Despite a rough opening weekend in the Bronx, I like this Detroit Tiger team. They were only 81-81 a year ago, but had a lot of talent and balance. They should have been much better and I see a bounce back season. Starter Ricky Porcello showed improvement in his K-rate with 15 strikeouts in 22.1 innings and at age 22, there's still plenty of upside with Porcello. It got so bad for Porcello last year that he was sent back to the minors, but he righted the ship when he returned. He posted a 4.00 ERA, a 1.16 WHIP and a strikeout-to-walk ratio of better than 3-to-1 in 14 starts after the break. He faces a bad Baltimore team. I don't care for Orioles starter Jake Arrieta, who struggled in spring training to keep runners from crossing the plate (5.79 ERA). He was shut down last September due to a bone spur in his elbow. Play the Tigers!

Taking the Bulldogs here on the ML. Closing out what has been a less than stellar CBB season. Over 50 close losses. Losses of a half point to 4 points. It's clear I have had some problems being on the right side of these games. Most cappers don't tell you when they struggle. I've had a rough year. We will look to go out on top here Monday night. Butler has really come on strong late. I like their physical defense and the fact that they have not quit. They keep coming back. They look like they are done, get some defensive stops, and next thing you know a 8 point deficit is a 6 point lead. Can't really knock UCONN at this point. What a hell of a run they have had. Fact is though, Butler is back and they won't be intimated. I think Duke was head and shoulders better than this Huskies team. I normally don't compare like that, but this is almost the same Butler team. They play defense, hit FTs and hit 3s. You can go half with the points or all with points. I will take the full 4* on the ML.
4* Mariners +146
Taking Seattle here. Texas riding high after sweeping the Red Sox, letting the league now that last year's American League Champs are not to be cast aside just yet. That being said, that was a big series for the Rangers. Even opening in April, they had to have a chip on their shoulder going against the team who is the new World Series frontrunner. Bedard looked good in spring posting a 3.15 ERA. Off a 2-1 series win in Oakland, Seattle may catch Texas coming down off of a high and steal game 1.
4* Pirates + 138
Taking Pittsburgh here. Another case of a nice dog. Pirates took 2 of 3 from the Cubbies and now face STL who dropped 2 of 3 to the Padres. Pirates always have nothing to prove and just come out and have fun. And in STL, you might be seeing the makings of a terrible season. I can't trust this lineup. There is no protect for Albert. And I am not betting on Lohse to toss 8 scoreless. Pirates have some young bats and their players are hungry to make a name for themselves.
