ARIZONA (-7½) over Ucla
UCLA is coming off a solid 68-57 win over Stanford but the Bruins are just 4-17 ATS after a spread win the last two seasons, including 0-11 ATS if they won their last game by 8 points or more. UCLA will be playing this game without leading scorer and rebounder Reeves Nelson (also a 57% shooter), who is listed as doubtful with an ankle injury. I calculate Reeves’ offensive value at 1.3 points and my ratings favor Arizona by 9½ points with Reeves out. I’ll lean with Arizona at -8 points or less based on the line value and UCLA’s poor record after a good game. I'd take Arizona in a 2-Star Best Bet at -7 points or less.

It's hard to argue against Kent's longtime success in the MAC, as the Golden Flashes have notched 20 wins or more in 11 of the last 12 seasons. The team is 12-7 this season and could reach that plateau again in 2010-11 but this is not a vintage Kent St club. The 6-8 Greene (15.9-7.4) is terrific but he's the only notable player inside, as 6-11 JUCO transfer Manns (4.7-4.5) lacks much bulk. Sherman (12.1), Porrini (9.2-4.4-3.9) and Holt (8.8) are solid in the backcourt but the best player is Guyton (12.0), who is back from a five-game suspension. He scored 27 points in his first two games back but has averaged just 9.3 PPG over his last three. I'm not convinced everything is OK with him. As for Ball St, the Cardinals are 13-5 this season and determined to erase the bad memories of last year's late collapse. The Cardinals stood atop the MAC West with three games left but lost all three, while scoring just 67, 42 and 52 points. Then, in the team's first game in the MAC tourney, lost at home to Ohio U in OT (Bobcats went on to win the tourney and then upset Georgetown in the first round of the Big Dance). Ball State returned from Alaska in late November and is 10-2 since, losing only at a good Valparaiso team and shockingly to Morehead St in its most recent home game. Let's just chalk that up to "one of those games," as Ball St had been 7-0 at home prior to that contest. The 6-9 Jones (15.7-8.7) will match up nicely with Greene up front while guards Scaife (11.6), Davis (10.2-5.4 APG), Berry (9.3) and Sneed (3.7) plus swingman Perry (7.2-5.6) give Ball St a perimeter game equal to that of Kent St. The Golden Flashes have not been very 'golden' on the road this year, going 1-6 SU and off that Morehead St 'hiccup' (BSU shot 33.3 percent / shoot 45.4 percent on the season), I expect Ball St to play very well here.

When the Cavaliers host the Terrapins in a key ACC clash in Virginia this evening they will take the court with double revenge on their minds from a pair of losses they suffered in last year's disappointing 15-16 season. Maryland enters sporing a dismal 2-6 SU and ATS mark this season in games against winning teams while Virginia is standing tall at home against sub .700 opposition with a 7-1 SU and 3-0 ATS mark. With the Terrapins looking dead ahead to a conference tourney knockout revenge game this Saturday with Georgia Tech, we'll grab the points in this upset maker tonight.
