Philadelphia Phillies at SF Giants
Pick: SF Giants +150
Roy Halladay has been outstanding for the Phillies as he is off to a 4-0 start in his four outings while posting a 0.82 ERA and 0.88 WHIP. This includes two shutouts and while I do not play the due theory where we are hoping for a bad outing but I do play the value theory based on these good performances. Because Halladay is off to such a great start, we get a lot of value in this number and even more so with another quality pitcher at home. Jonathan Sanchez is off back-to-back quality outings where he allowed a total of one run covering 15 innings. He faced the Phillies twice last season and posted a 2.31 ERA and 1.03 WHIP so that confidence will go forward here. Play on home underdogs with a money line of +125 or more where team's hitters strike out six or less times per game on the season, after getting shut out. This situation is 31-17 (64.6 percent) since 1997 and it is even stronger than that because of the underdog factor. The Giants are 23-10 in their last 33 games against starting pitcher’s whose ERA is 3.50 or better while also going 28-11 in their last 37 games when the total is 7.5 or less. 10* San Francisco Giants

Pittsburgh Pirates +185
Both teams have struggled early, but the Pirates have an excuse with so many guys dropping from the rotation within the last few nights. Zack Duke, however, should give them enough innings to get their pitchers ample rest. Also, the Pittsburgh bats have been doing ok (they just haven't been able to cash in with runners in scoring position). Duke is too good of a pitcher to let this value pass us by. Take the Pirates with the money.
