2* SOUTH ALABAMA

2* LA-MONROE

We’ll be playing against a couple of favorites on Saturday that are in no position to be laying points in the opening round of the Sunbelt Tourney. The OWLS of Florida-Atlantic come into the game on a 0-3 SU run in their last 3 games… 0-4 ATS last 4.. .and 1-6 ATS last 7. The RAGIN’ CAJUNS of La-Lafayette are 0-2 SU in their last 2… and have dropped the cash in their lat 6 games (0-6 ATS). Besides, it’s the DOGS that rule in the first round of this Tourney.

14-4 ATS: All SUNBELT opening round Underdogs (S ALA / LA-MON)… vs any opponent off a SI loss (Fla-Atl / La-Lafayette). For ‘tighteners’, we also note that teams off a SU win (Both of our dogs) have gone 5-1 ATS (4-0 ATS last 5 years). These teams are also 4-0 ATS when playing with same-season revenge.

A review of the current ATS losing streaks of today’s favorites also points us in the right direction.
1-5 ATS: All SUNBELT Tourney favs of > 3 points in ANY round… playing of BB ATS losses (Fla-Atl / La-Lafayette).

4-15 ATS since 1994: In ALL Opening Round games of Conference Tourney action…. Favorites playing off 4 or more ATS losses in a row (BOTH teams)…. And 2-10 ATS when playing of 5 or more ATS losses (La-Lafayette). These teams have gone 1-7 ATS in the last 10 years.

Laying points in the opening round after losing a game you were SUPPOSED to win is the kiss of death.
14-34 ATS since 1998: ALL Opening Round favorites of > 3 points playing off a SU favorite loss (Fla-Atl). These teams have gone 1-8 ATS in the last 2 years… and have gone a PERFECT 0-4 ATS in the Sunbelt Conference specifically.

3* Atlanta Thrashers ML

This pick falls into one of my top NHL systems and the Thrashers are 4-0 in their last 4 games against a team with a losing record. Tampa Bay has lost 5 straight games and they are just 20-52 in their last 72 games when playing with 1 days rest. The Lightning are just 16-41 in their last 57 games when playing against a Southeast opponent and they are averaging just 2.8 goals per game this season against Division opponent. The Thrashers are averaging 4 goals per game over their last 5 games and we are getting very good value with Atlanta tonight.

Tony George

Marshall -2.5

the Herd a decent road team, and the better team in this matchup by far. A short number for a team coming off a 4 point loss to rated UTEP at home. SMU does not have the horses (or Mustangs in this case) to hang with Marshall, even at home where they have lost 6 games this year, and the rebounding edge for Marshall is huge in this game, which means cheap buckets and second chance shots, just enough to eek out a win and cover a short number. Play 1 Unit on Marshall

Baylor -3

We've officially given up on Texas, who has now fallen from #1 in the country to unranked in less than two months time. That's a nearly unprecedented drop as no #1 ranked team has gone on to fall out of the polls in the same season since Alabama did it in 2003. The Longhorns have simply been a disaster at the betting window against conference opponents going 3-13 ATS this season and 7-28 ATS their last 35 league games overall. HC Rick Barnes made headlines earlier in the week when he said he was more interested in producing pro prospects than winning national titles. Well, we already knew that as there's only one Kevin Durant and we can't remember the last time the school won it all. One of the team's first losses of the year came against tonight's opponent, Baylor, who now owns a better overall record than Texas. The Bears snapped an 11-game losing streak in Austin back on Jan 30th with an 80-77 OT win and will now look to snap an eleven-game losing streak to the Longhorns here in Waco. This game is crucial to Baylor, who can also clinch the 3rd seed (and a first-round bye) in the upcoming Big 12 Tournament with a second victory over Texas, but can drop as far as 6th with a loss. Do we have to remind you how dominant Big 12 home teams have been all season? Take Baylor.
