Gonzaga / Syracuse OVER 148.5
We have value with this total which has dropped from an opening figure of 151 points and it is easy to see why. Back on Thursday in the opening round Syracuse showed up defensively and held Vermont to just 56 points on the scoreboard. The final result of that opening contest did not come as a personal shock considering that Vermont was the second-WORST “three point” shooting team in their conference. I am fully aware that statistically Gonzaga is not a proficient shooting squad from long range, but there was something the Zags pulled off on Thursday that makes the OVER quite intriguing this afternoon. In that Thursday contest Mark Few and company were facing a Florida State contingent that was ranked #1 nationally in field goal percentage defense. All Gonzaga did against that stop-unit on Thursday was successfully hit on 50-PERCENT of their shot attempts. There is an interesting totals pattern developing with Gonzaga who has played “above” the total just ONCE in the most recent 10 outings. In the initial pair of months to a new season the Zags went 10-3 OVER the spot with the bulk of those contests against “non” conference competition. Dating all the way back to 1997 Gonzaga is 32-12 OVER when cast as an underdog. Meanwhile in the past three years Syracuse is 15-6 OVER in the month of March where the offense has averaged a healthy 80 points per contest. In Thursday’s opener Syracuse did not suffer with 6’9”/250 pound center Arinze Onuaku out of the lineup as their opponent did not have a player taller that 6’5” in stature. With Onuaku once again not playing today odds are Syracuse is going to yield more points. As mentioned earlier in this analysis the opening total for this game has DROPPED from an opening of 151 which is very large considering that Gonzaga is 14-5 OVER when the posted total is between 145-and-149’ points
