)
New Mexico State was the preseason favorite in the WAC, and they come into this game with just a 7-5 SU record while struggling to replace four key contributors from last season’s team. The Aggies feature a tall lineup, so they match-up well with Baylor. The Bears are 8-2 SU on the season with their last being an 80-61 blowout loss at Texas A&M. Baylor’s best win of the season so far came over Vanderbilt; an explosive offense they held to just 67 points.
Saturday - Louisville at Kentucky (CBS)
Kentucky has dominated this series recently. The Wildcats are 7-1 SU the last eight meetings, including winning the last three games. However, the games have been extremely close with seven of the eight games resulting in a single-digit margin. Louisville’s lone loss this season came by just 4 points to Michigan State while Kentucky owns a pair of losses to UCLA and Ohio State.
Sunday - Marshall at Maryland (BTN)
Maryland comes into this game ranked #4 in the country with an 8-1 SU record. Their lone loss came at North Carolina, so there’s no shame in that defeat. Maryland should have little trouble handling a Marshall team that is just 4-7 SU on the season. The Thundering Herd are 4-1 over their last five games, but don’t be fooled as those wins have come against some bad teams like Eastern Illinois, Eastern Kentucky, and North Carolina Central.
Monday - Pennsylvania at Villanova (FS1)
Throw the records out for this game. The Philadelphia area Big 5 games are always important to theses teams, and they are usually highly competitive. Villanova has romped in the last two meetings, winning by 23 and 15 points. However, the Wildcats come into this game as losers of two of their last three games. Penn is in their first year under head coach Steve Donahue, and while they are just 5-5 SU on the season, they’ve played improved basketball.
Tuesday - SMU at Tulsa (ESPN2)
SMU should still be undefeated coming into this game; they were 9-0 SU going into a game against Kent State last Tuesday night. The Mustangs got head coach Larry Brown back from suspension, and he’s definitely a favorite of the players. Tulsa is a very good team as well, so they are a formidable opponent for SMU. This should be an excellent game to watch next Tuesday night.
