3* SAN ANTONIO SPURS -3

The Spurs need a ‘whippin boy’ BAD. Their long 8-game road trip started with a slim win (but ATS loss) over the Sacramento Kings. Then, they lost on Thursday night as road favorites to the Portland Trailblazers. The current ATS streak is 0-3 in the€ir last 3… and 2-6 in their last 8. The Clippers should provide the perfect ‘whippin boy’ on Saturday night. After all, this is a series in which San Antonio has DOMINATED as of late.

The SPURS are a PERFECT 6-0 SU and ATS versus the Clippers since the start of the 2008 season. Average Line: San Antonio –7.5 points. They won those games by 16 pts (December of this season)… 25 pts (December of this season)… 13 pts… 28 pts… 22 pts… and 3 pts. Average winning margin: +17.8 points.

AS we have mentioned multiple times over the last few weeks, this is a very dangerous (and unprofitable) situation for the host Clippers. It’s their FIRST home game off an extended 8-game road trip. The host in this situation tends to sleepwalk through the game. We’ve already played AGAINST these hosts 4 times in the last two weeks.. and have gone 4-0 Ats in the process. Your ‘home fades’ have been LA Lakers (vs Charlotte on Wed)… Chic Bulls (vs LA Clippers on Tue)…. Dal Mavericks (vs Milwaukee)… and Sac Kings (vs Golden State).

1-9 ATS last 4 years: All HOME Teams playing off 5 or more road games… playing off BB ATS wins (Clippers)… vs any opponent off a SU loss (SPURS).

10-2 ATS since Dec 1st: All SATURDAY non-division conference road teams playing off a SU loss (SPURS). Road FAVORITES have gone a PERFECT 3-0 ATS...

San Antonio comes in on one day of rest… while the Clips are on two days rest.
10-3 ATS this season: All NBA teams in a ‘1/2’ rest situation playing off 3 or more ATS losses (SPURS). Road teams have gone 6-1 ATS.

As mentioned above, the Spurs are off a SU road favorite loss (to Portland)… and a SU road win but an ATS loss (to Sacramento).
16-3 ATS this season: All non-division teams playing off a SU favorite loss… and a SU win but an ATS loss (SPURS). We also note that FAVORITES in this situation have gone 10-1 ATS this season.

The Clippers wrapped up their road trip with an ATS cover (but SU loss) to the Atlanta Hawks as big Underdogs of +9.5 points.
1-9 ATS since December: All NBA home underdogs playing off a SU loss BUT an ATS win as an underdog of +9 > points (Clips).

A unique scheduling situation finds host Los Angeles playing before AND after 2 days of rest. They last played on Wednesday… and their next game is not until Tuesday.
0-5 ATS this season: All Conference home underdogs of < 10 points playing AFTER 2 days rest… and BEFORE 2 days rest (Clips).

Triple Threat Sports Guaranteed Selections

4* Denver (-) over Florida Atlantic

Few teams have as big of a Home/Away dichotomy as the Denver Pioneers. They might not be able to beat Marist on the road, but get them at home and it is a different story. Their success at home is a combination of the altitude, the incredibly loud throng of 6000(+) at Magness Arena, and five returning starters to go along with a deep bench that (in combination with the other two factors) wears opposing teams down. Denver does come into this off back to back losses, but both of those were on the road and in fact those losses provide value here. As for Florida Atlantic, they are travelling to altitude and have not done well away from home this season. In fact, they are 1-9 SU in ten road games against teams ranked in our Top 200, and Denver at home is well within that range. The road losses for FAU have come by an average of 13.2 ppg, the win came by just a point, and the most recent road loss came by 17 points against North Texas, a team we rate almost even with Denver. Finally, note this is the second straight road game for FAU; making the altitude an even bigger factor. Lay the points here.

5 UNIT BEST BET Tennessee-Martin -1

Arguably Tennessee-Martin (3-18, 0-11 conference) is the worst team in the country especially since they have amazingly dropped 14 of the past 15 attempts against the spread. But there is a good reason why the Skyhawks have been cast as a favorite as they are facing a Tennessee State squad (4-20, 1-11 conference) that is almost as bad. One of the reasons why this particular pick is so intriguing has to do with the “revenge” factor as Tennessee State’s only league victory this season came against none other than Tennessee-Martin. But the real big news which lifted this game into “5 Unit” elite status has to do with the fact that less then a week ago Tennessee State KICKED OFF 4 players from the squad including their LEAD SCORER Josh Sain due to repeated violations that one would assume were incredibly serious in nature. To make a long story short Tennessee State is now operating with just NINE players on what is a severely depleted roster. Of the nine remaining eligible players 5 of them just happen to be inexperienced FRESHMEN. To give you an idea how truly young they are a whopping 31% of Tennessee State’s offensive output comes from a pair of FRESHMEN who can get rattled when playing on the road. Not only is Tennessee State an extremely “green” squad, they are operating under a ROOKIE head coach who obviously has lost control of the locker room by having to eject 4 players from the roster. Getting back to Tennessee-Martin they are coming off an impressive outing where they climbed back from a massive 18-point deficit to lose by just a “five” point count. Martin actually was within THREE points and possession of the ball with less than 30-seconds left on the clock. For a team that has been drilled almost on a nightly basis, Tennessee-Martin is coming off a game where they gained a valuable LEARNING EXPERIENCE dealing with a tight contest in the waning seconds and with a virtual pick-em spot tonight, that experience will come in handy. According to Martin’s head coach his team earlier this week was able to limit the opposition’s “second shot” opportunities by dominating the boards. It was exactly one week ago when Tennessee-Martin hosted an ESPNU televised contest and was pounded by Murray State who is the cream of the crop from the Ohio Valley Conference. But on this particular Saturday Martin is hosting an opponent who is the exact OPPOSITE of Murray State as far as statistics are concerned. As previously mentioned Tennessee State just kicked FOUR players off the squad and on Thursday the now depleted roster shot just 34% from the field and hit just 60% of their free-throw attempts. In a virtual pick-em spot such as this those missed free throws are critical
