Kansas St. -4.5

Butler did not play well (at all) in the Sweet 16 and simply won by taking advantage of a non-focused Syracuse and error-happy team that night. The line is shockingly low because the oddsmakers are giving too much credit to Butler for beating Syracuse, but it was just one of those games. Kansas State is a far better team and should have no problems taking care of Butler, and will probably do so by double-digits. It is easy to say, "Look for another big game from Pullen" but Butler really does not have an offensive answer for him. They will not be able to keep up with the score and should be playing from behind virtually the entire game. It was a great run for Butler, but they are not a Final Four team. Take the Wildcats.

The Duke's Sports

Kentucky (-4) for 2.5 Units

Calipari has done a brilliant job with his young super talented bunch. And he has especially done a remarkable job with them defensively as they absolutely shut down Cornell's perimeter game while limiting their inside game. WV,of course, will pose more problems with their physicality and Huggins always gets the best out of his players' fundamentally. However, WV is without a true point guard and now the Mounties' best player -Butler - is having trouble with his wrist. WV has a tendency to go into long droughts in their half court offense and playing an athletic and well disciplined defense like Calipari has constructed, can only lead to more offensive problems.

West Virginia just looked like crap against an average Washington team on Thursday. I have not seen them put to gether a great game yet and with no true point guard, they simply do not match up well in this game, and Cousins on the boards will be an issue for them. They also had great trouble against poor shooting Mizzou as well. Kentucky the total package and the betyter team, and while many say they struggled against Cornell who has a better backcourt than WV, they still won by 17 points, and have beaten 3 opponents in this tourney by a combined 76 points, and on a bad night they wion by 17!

Play 1 Unit on Kentucky.

KENTUCKY -4

Kentucky has proven that they are the best team in the tournament, and they are playing better and better with each game. West Virginia has played very well this season and of late, but they looked very sluggish in their win over Washington. The Mountaineers weakness is their offense at times, and I don’t think they have the offense capable of hanging with Kentucky. Once the Wildcats get a lead in this game, it will become very hard for the Mountaineers to come back due to their suspect offense. West Virginia has averaged just 41% from the field and 25% from the 3 point line over their last 5 games. However, they have used a very tough defense to get wins. Look for Kentucky to use their vastly better offense and better overall team play to get the win and point spread cover.

WEST VIRGINIA +4

Although we cashed 70% of our NCAA Tournament packages on the first weekend of action, our actual bracket was pretty much left a mess following the bevy of upsets that took place during the four-day span. That trend has continued into the Sweet 16 with teams such as Butler and Tennessee unexpectedly advancing, so allow us some time to gather ourselves. Before the Tournament even began we (and pretty much everyone else) had Kentucky and West Virginia meeting in the Elite Eight and the two top seeds in the East Region have not disappointed. They now meet with the winner moving onto the Final Four. It could be argued that these teams have been the two most impressive of the entire tournament with both sporting 3-0 ATS records and winning every game by a minimum of nine points. Interestingly, neither squad has faced a team seeded higher than ninth thus far, so maybe that plays into it. Still, Kentucky has an average margin of victory of 25.3 PPG (by far the best of the remaining teams) and WVU is at a strong +16.3 PPG. Keep in mind that the Mountaineers also began the Tournament in a 19-5 hole against Morgan State. In our opinion, these teams are fairly evenly matched with the slight edge going to WVU. As always, the key will be the Mountaineers defense. No tourney opponent has scored 60 points against them. UK is coming off a weak 62 pt effort vs. Cornell and has benefited from poor shooting performances by all three previous opponents. Trust us, we played the Wildcats in each of the last two rounds. Note that over the last three seasons, WVU is a perfect 6-0 ATS the last three seasons after allowing 60 pts or less each of their previous three contests. They have also now covered 15 of their last 17 NCAA Tournament games. Kentucky, meanwhile, is 0-7 ATS last three seasons after allowing 50 points or less. The Wildcats will not like playing at West Virginia's pace and style. For the first time in this Tournament, they will find an opponent that is not afraid to get physical. WVU will slow tempo and work the shot clock. The Mountaineers rank first in the country in offensive rebounding. Can't see the Final Four without a Big East team. West Virginia is our "VEGAS ICON."
