One game in the books both both Orlando and Antonio, as both teams made successful debuts last weekend.

Orlando racked up the most points of any of the 8 teams in last week's 40-6 home win over Atlanta, while San Antonio was able to defeat San Diego, 15-6 on their home field.

No question Steve Spurrier who coaches the Apollos is the most aggressive and offensive-minded coach in this 8 team league, so laying the points here is an easy call, especially since the Commanders could only muster 15 points at the Alamodome last weekend.

Garrett Gilbert is the quarterback of Orlando, and he sure looks like he has benefited from The Head Ball Coach's wisdom from playing that position back in the day. Gilbert passed for over 200 yards and 2 touchdown passes, and the team even ran their version of the Eagles' "Philly Special" in last week's eruption.

The Apollos will be challenged against this Commanders stingy defense, but since San Antone struggled to finish their drives last week, my feeling is eventually the Orlando offense will outscore San Antonio in this second game of the season.

Go ahead and lay the road wood with the explosive Apollos here on Sunday.

1* ORLANDO

The little "pity party" the Spartans threw for themselves when they realized Joshua Langford's ankle injury was serious enough that he would have to sit out the remainder of the season saw Sparty lose 3 games in a row, but truth be told, Michigan State had been playing without Langford for a while and were doing just fine.

The Spartans have their train back on the rails now after those 3 losses, as they have bounced-back to win and cover their last pair, including a quality win at Wisconsin by 8 their last time out.

As for Ohio State, they saw their little 3 game winning streak come to an ugly halt their last time out, as they were limited to a measly 56 points in their home loss to Illinois earlier this week. They enter this game on an overall spread slide of just 3-9 their last 12 played.

The Buckeyes simply do not have an offense that can score on a consistent basis, and that is going to spell big trouble today in East Lansing.

The Buckeyes average 71.8 points per game for the year, but they have been held to 62 points or less in 6 of their last 10 games. Compare that to the Spartans who average 81.3 points per game for the year, and also average 39 rebounds compared to Ohio State's 32.2 rebounds per game, and you can easily see how this game can quickly escalate into a rout in favor of the home team.

Michigan State did win the first meeting between the teams, 86-77 in Columbus in early January, as the favorite in the rivalry moved to 8-1 against the spread the last 9 meetings.

Big line, but based on the Bucks inconsistent scoring, this one turns into a runaway.

Play Sparty.

4* MICHIGAN STATE

Sunday free play is Houston to record a rather lopsided win at Tulane.

This will be the first meeting of the season between the teams, and the last time these teams faced one another, the result was a 73-42 Cougars white-washing last February at Houston!

The Cougars are currently on a 9 game winning streak that has seen them go 7-2 against the spread. For the year, Kelvin Sampson's team is ranked in the Top-10, and owns a 24-1 straight up season mark. Against the spread, the Cougars are a profitable 16-8-1 mark, including covering 6 of their 8 lined road games.

The Green Wave are limping to the finish line, as Tulane comes into this home game riding a 13 game losing streak straight up, failing their last pair against the spread, and 4 of their last 7 overall.

Taking a look at some of the key numbers also reveals that this one should only be close at the opening jump, as Houston scores 75 points per game compared to Tulane's 66-plus points scored. The Cougars only allow 60.8 to be scored against them, while the Green Wave is allowing 75.6 points per outing! The Cougars also outrebound the Wave by over 5 boards per contest.

The Top-10 ranking for Houston is the first time they have been ranked that high since all the way back in the 1983-84 season!

The bottom line is this is a very special Houston team that Kelvin Sampson has this year, and even though this is a mountain of a number to climb here on Sunday in New Orleans, I say go ahead a lay it, as this one could very well end up 76-54 in favor of Houston.

2* HOUSTON

Scott "The Bulldog" Rickenbach NHL Game #25 Sunday Free Pick New York Rangers Puck Line (+1.5 goals) @ Pittsburgh Penguins @ 12:35 ET - The Penguins will be hungry off a loss but they are in a tough back to back spot here. Matt Murray struggled between the pipes yesterday and Casey DeSmith even got called into action as a result. No matter whom starts for Pittsburgh Sunday it is hard to be comfortable with either one as Murray would be in back to back starts and struggled yesterday while DeSmith has struggled in recent starts. At the opposite end of the spectrum the Rangers are NOT in a back to back here and they are starting a HOT goalie as Alexandar Georgiev continues to thrive in recent starts. He is slated to get the start here and, though I do expect the Rangers to get the outright upset here I am more comfortable laying the very reasonable price (-135) to have New York on the puck line at +1.5 goals. The Pens, as noted above, will be hungry off a home loss and could find a way here but, if they do, look for the win to be just a single goal. The Rangers are 7-5 in their last 12 games and 4 of the losses came by a single goal. In other words, if you had the Rangers +1.5 goals in all 12 games you went 11-1. The Penguins are just 5-9 in their last 14 games and one of those wins came by a single goal. So if you've played Pittsburgh at -1.5 goals in their last 14 games your record is 4-10. Free Pick NEW YORK RANGERS Puck Line +1.5 goals

UNDER 6

I’m playing on the under Flyers/Wings (FREE PLAY). I think goals will be hard to come by in this one. This is the second game of a home and home set between the clubs and while the first one resulted in a wild 6-5 OT win for Philadelphia, I think the writing is on the wall and much more defensive affair is in store this evening. Philly is still only 12-16 on the road, averaging 2.89 goals and conceding 3.57. Thankfully it faces the Wings today, who are just 12-17 at home, averaging 2.83 goals and allowing 2.90 in those contests. Philadelphia has seen the total dip under in 16 of its last 25 vs. teams with losing records, while Detroit has seen the total go under in 15 of its last 21 in the same position. This number is high, consider the “under” in this one.

Colorado-4 -105

My 1* Free Play is on Colorado (8:00 EST).

These two teams are moving in opposite directions and I believe those trends continue here.

Arizona got off to a 4-0 Pac-12 start, including a 64-56 win over Colorado on Jan 3. However, Wildcats are 1-7 since (0-6 SU & ATS since beating Ore St on Jan 19). It's Arizona's longest losing streak in 35 years. Meanwhile, Colorado has won four straight, the school's longest winning streak in conference play since 2005-06, when they were members of the Big 1. Colorado is 9-2 SU at home, outscoring opponents 82.7-69.3 PPG.

This one has “blowout” written all over it. Consider the hot home side in the revenge situation.

Good luck…Larry

KYLE ANTHONY

Event: (24133) A. Evans-Smith at (24134) A. Lee (W)
Sport/League: MMA
Date/Time: February 17, 2019 7PM EST
Play: A. Evans-Smith +165

In preliminary card action, Andrea "KGB" Lee faces Ashlee Evans-smith in a Flyweight match. The hype behind Lee coming from LFA and Invicta was quite high. Most recently made her debut in the UFC facing Veronica Macedo, where Lee won by easy decision. KGB's style is pressure, push forward working combinations to create opportunities. Strong body and leg kicks in her arsenal, forcing opponents to make mistakes. On the other side, there's Ashlee Evans-smith who has extensive UFC experience in her young career. After going 3-0 in other organizations, she was thrown into the UFC fire going 3-3 in her UFC cage appearances. Over her last 3 fights, I was really impressed with her continued elevation. 3 fights ago she lost a highly competitive decision against Ketlen Vieira, who I believe Vieira is the next big thing in the division. Evans-Smith fought 3 tough rounds with her showing skill, heart and determination. Then she faced Sarah Moras a jiu jitsu specialist, where Evans-smith had early success finding herself in side control, made one mistake and Moras found an opening to submit her via armbar finish in round 1. In Ashlee's up coming fight against Andrea Lee, she won't need to worry about a ground specialist, she can focus on her stand up and level changing attempts. Next, in Evans-smith most recent fight she faced the brawling Bec Rawlings, and showed massive striking improvements finding herself comfortable in toe to toe exchanges with flowing combinations. It was a lopsided victory for Ashlee winning a unanimous decision.
I believe this fight fits well into Evans-smith style and strategy. She's long and rangy with a lot more experience at the highest level of competition. Lee's opponents have all been completely inferior to her skill set. In her only UFC fight she faced an even less experienced fighter in Veronica Macedo who's 22 years old, and Lee had a 6 inch reach advantage on her. Evans-Smith also faced Veronica Macedo, and was able to finish the fight via 3rd round TKO (elbows).
Overall, the biggest factors is Evans-smith's accolades is she's a four-time collegiate All-American wrestler. Add in the fact she moved down in weight and looks great. Now as the bigger fighter, her wrestling and power seems to tie together nicely, and furthermore the price tag is fantastic on Evans-Smith (+166). This should probably be more near -110 on both sides, a very close fight. But, getting solid plus odds on a more experienced fighter who's big for the division, improved stiking and can use her size to grapple is where I like having money on. Evans-Smith has true value as a live underdog.

Ashlee Evans-Smith (+166)

1* Free NCAAB Pick on Colorado Buffaloes -4.5

I got no problem laying the small number with Colorado at home against the Wildcats. I just think the books continue to give this Arizona team way too much respect and a lot of that likely has to do with their name and the elite status of their program.

The Wildcats come in having lost and failed to cover in each of their last 6 games, yet they are right around a pick'em on the road against a red-hot Colorado team that has won 4 straight, beating Oregon at home, winning back-to-back at UCLA and at USC and then most recently knocking of ASU at home. Not to mention the CU Events Center is no easy place to win due to the thin air of Colorado. Arizona is also playing on just 2 days rest after playing at Utah on Thursday.

Wildcats are 0-4 ATS last 4 road games vs a team with a winning home record and are 1-7 ATS this season when listed as an underdog. Buffaloes are 12-4 ATS last 16 at home vs a team with a losing road record. Take Colorado!

BRANDON LEE
NCAA-B | Feb 17, 2019
Villanova vs. St. John's

10* FREE NCAAB PICK (Villanova -4)

I'll take my chances here with Villanova as a small road favorite against the Red Storm. I'm not sure why people aren't giving this Wildcats team more love than they are. Sure this might not be as talented as Villanova team as previous years, but they are clearly the best team in the Big East. Villanova is 11-1 in conference play, but the even more impressive stat is their 9-3 ATS record.

I get that St John's is a good team and winning on the road is not easy in conference play, especially in the Power 5 leagues. However, Villanova is 8-3 away from home with a 9-2 ATS record. I'm not saying it's a lock they win here, I just don't know how you bet on them to lose, which is basically what you are doing taking St John's at +4.

Villanova has gone 37-16 ATS last 53 vs a team that's won more than 60% of their games, so the better the competition the better bet they become. That includes an 8-2 ATS record this season. Give me the Wildcats -4!
