Miami finishes up 6 straight away from home tonight in Philadelphia, and the Heat come into this game with a 2-3 straight up mark so far, but a 3-2 against the spread mark - all in the underdog role.

Can they cover tonight in Philadelphia?

I am going to play against the cover, even with the near double-digits, as I have a feeling that based on the recent meetings between the teams, the Sixers like their matchups in this Eastern rivalry.

Philadelphia went to the All-Star Break with wins and covers in 3 of their last 4, and the added week off gives Brett Brown a little more time to incorporate new addition Tobias Harris into this talented mix. True, Philly will have to start their stretch run with Joel Embiid once again sidelined - knee inflammation! - but I am confident the addition of Harris will swing that balance for the time being.

The Sixers are 23-7 straight up at home, and they are 7-1 against the spread for the year when favored by -7 to -9 1/2 points.

Miami comes in with a 3-3 spread mark as a dog of +7 to +9 1/2 points for the year, and in this series they were a 114-124 loser at home in the teams first meeting since last April's playoff series. The 76ers took that playoff series in 5 games, covering in each of their 4 playoff wins.

Philadelphia has also covered in 5 of the last 7 series meetings against Miami when playing on their home hardwood.

With Miami just 2-6 straight up their closing 8 games prior to the break, I will side with Philadelphia to come out strong here tonight and make a statement with a double-digit win and cover.

Lay it with the Sixers.

1* PHILADELPHIA

First game back from the long All-Star Break, and everybody's engines should be more than ready to rev tonight when two of the powerhouses in the Eastern Conference meet up at the Fieserv Forum.

Boston entered the break minus one Kyrie Irving and one Terry Rozier, but still went to the break with Overs played in 4 of their final 6 games. That 4-2 Over run puts them at 34-24 Over the total for the season, and even though the Bucks went to their break having held Under in their last 3, and 4 of their final 6, I see this Celtics-Bucks game landing Over the total.

Series numbers when these teams meet - both regular season, and postseason - show a definite Over trend, as both regular season meetings this year have landed Over the posted price, and the Over is 8-2 now the last 10 times the teams have played. Overall, the Over between the teams is 16-5-1 the last 22 series meetings!

The C's come in toting a 113 points per game average, while they allow 106.6 points per game against.

The Bucks come into this one with a 116.9 points per game average, while allowing 107-1 points per game to be posted on them.

Have to believe those averages will be met and then some with both teams having been idle since the 13th. Oh sure, they may start their engines a little slow since its been over a week since either saw live game action, but things will get cranking on Thursday night and the Celtics and Bucks will play Over the total.

2* BOSTON-MILWAUKEE OVER

Thursday freebie on the ice on the Hurricanes.

The 'Canes posted a whopping 44 shots on net their last time out, but Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist returned to his "King" form, as New York held off the previously sizzling Hurricanes for the 2-1 win on Carolina ice.

I am going to look for Carolina to resume their push for a postseason spot with the road win tonight against the Florida Panthers. Carolina owns 68 points which is currently just one point behind Columbus for the last playoff spot in the East.

Prior to losing to the Blue Shirts, Carolina had been winners of 3 in a row, and were on an 8-2 run their 10 previous on ice affairs.

Florida has won their last 3 skates, and are 5-2 their last 7, so by all means this game will be no breeze for the Hurricanes, but with Carolina having won 5 of the last 7 series meetings, that includes 3 of 4 and the first meeting this year back in November, 4-1 on Hurricanes ice, I am looking for the Hurricanes who are currently 8 points ahead of the host Panthers to keep up their charge for a postseason berth.

Take Carolina.

3* CAROLINA

1* Free Sharp Play on NC-Greensboro -16 -110

My money is on the Spartans to cash in an easy win and cover here as a big home favorite against the Catamounts. NC-Greenboro is 22-5 overall, 11-3 in conference play and 12-1 at home. Western Carolina is 7-21 overall, 4-11 in league play and 3-14 away from home. Spartans are winning by an average of nearly 18 ppg at home, while Catamounts are losing by almost 13 ppg on the road. Bet NC-Greensboro -16!

1 Unit FREE PLAY on Miami Heat +6

Joel Embiid is out tonight for the Philadelphia 76ers. He is the most important player on their team, and it’s really not even close. Embiid averages 27.3 points and 13.5 rebounds per game. Without him, the Heat should have their way inside with Hassan Whiteside and Bam Adebayo. The Heat have actually done their best work on the road this season where they are 15-14 SU & 18-11 ATS. Miami is 17-4 ATS in road games after losing four or five of their last six games over the last two seasons. Philadelphia is 2-10 ATS after covering three of their last four against the spread this season. The Heat are 38-15-2 ATS in their last 55 road games against a team with a winning home record. The road team is 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings. Give me the Heat.

The Key: The Cleveland Cavaliers are at least trying to win games. They have gone 3-5 SU in their last 8 games and are 5-4 ATS in their last 9 games. The Phoenix Suns aren’t even trying to win games. They have lost 15 straight coming in and are just 3-8 ATS in their last 11 games overall. Phoenix is 1-9 ATS in its last 10 games when playing on 3 or more days rest. Cleveland is 8-3 ATS in its last 11 games against a team that wins less than 40% of their games. The home team is 5-1 ATS in the last 6 meetings. Take Cleveland.

NHL | Flyers vs Canadiens
Play on: Flyers +136 at betonline

Scott "The Bulldog" Rickenbach NHL Game #13 Thursday Free Pick Philadelphia Flyers Money Line (+) @ Montreal Canadiens @ 7:35 ET - There is great line value here with the Flyers as a sizable dog. Philadelphia is off an ugly home loss to the Lightning and should respond here. Keep in mind, the Flyers had won 12 of 14 games prior to getting blasted by the best team in the NHL Tuesday. Philly is still very much alive in the playoff race and Montreal is one of the teams they are chasing. The Flyers then get a shot at Pittsburgh, the other team they are closest to in the chase for a playoff spot. The point is that Philly knows this is a great opportunity they have over these next two games and Carter Hart has responded all season long when off a bad start. If he doesn't get the start the Flyers also are stronger in goal now since Brian Elliott has returned from injury and Cam Talbot (recently acquired) is now becoming available. Montreal is off a home win versus Columbus but previously had lost 4 straight games. The Canadiens have scored an average of only 2 goals per game in their last 5 games. The Flyers have scored an average of 4 goals per game in their last 6 games. Also, Philly has won 5 straight road games and has beaten the Habs 4 straight times including each of the last two meetings at Montreal. Grab the underdog value here. Free Pick PHILADELPHIA

NBA | Blazers vs Nets
Play on: Nets +2½ -103 at pinnacle

Nets

The Brooklyn Nets are one of the biggest surprises of the season and they resume their pursuit of an Eastern Conference playoff spot when they host the Portland Trail Blazers on Thursday. Brooklyn opened 8-18 before recovering with a 20-6 stretch and stands in sixth place in the East despite losing five of its final seven games before the All-Star break.

The Nets have already surpassed last season's win total of 28 and know the final stretch of the season will be challenging as they seek their first playoff berth since 2015.

Portland star point guard Damian Lillard (ankle) is listed as questionable for the contest. The Trail Blazers stand fourth in the Western Conference but are just 10-15 on the road as they begin a seven-game road trip.

Sharpshooter Joe Harris is averaging a career-high 13.9 points and shooting a career-best 47.1 percent from 3-point range and the first-year starter saw his status raise by outdueling Stephen Curry to win the 3-point shooting contest during All-Star Weekend. Harris carved himself a role over the previous two seasons but has been a solid fixture on the much-improved current edition of the Nets.

Nets are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games playing on 3 or more days rest. Take Brooklyn at home coming out of the brea

NBA | Celtics vs Bucks
Play on: Bucks -5½ -103 at pinnacle

Jack’s Free Pick Thursday: Milwaukee Bucks -5.5

The Milwaukee Bucks have been the single-most underrated team in the NBA this season. They are 43-14 SU & 34-21-2 ATS this year and have the best record of any team in the NBA. Considering they only lead the Raptors by one game, they can’t afford to let up coming out of the All-Star Break.

Milwaukee will have no problem getting up for Boston, which knocked them out of the playoffs last season. After losing to the Celtics 113-117 on the road in their first meeting this season, they exacted some revenge with a 120-107 road win as 2-point favorites. And now they get the Celtics at home tonight for the first time this season.

The Bucks are 23-5 SU & 17-11 ATS at home this season, outscoring opponents by 13.2 points per game. And home-court advantage has been huge in this series as the home team is 10-1 SU & 8-3 ATS in the last 11 meetings.

The Celtics are 6-14 ATS in their last 20 road games vs. a team with a winning home record. The Bucks are 7-1 ATS in their last eight games vs. NBA Atlantic Division opponents. Milwaukee is 19-6-2 ATS in its last 27 vs. Eastern Conference foes. Bet the Bucks Thursday.

10* FREE NCAAB PICK (UConn +6.5)

I'll take my chances here with UConn getting 6.5-points on the road against a SMU team that comes in having lost 5 straight and 7 of their last 8 overall. I just think we are seeing a big overreaction with this line because of the fact that the Huskies are without star guard Jalen Adams and have lost 3 straight.

However, the 3-game skid isn't all that bad considering the first two were on the road against Temple and Memphis and the other was at home against AAC leader Houston. While they weren't all that competitive in the loss to the Owls, that was the game Adams went down. They only lost by 7 at Memphis and 8 at home to Houston without him.

There also figures to be a good chance that UConn gets back a key piece in Alterique Gilbert, who has been practicing and is expected to be a go if everything checks out at shootaround. Either way I like the Huskies to at least keep this within the number. UConn is 6-1 ATS last 7 games, while SMU is 1-7 ATS last 8. Mustangs are also 0-6 ATS last 6 at home off 2 straight losses. Give me Connecticut +6.5!

NCAA-B | San Francisco vs BYU
Play on: BYU -4 -110 at sportsbook

1* Free NCAAB Pick on BYU Cougars -4

I really like the value we are getting here with BYU laying such a short number at home against the Dons. I think a big reason for the value with the Cougars is the fact that BYU lost 82-63 at San Francisco back in January.

What will get overlooked with that blowout win is the Dons shot a ridiculous 63.6% from the field for the game. Easily their best shooting performance of the season. That simply is not something that will be replicated, especially on the road. In fact, San Francisco's offensive efficiency takes a big hit on the road and it's a big reason why the Dons have gone 0-6 ATS in conference road games this season.

Not only can we expect some regression from San Francisco, we should see a more efficient BYU offense, which only shot 44% in the blowout loss to the Dons. Cougars are averaging 80.1 ppg on the season and shooting 47% from the field both on the year and at home. They are 12-2 SU on their home court and a win should result in a cover here. Take BYU!

NBA | Rockets vs Lakers
Play on: UNDER 233 -107

Take Under the Total in the game between the Houston Rockets and the Los Angeles Lakers. Houston (33-24) looks to bounce-back from a 121-111 upset loss at Minnesota to close out their first-half of the regular season last Wednesday. The Rockets have then played 6 of their last 8 games Under the Total when playing with at least three days of rest. Houston has also played 24 of their last 32 games Under the Total when listed in the +/- 3-point range. Los Angeles (28-29) has lost four of their last five games after their 117-113 upset loss in Atlanta back on the previous Tuesday. The Lakers have then played 17 of last 24 games Under the Total after a straight-up loss. Los Angeles has also seen the Under go 34-16-1 in their last 51 games at home in the Staples Center. Take the Under. Best of luck — Frank.
