When the Hawks host the Kings in a non-conference clash, Atlanta will look to rebound from a disappointing 13-point home loss to Miami on Wednesday after the All-Star break. That sets the table for tonight fray as our database notes the Hawks are 7-0 SU and 5-1-1 ATS in their last seven games on their home floor off an immediate home defeat. Atlanta is also 5-0 SUATS off a double-digit loss in games against Western Conference foes this campaign. With the Kings an obliging 1-5 ATS in games off a SUATS loss in non-conference clashes this season, we'll stay at home with the Hawks here tonight. We recommend a 1-unit play on Atlanta.

Dallas applies to a nice system here cashing over 73% which plays on certain road teams with rest that had 3 or more days off prior to their last game and scored 100 or more at home, vs an opponent like the Hornets that scored 90 or more as a road dog in their last game. Dallas is 16-5 to the spread as a road dog of 3 or less including 5-1 this year. In the second half of the season the last few years they are a solid 28-2 straight up vs teams under .500. Nee Orleans is 2-10 straight up in games after allowing 105 or more and 4-17 vs teams who average 99 or more points per game. Look for Dallas to take this one.

What to expect: As is often the case, we're being asked to lay a fairly steep price to grab the insurance goal in this particular matchup on Friday night, but it's warranted in my opinion. While the Blackhawks have been the talk of the town so far this NHL season, thanks to their record-setting start (no regulation time losses in their first 16 games), they're by no means invincible, and have certainly been involved in their share of close games. In fact, they're coming off back-to-back one-goal victories, and have seen 10 of their last 14 contests decided by a single goal. The 'Hawks did brush aside these same Sharks by a 4-1 score one week ago tonight, but since then, San Jose has put an end to its lengthy losing streak, upending the Blues in St. Louis on Wednesday. That was obviously a much-needed victory for San Jose on the heels of seven consecutive losses. It's worth noting that of those seven losses, three came by way of overtime or a shootout, while another was decided by one goal. This has been a competitive series in recent years, with the Sharks and 'Hawks splitting their last 10 meetings. Three of last season's four matchups were settled by one goal. Chicago has had the upper hand by a combined 9-4 margin in the first two meetings this season, but I see the rejuvenated Sharks putting up more of a fight in this spot. This one might take more than 60 minutes to decide. Final verdict: San Jose 3 Chicago 2

This is simply a bad matchup for Columbia. When these teams tangled on February 2nd, Princeton would come away with a 72-66 victory. I'm fully expecting a similar result tonight, as the visitors take full advantage of their mismatches to pull away down the stretch for the comfortable ATS cover!

The Sharks will try to do what no other team has done this year: hand the Blackhawks a loss in regulation. The Sharks will also be looking to atone for a 4-1 setback to Chicago last Friday. The Sharks most recently ended an 0-4-3 skid with a 2-1 win over the Blues on Tuesday. "The relief is there, it's (finally) over," Sharks coach Todd McLellan said yesterday. "Now, we can't let our game slip," (San Jose has seen the total go under the number in six of eight this year when playing against a team with a winning record). Chicago is coming off a 4-3 shootout win over Vancouver on Tuesday. But the Blackhawks could be in tough here today, as Marian Hossa is likely to be sitting this one out after getting hit hard in the victory over the Canucks. That means the team will be leaning heavily on goaltender Ray Emery who has won three consecutive matchups with the Sharks, posting a 1.55 GAA in the process (Chicago has seen the total go under the number in three of four this year when playing with two days of rest). The 34 goals allowed by each team is tied for fewest in the West. I believe we'll once again see a tight, scrappy affair, and fully expect this one to stay under the number.

The Hornets have opned up the second half with 2 straighht losses, make it 3 tonight. Mavs exact revenge with a high flying offense tonight despite the Hornets improved defense.

Although the talented Knicks (32-19) have a short number this evening in a road event with Toronto (22-33), we must they have lost three straight after being ripped 125-91 last time by Indiana in a road setting. NYK was truly embarrassed being down by a solid 30 at half-time. Over the last two weeks New York has started to really come apart on the defensive end of the floor, tired legs, injuries, and disinterest at times has brought the opponents shooting mark to almost 46%. However, New York does have a slight ½ game lead over Indiana in the Eastern Conference for second place. So, they are still a very talented and dangerous unit. But, with both Wallace and Camby still out working on their conditioning, doubt their presence in the lineup.
FOR THE LARGEST SELECTION OF FREE SERVICE PLAYS VISIT THESPREAD.COM
Toronto is still in the playoff hunt. The Raptors have been playing solid ball of late winning 5 of 6 SU after dropping a game to the Grizzlies last time 88-82. Last week the Raptors went into the City and defeated the Knicks 92-88. New York shot a horrible 35.4% to help the downturn. At home Toronto is 14-14 SU, 5-8 versus the East. However, recently (January 31st) the acquisition of Rudy Gay has Toronto on the up-tick emotionally bringing more energy to the playing floor. The Knicks have covered the last 4 of 5, while the UNDERDOG has been the move at 12-3..

Injuries and suspensions have decimated this team and now they just don't care anymore. Orlando is 25th in the NBA in scoring, 20th in points allowed -- and getting worse in both categories. Memphis is a powerhouse team defensively and at home, motivated and playing well, second in the NBA in points allowed for Coach Lionel Hollins. And the Grizzlies are 10-4 ATS in their last 14 games vs. a team with a losing record. Play the Grizzlies.

Princeton couldn't get the job done at Harvard last Saturday, and as a result the Tigers are now in a must-win scenario every time out if they want to stay within hailing distance of the Crimson. Columbia gave Princeton a pretty good battle in the prior meeting, and the Lions will no doubt be eager to put forth a good effort here after getting swept on the road last weekend. But Princeton owns several matchup advantages here, and after playing at less than their best last game, I'd rather be on the side of the better team in a bounce back situation. Short number, in fact a little shorter than I thought it would be. That is actually a bit of a concern as I also know Princeton will be receiving the bulk of the betting action. Nevertheless, I'm backing the Tigers to get back on track with the win and cover tonight.

The Sharks enter this big Western Conference match up 8-4-3 on the season. Although that records looks OK they are just 3-3-1 on the road and have lost 7 of their last 8 games. The Sharks got off to a hot start, but dropped 7 straight games (scoring only 8 goals over that span) before winning their last time out in St Louis. The Blackhawks are no doubt the hottest team in the NHL with no regulation loss to date and a 13-0-3 record. They are 5-0-1 on home ice and enter tonight's game winners of 3 straight and 7 of 8. During that span includes a 4-1 home victory against the Sharks and a 5-3 victory in San Jose. Tonight we should have a good goalie match up with Antti Niemi probable who is 7-2-3 with a 1.86 GAA and .933 SV% vs Ray Emery (confirmed) who is a perfect 6-0 with a 2.27 GAA and .925 SV%. The Sharks are just 1-4 in their last 5 road games, 0-4 in their last 4 road games vs a team with a home winning % of .600 or better, and 1-9 in their last 10 vs Central division opponents. Take note that the Blackhawks have beaten the Sharks 4 of their last 5 meetings overall and they are a perfect 4-0 in their last 4 home meetings vs San Jose. The Sharks have really struggled offensively lately, while the Blackhawks have scored 3+ goals in 7 of their last 8 games and have recorded 37+ shots in their last 3 games (and 30+ shots in 6 of 7). Chicago is finding ways to win and I like them to win another big game on home ice tonight.
