The Duke's Sports

Iowa (-1') for 2 Units

The home team has gotten the best of this series at 7-0 SU / 6-1 ATS and we like our chances with the Hawkeyes here. Hawkeyes' first year HC McCaffery is doing a nice job preparing his team. They suffocated UNI on Tuesday the Panthers to just 16 points in the second half. Of course, Iowa will face an entirely different approach tonight with the Cyclones, which like to push the ball up the floor and shoot early in the shot clock. The high scoring Cyclones, under Fred Hoiberg, had trouble adapting when slowed down against NIU and California. This is only the second true road game for Iowa State and McCaffery should have a solid game blend in full force at tip-off tonight. We'll look for the Hawkeyes to exact revenge from last year's 81-71 loss. Hawkeyes are a respectable 5-2 ATS as a small home favorite and should deliver.

Tom Freese

Hawks at Spurs
Pick: Spurs -8

Atlanta is 15-8 straight up this year. The Hawks are 3-10 ATS after allowing 100 or more points in their last game. The Hawks are 0-5 ATS their last Western Conference games and they are 3-9 ATS their last 12 Friday games and they are 1-8-1 ATS their last 10 games in San Antonio. The Spurs are 18-3 straight up this year. San Antonio is 7-1 ATS off a straight up win by more than 10 points. The Spurs are 7-1 ATS their last 8 games vs. a team with a winning record and they are 6-2 ATS their last 8 home games. The Spurs are 10-4 ATS their last 14 games overall. 10* "NO BRAINER" PLAY ON SAN ANTONIO -

1* Toronto +2

Denver has not played well on the road this year, and they are really slumping overall right now. There continues to be drama surrounding Carmelo Anthony because he doesn't want to be in Denver, and the issue has been a huge distraction to the team. The Nuggets are continuing their road trip here after losing at Boston in a blowout in their last game. Toronto has been a good home team this season as well. Toronto has shown an ability to beat good teams at home this season as well.

10* GOW: PHOENIX SUNS -5

ICEMAN HOCKEY

3* Edmonton +115

Earlier this week, the Phoenix Suns were unsuccessful in going for their longest winning streak of the season at the expense of the Portland Trailblazers. This time, they're trying to avoid matching their longest slide, and their bench could provide the difference. The Suns attempt to gain a measure of revenge as the Suns are at home, while Portland played late last night plus travel. Phoenix (11-11) has lost twice to Portland (11-11) already this season, but both were on the road. The Suns committed 19 turnovers Tuesday in the most recent matchup, a 106-99 defeat that ended a three-game winning streak that matched their longest of 2010-11. Phoenix shoots the lights out at home and has won six of eight, averaging 112.0 points in the victories. The Suns have also dominated the Trail Blazers at US Airways Center, winning 18 of the last 22 meetings. Two victories came in the first round of the 2010 playoffs, including a 107-88 series-clinching win as the bench reserves totaled 55 points. The Suns' bench could be key again Friday, as it leads the Western Conference with 38.2 points per game and has averaged 42.3 over the last seven games. Guard Steve Nash may be looking to improve upon his performance from Wednesday as he scored 11 points with seven assists and eight turnovers. Portland is not a good road team and they went 0-4 on their last road trip and have dropped seven of eight as the visitor. I'm backing the SUNS here at home as my 10* NBA GAME OF THE WEEK!
