Dwayne Bryant

Los Angeles Lakers at Memphis Grizzlies
Bet: Memphis Grizzlies +2

This situation strongly favors Memphis tonight. The Grizzlies are coming off back-to-back losses, the last of which was an OT loss to the Hornets at home that snapped their 11-game home win streak. They've had a day off to let that stew, and now they get the added motivation of playing the defending champion Lakers -- a team that has beaten Memphis five straight times, and the last four by double digits. The Grizzlies will definitely be "up" for this one, and it doesn't hurt that they are 5-0 ATS in their last five games as a home underdog.

The Lakers are coming off a late come-from-behind win at Boston yesterday. This is the last game of a brutal eight-game 12-day road trip, and they've now played five road games in the last seven days. Fatigue simply MUST be a factor tonight. And just how motivated can the Lakers possibly be? They've beaten Memphis five straight times with the last four coming by 10 points or more; they own a whopping 9.5-game lead in the Pacific Division, and a 4.5-game lead in the Western Conference overall. I just don't see how the Lakers will be able to "get up" for Memphis tonight. Also, the Lakers are just 1-6-1 ATS in their last eight road games vs. a team with a winning home record.

The line movement is VERY favorable. TWICE this morning the line moved from Memphis +1.5 to +2 because the public is all over the Lakers, and BOTH times it was moved back to +1.5 WITHIN ONE MINUTE. Only "wiseguy money" and lots of it can move a line back that fast. And like I said, it happened twice.

Bottom line: this is a VERY favorable spot for Memphis, as they couldn't be catching the Lakers at a better time. With the way Memphis has been playing at home, this looks like their best chance to beat LA. Take the points with Memphis.

The Duke's Sports

Akron (-12) for 2.5 Units

The home team in this series sports an impressive 9-1 ATS mark and we're not going to fade that trend here. The Zips have beaten the Eagles in Akron's Rhodes arena by an average margin of 16 ppg (at least by 12 points in each). Akron toyed with Toledo at home Saturday winning but not covering the big spread. We're going to look for the Zips to come out smoking here; after all, Akron is 38-14-3 ATS following an ATS loss,5-2 ATS on Mondays, and 5-0 ATS at home vs EM. EM has trouble defending on the road (allow 75 ppg); moreover, they're offensively challenged as a team in the lower tier in scoring in the MAC. With the Eagles at 1-5 ATS on the road vs a home team with a win % above .600, we'll look for the Zips to choke them out here.
