The Duke's Sports

Alabama (+4') for 2 Units

Alabama defends their home court well (9-0), plays great defense (#1 ranked), rebounds the ball well, and can knock down free throws. The 'Tide covered both games last year despite losing SU and they're eager to not only gain revenge but get back in the SEC hunt after losing a tough game at Arkansas Saturday. We like Alabama's game with Green and Mitchell as two legitimate stars. And the 'Tide has been quite successful pounding the paint with a strong 621-370 advantage. Alabama is 6-1 ATS vs the SEC while the 'Cats have lost 5 of the last 7 against the SEC. At time the youth of KY catches up to them and this could easily be the spot after a dominating effort vs LSU. KY is just 1-10 ATS after allowing less than 50 points. Alabama the call.

1* Illinois -4.5

Michigan State is in a prime spot to get blown out. The Spartans have not played well this season, despite getting some recent wins and point spread covers. They should not have beaten Wisconsin at home and needed a big late 2nd half rally to send it to overtime and win it. They also beat Minnesota when they were banged up and needed overtime to beat Northwestern at home. The Spartans were also easily handled by Texas at home a few weeks ago. Illinois is a quality team in a great bounce back spot here after two straight road losses. The Illini are capable of getting a big home win, especially against Michigan State since they have struggled to score in several games this season. Look for Illinois to get the home win and cover.

8* Georgia -3.5

Tennessee fell behind at home vs Vandy on Saturday 30-13 but came back to win, 70-67. The Vols won despite a 4-of-19 "effort" from three-point range plus getting outscored at the charity stripe, 17-11. With all due respect to the Vols, the win was due as much to Vandy's collapse as it was to the Vols' comeback ('Dores had 21 TOs!). Interim head coach Tony Jones is filling in for Pearl as he sits out his eight-game suspension and confidence can't be all that high for a man who has yet to lead a program (17-year assistant). In comparison, Mark Fox has quickly restored a struggling Georgia program into an SEC contender in just his second season. He went 123-43 in five seasons at Nevada, averaging 27 wins per season during a stretch in which he made three straight NCAA appearances. After a 14-17 season last year, he has the Bulldogs at 13-3 overall, including a "signature" seven-point home win over Kentucky plus a very impressive 98-76 win this past Saturday at Ole Miss. There is no arguing that Tennessee has talent with a guard trio of the 6-7 Hopson (16.5-3.4), Tatum (10.5-3.3) and Goins (8.2-3.0 APG), as well as 6-8 freshman Harris (15.6-7.6) and 6-10 senior Williams (6.1-8.1) up front. However, the Bulldogs backcourt is Tennessee's equal with Leslie (14.6-7.6-2.5), Tenn St transfer Robinson (13.9-4.4 APG) and Ware (7.4-3.6 APG). Up front, the 6-10 Thompson (17.9-7.3) is arguably the best player on the floor, joined by the 6-8 Price (8.3-4.8). The Bulldogs play excellent team defense (64.5 PPG allowed on 39.6 percent shooting) and are a perfect 8-0 at home this season while going 7-2 ATS as an SEC host the last one-plus seasons. On the sidelines, Fox over Jones is a "no brainer!" Take the Bulldogs.

Evansville +4.5

Not interested in laying the number with the favored Salukis, even in Carbondale, as they return home off BB road losses and are still awaiting the return of injured C Teague. They have scored just 51 and 52 points the last two games and are facing an Evansville squad playing with double revenge and off an outright road win over Illinois State where the Purple Aces outscored the Redbirds 30-10 in the paint. Evansville is our CBB Oddsmaker Mismatch.
