Las Vegas Insider - Denver -.9.5

Denver has its weaknesses and can't play away from home (2-10 SU and 2-8 ATS) but the Pioneers are tough here in Magness Arena where they are 11-3 SU and 8-4 ATS. That includes a 7-0 SU (6-1 ATS) mark at home in SBC games, the reason Denver is atop the SBC-West division at 9-4. Denver is misplaced geographically in the Sun Belt making it tough for them to travel but also for teams to visit them, especially with the change in altitude. South Alabama just played an excellent game at The Super Pit vs North Texas Thursday night (hung tough in a three-point loss) but the Jaguars now have to play in Denver (tough trip). The Jags own a hard-nosed, if not imposing frontcourt, featuring the 6-5 Brock (14.6-3.8), 6-6 undersized center Cubit (13.1-10.9) plus the 6-6 Redus (8.6-4.0). The backcourt features Williams (12.5-4.7) and Cooks (8.6-3.3 APG) but the Jags are just 4-9 in the SBC-East and overall this year, just 3-9 on the road. Denver has horrible defensive numbers, allowing opponents to make 45.8% of their shots, including 41.2% on threes, one of the worst figures in the nation. However, by controlling the pace of the game (especially here at home), the Pioneers are allowing just 61.3 PPG on the entire season. Guard Stafford (13.0) is the leading scorer followed by the 6-5 Hallam brothers (not twins). Chase (12.9-4.3-2.5) is the better player but Travis (9.0-3.5-2.8) is no slouch. Note that Stafford shoots 48.8 percent (44.7 on threes), Chase 47.5 percent (41.8 on threes) and Travis 48.2 percent (47.4 on threes. The 6-6 Udofia (8.1-4.4), 6-9 Air Force transfer Noonan (4.6-2.4) and the 6-9 Hooper (5.2-1.5) are the frontcourt players (Hooper is battling concussion and is questionable). However, without Hooper on Thursday, the Pioneers shot 53.7% as a team (11-of-23 on threes) while holding UL-Monroe to 35.3% and just 37 points in a 28-point win. Deja vu here? Maybe not a 28-point win but surely a win and cover. Remember, Denver is 6-1 ATS (85.7%) at home in SBC games this year.
