All season long we've maintained that the Rams are the "pick of the CAA litter" and this afternoon they'll get to show it against top seeded Old Dominion in what shapes up as a must win for both schools' NCAA Tourney hopes. VCU actually gave us our biggest win of what has been a phenomenal College Basketball season when they defeated lowly Towson 112-53 (as 19-point favorites) back on January 27. We also cashed 'em ten days later when they beat this same Old Dominion team by 12. The Monarchs got them back in the rematch, winning 73-70, but again it was the Rams covering the spread as six-point underdogs. Let's not forget that VCU is the de facto home team for this tournament and all four league losses this season came on the road, three of them by five points or less. Old Dominion's last three losses all came by double digits. Furthemore, VCU has simply owned this rivalry at the betting window, covering 21 of the previous 30 meetings. That includes a 61-53 in this event last season. Major edge in free throw shooting for the Rams as well as ODU shoots a terrible 63% from the charity stripe in road games. The VCU defense was superb yesterday vs. George Mason, particularly in the 2nd half where they allowed the Patriots to score just 25 points. The road to here for Northern Iowa has beeen easier than Wichita State by far. I like the DEFENSE of Northern Iowa in this one, they have led the conference all year and won the regular season, and while this may be a tight game, if WSU cannot knock down outside shots, NI will by far get the better of them. Short on time today, play the Panthers. Play 1 Unit on Northern Iowa.
