MR EAST

NCAAB WEDNESDAY TORCHER

ARIZONA ST. SUN DEVILS @ DUKE BLUE DEVILS
PLAY: 3 UNITS DUKE BLUE DEVILS -9

The Arizona St. Sun Devils had a big year last season, riding the talent of what would be 2 NBA 1st round draft picks in James Harden, and Jeff Pendergraph. That duo combined for 35 points and 14 rebounds, and 46 wins the last 2 years, while the previous 3 years saw a combined 37 wins. They are going to struggle this season, especially vs a team as talent rich as Duke. Duke always has an abundance of talent coming and going, and it is the reason that one of the worst years at Duke, is on the level with one of the best years at ASU. The big problem for Duke was supposed to be at guard, but enter a vastly improved Nolan Smith (22ppg), and a freshamn that through early enrollment entered the program a year early in Andre Dawkins (11.5pp), and that issue is gone. Freshman Miles Plumlee is scoring 10.7 a game, pulling down 5.5 boards, to compliment Singler, and Zoubek. The Dukies have more talent in every spot, including the bench. Duke gets this one.

25-Star NBA Situational Slam Dunk - Wednesday!

MIAMI HEAT VS ORLANDO MAGIC
Take: ORLANDO MAGIC

Miami has played 13 games this season, but 9 of them at home. They are 2-2 SU on the road this season, and 0-2 ATS their last two road games, losing by 15 and 7 points. Miami has been playing bad basketball of late, on a 2-4 SU, 0-6 ATS run. Orlando is no easy place to play, a team that is 11-3 and tied with Atlanta for first place. This team has great depth, on a 5-0 SU, 4-1 ATS run without Jameer Nelson. Vince Carter scored 24 points, Dwight Howard had 17 points and 12 rebounds and the Magic won their fifth straight game, 104-96 over the Toronto Raptors on Sunday. J.J. Redick added 19 points, Jason Williams had 16 and Rashard Lewis added 11 for the Magic, who have won eight of 10. They are a motivated, together team: Dwight Howard and Stan Van Gundy had a heart-to-heart meeting last week in which Dwight told Stan that his negativity was having an adverse effect on the team. Stan agreed and the Magic have been playing looser and freer every since. Orlando is 12-1 SU, 11-2 ATS the last 13 meetings between these Florida Rivals, with an average margin of vistory of 13 points. In fact, the last six games in Orlando, the Magic are 6-0 both SU&ATS winning by 21 points per contest. Orlando gets up for this state rivalry game and usually rolls. And this season, they have the better, hotter team. Play the Magic.

Mavericks at Rockets
Pick: Rockets -3.5

Great scheduling advantage for Houston here. Dallas just lost at home Tuesday night to Golden St. J.Kidd (35:40) D.Nowitzki (40:28) and J.Terry (39:22) all logged a lot of minutes. Houston has had 3 days off, and with their new uptempo style they should be able to wear out the weary Mavs in the second half. Lay the points.

10 DIME - DENVER PIONEERS - The Pioneers are ready to send a message to their neighbor from Wyoming tonight, much the way South Dakota State did already this year.

Like SDST, who returned all 5 starters from last year, Denver returns all 5 of their starters from last year.

SDST went into Wyoming and threw them a beat down to the tune of 77-61 with all 5 of those starters back from last year. Experience is crucial this early in the year.

Yes, Wyoming bounced back with a nice win over Boise State, but let's not put the cart before the horse regarding Boise. They play no defense.

This is the first true road game for a Wyoming squad that lost 80% of their scoring with the loss of back to back 4 year starters at point guard in Brandon Ewing and Sean Ogirri.

You take those two with departed forward Tyson Johnson and their goes over 46 points of scoring along with a whole lot of leadership.

Returning are starters Dfam Muojake, who has become their go to guy this year putting up 19, 26 and 18 points in their first 3 games this year.

Problem facing this team tonight is not only are you taking your inexperienced backcourt on the road for the first time but you are facing an even better team in Denver.

Making matters worse for Wyoming is facing the "Princeton" offense that will be run with precision with which this very experienced team will run it with at home.

In their 3 games this year Denver has played 3 teams that have all been picked to finish in the top 3 of their preseason league ratings.

They lost their opener at home to the preseason favorite in the Missouri Valley conference Northern Iowa 71-65 followed by a solid win over Arkansas Pine Bluff 75-56, picked to finish 3rd in the SWAC.

And let me point out that is an Arkansas Pine Bluff team that returned all 5 of their five starters from last year so it's not like they didn't have any talent.

Finally love their 7 point win over Montana last game out jumping to a 14 point half time lead and cruising in the 2nd half covering the -5 over the Grizzlies picked to finish 3rd in the Big Sky.

This is the year for Joe Scott and this Denver team to make some noise and with a team that knows each other so well, laying this number is the only way to go.

Denver rolls to the double digit win.
