2000* - Penn State Nittany Lions
500* - Florida Gators

Live dog Lions here tonight in Indianapolis baby!

Penn State is one tough out, and Minnesota is going to find that out in this game at the Conseco Fieldhouse on Thursday.

The Nittany's have 19 losses this year, but 10 of the 19 have come by just 5 points or fewer. That includes a 2-point home loss at home to Minnesota, and a 5-point road loss to a Minny team that doesn't exactly enter this tourney "flying high".

Tubby Smith's team has been shaky at best away from their cozy gym, sporting just a 4-9 straight up away mark, and a 3-10 against the spread away mark in those games.

Penn State is 9-4-1 against the spread on the road this year, and with "double-revenge" this season on their side, look for this to be a nip-and-tuck affair all the way to the final buzzer.

The Lions are 4-1 against the spread the last 5 series meetings, including covering 3 straight.

Take the dog here.

2000♦ - Penn State Nittany Lions

Gators need this one, and they need it bad! Of course that doesn't guarantee they will get it, and Auburn has been sticky this season for many a team, but this is a number I feel Florida can cover.

Florida has won 9 of the last 10 in the series, and their current 3 game losing streak entering this game suggests the Gators could be NIT-bound if they don't take care of their business in this opening round contest.

The Tigers are just 15-16 coming into this game, and they have lost their last 6 on the conference road.

Have to lay the short wood, and look for Florida to step it up a notch.

500♦ - Florida Gators

Utah at UNLV
Pick: Utah +13.5

Utah defeated UNLV twice this season to sweep the season series. Utah is just 14-16 this season, but they match-up well with UNLV and are a great value as a 12.5 point underdog. The Utes know that after sweeping the regular season series, the third time around will be the toughest test yet. "I'm expecting them to play us like they played Louisville earlier in the year, like they played BYU, like they played New Mexico at New Mexico," Utah junior guard Carlon Brown said Tuesday, referencing some of UNLV's biggest wins this season. "I'm expecting every pig punch and the crowd to be in it."

Utah won’t take the game lightly and we expect a close game throughout. Go with the Utes plus the points. Utah’s big frontline causes problems for the Rebels. In two wins this season, Utah forced UNLV out of the paint and made them dependent on the 3-point shot. UNLV made just 46 of 110 (41.8%) field goals and just 4 of 24 (16%) from beyond the arc. Utah was much more efficient on the offensive side of the ball. They made 48% of their shots and 11 of 26 (42%) from 3-point range.

Utah dropped their latest two games, losing to BYU and Colorado State to end the regular season. BYU is 28-4 and Utah was in a bad situation - coming off of back to back double digit victories. Against Colorado State, the Utes were without center David Foster and forward Kim Tillie, who were both out with ankle injuries. Foster and Tillie should be back against UNLV and they bring with them a combined 11.7 PPG, 10.1 RPG and 4.5 BPG. (Foster leads the conference in blocks per game.)

UNLV won their final four games of the season, beating the bottom four teams in the Mountain West Conference (Air Force, Colorado State, TCU and Wyoming). They hadn’t been playing well before picking up those four “garbage wins” to close out the season.

Utah is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 neutral site games as an underdog and 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games following a S.U. loss. Go with the Utes.
