The drawn out anticipation for Steven Strasburg comes to an end tonight as he makes his Major Leauge debut. This guy is going to be an awesome pitcher, but it is his first start and, even if he is playing the Pirates, he is still going up against major leauge hitters. This is simply an over-inflated line for a rookie pitcher on an average (at best) team. No rookie pitcher should ever be -220 until he proves himself. Let's take our chances with a great value and nice payout in the Pirates. Take Pittsburgh.

75 DIME St. Louis Cardinals against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Cardinals - To get Chris Carpenter and the St. Louis Cardinals at this low of a price against a struggling Hiroki Kuroda makes this my strongest play of the season.
Carpenter easily can take his place among the best pitchers in baseball when healthy - and he's healthy again this season. He's 7-1 with a 2.76 ERA and 1.08 WHIP. He finished up a strong May with a 2.53 ERA and a 35-to-9 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
Perhaps the oddsmaker is thinking back to last year's playoffs when Carpenter wasn't at his best during a 5-3 Dodgers win by making this line so low.
Carpenter has a strong regular-season history versus Los Angeles, though, with a 5-0 record and 2.20 ERA. He'll be pumped to pitch well at Dodger Stadium after last season's post-season loss to Los Angeles.
Kuroda pitched well during the first six weeks of the season, but has since tailed off. He has a 10-to-7 strikeout-to-walk ratio in his last four starts, giving up a home run during each of his past four outings. He's allowed 30 hits during his last four starts spanning 22 innings.
Andre Ethier is back for the Dodgers, but he's been slumping since coming off the DL after suffering a broken right pinkie. He entered the series just 5-for-28 since returning.

LA Angels (-143) for 2 Units
The Angels enjoy playing in the Oakland Coliseum where they're 10-1 in their last 11. Tonight, we'll look for the Angels' winning run to continue there and notch their 7th straight overall win. Jered Weaver is in good form coming off 3 strong outings; moreover, he controls a 1.17 ERA in his last 4 outings vs Oakland. We'll look for Jered to get the needed run support;after all, the A's Vin Mazzaro has struggled for most of the season, recalled twice from Triple A, and was lit up like a torch in 2 starts vs LA (7.88 ERA). Good value with the Angels who are 13-3 vs a starter with a WHIP in excess of 1.30.
Rocketman
3* Texas -120
Seattle is 7-18 this year against division opponents. Seattle is 0-5 this year as a road underdog of +100 to +125. Texas is 20-11 this year at home. Texas is 21-11 this year when playing against a team with a losing record. Seattle is scoring only 3.6 runs per game overall, 3.6 runs per game on the road and 3.5 runs per game against right handed starters this season. Seattle bullpen has a 5.57 ERA on the road this year. Texas bullpen has a 3.84 ERA overall this year. Colby Lewis is 3-0 with a 3.08 ERA at home this year. We'll play Texas for 3 units tonight!
