Scott Rickenbach

Dodgers vs. Padres
Play: Under 7½

Yesterday the Padres were shutout. Not a huge surprise there. However, what was absolutely a "ridiculous" surprise was that the Dodgers erupted for 15 runs in a pitchers' park, Petco Field, on Opening Day. Perhaps it is a carry-over from yesterday's result but the posted total on this game has climbed all day from 6.5 up to now a 7.5 as of early afternoon Tuesday and this is offering significant value for the under in this match-up. James Shields and Scott Kazmir means that this is a match-up of veteran hurlers who know how to take advantage of pitching in a pitchers' park. Shields was 6-3 with a 3.29 ERA in his home starts last season. Kazmir went undefeated in his four April starts last year and he compiled a minuscule 0.99 ERA in those four outings. He has a great shot at getting his 2016 off to a fantastic start as well. The Padres hit a paltry .239 against left-handed starters last season. Also, as you would expect based on their pitcher-friendly venue, San Diego had one of the worst slugging percentages at home out of all the teams in the majors. Before yesterday's unexpected result, the under was 13-6 in the last 19 meetings in San Diego between these divisional rivals. On Tuesday, look for a return to "normalcy" between the Padres and Dodgers as it should be a tight, low-scoring pitchers' duel.
