New Orleans vs. Detroit
Pick: Detroit

Last night I played the Raptors, as they hosted New Orleans in just the fourth game of the Rudy Gay era. Toronto took care of business against the Hornets, pulling away in the fourth quarter and getting the win and cover. Now the Hornets have to come back to the ole U.S of A, traveling to Detroit to take on the Pistons

Detroit will have Jose Calderon in the lineup, he came over from Memphis as part of a three way trade that sent Rudy Gay to Toronto. While Gay has provided a spark to the Raptors, Calderon has stepped in and made an immediate impact with Detroit. Calderon had 23 points and 10 dimes in a 105-100 victory over the Bucks at Milwaukee.

The Pistons have won the last three in a row against the Hornets (soon to be Pelicans) in Detroit. The Hornets haven't won in Motor City since 2009, and playing their second game in as many nights, after having played in Canada last night, they aren't in a good spot here on Monday.

The Pistons have abused the weaker teams in the NBA, and they have covered the points in each of their last five games versus opponents with a losing record.

New Orleans didn't show a lot of fight in the fourth quarter in Toronto last night, and they will likely fold like a cheap suit in Detroit tonight.

Minnesota is 5-5-1, and is coming off a 2-1 OT win over Nashville on the 9th, a victory that snapped a three game slide in which the Wild scored a combined 3 goals. The Wild though have lost four straight on the road.

It was Devin Setouguchi who scored with just 40 seconds left in the extra frame which was the difference vs. the Predators, and snapped a 10-game goal drought for him.

Note that Minnesota has seen the total go "under" the number in three of four this year vs. teams with losing records.

Calgary is 3-4-2, and is coming off a 5-1 loss at Vancouver on the 9th.

Goaltender Leland Irving will make his third start of the year in place of the injured Mikka Kiprusoff:

"Leland Irving kept us in the game. Without him, it would have been much worse than this," Flames' coach Bob Hartley assessed after the loss to the Canucks. "The bottom line is they outworked us. They wanted it more than us.

"We need to show urgency. We're not going to get any gifts from anyone."

Note that Calgary has seen the total go "under" the number in two of three this year after allowing 4 goals or more.

Expect these two offensively challenged divisional opponents to battle each other tough, and look for this total to sneak below the posted number!

The Charlotte Bobcats are a team I try to stay away from like the plague. They are the worst team in the league by just about every conceivable metric. Therefore, if I'm going to step out & make a play on them, even a small one such as this, there has to be a good reason(s). I think I've uncovered a few for Monday night.....
FOR THE LARGEST SELECTION OF FREE SERVICE PLAYS VISIT THESPREAD.COM
The opponent tonight is the Boston Celtics, who have won and covered seven straight games. Admittedly, that hardly sounds like the kind of team you want to back the Bobcats against. But the Celtics just played a triple overtime marathon last night, outlasting Denver at home, 118-114. With an aging roster, this is where Boston will begin to miss point guard Rajon Rondo. Keep in mind that five of the C's wins during the current win streak has come by four points or less, including three of the last four. Since the start of last season, the team is only 4-13 ATS as a road favorite of six points or less.
FOR THE LARGEST SELECTION OF FREE SERVICE PLAYS VISIT THESPREAD.COM
Charlotte has lost seven in a row. All but one of those losses came on the road. The lone home game during that stretch was Friday and at one point they led the Lakers by as many as 20 points before blowing the lead. Boston is on a 18-32 ATS run when playing in the second of back to back games. Look for the Bobcats to take advantage and pick up a rare win.

When the Hawks fly into Dallas to meet the Mavericks at American Airlines arena Monday evening Atlanta will take the court knowing they are 7-1 SU and 6-2 ATS in games off a loss of more than 10 points this season. They are also 5-1 ATS in this series when the Mavs arrive off a double-digit win. With Dallas in off a double revenge win over Golden State and just 4-12 ATS when favored in games after meeting the Warriors, the points become the play here tonight. We recommend a 1-init play on Atlanta.

The Wizards come into this contest with plenty of momentum, and I'm fully expecting the visitors to carry it over into this contest. In fact, Washington will be seeking its first four-game win streak of the year after sweeping a three-game home stand this past week. Their victories were not over cream-puffs either, beating the Clippers, the Knicks, and most recently an 89-74 win over the Nets on Friday. The Wizards would in fact hold the Nets to a season-low 32.9 percent shooting (Washington is 4-1 ATS this year after a win by 10 points or more). The Bucks on the other hand have lost five of six, having allowed three straight opponents to reach the 100 point plateau. However, they've also been atrocious on the offensive end, getting held to under 40.0 percent shooting in each of their last two games (Milwaukee is just 9-14 ATS at home this year). Washington plays with revenge tonight after losing 101-91 to Milwaukee in front of the home town crowd back on November 9th. Why not consider a second look at the visitors in this one?

Bad spot for Oklahoma to have to cover a big number, as they are coming off their biggest win of the season with their upset win at home against Kansas on Saturday. That puts the Sooners in the dreaded "letdown-lookahead" sandwich with two road games on deck against Oklahoma State and Texas Tech. In fact, this is eerily similar to the spot Indiana was in when they lost against Illinois last week outright immediately following their big win against Michigan to regain the #1 ranking. Obviously Oklahoma is far more talented than TCU and an outright loss would be shocking indeed, however a lack of focus should lead to a slow start and TCU is capable of staying within 15 points here even with an average effort. Take the points with the road dog as the Sooners have other things to worry about than an inferior opponent tonight.

This is a game with two teams headed in opposite directions. Minnesota has been devastated by injuries, in particular Kevin Love, but also Brandon Roy, Josh Howard, and Chase Buddinger. Since Love went down the Wolves are just 3-15 and went from being a playoff contender to another stepping stone.

Cleveland on the other hand is rolling a little bit. This team has won three of their last four and six of their last nine. I think they are going to be out for revenge here tonight against a Wolves team that put a 18 point beating down on them in Minnesota back in December.

Stephen Nover

Boston Celtics vs. Charlotte Bobcats
Play: Charlotte Bobcats

Boston's 118-114 triple overtime victory against Denver on Sunday may have been the most exciting NBA game of the season.

Now, though, the Celtics and their aging stars have to go on the road for just the second time since Jan. 25 and play tonight. That's going to be tough on 35-year-old Paul Pierce, who played more than 54 minutes against Denver. It's also rough on 36-year-old Kevin Garnett, who logged 47 minutes on Sunday, and 35-year-old Jason Terry, who played close to 43 minutes.

All of Boston's victories during its current seven-game winning streak, except one, have come at home. The Celtics have failed to cover in 11 of their last 15 away matchups. They are 0-5 ATS the last five times they've been road chalk.

The Celtics are fortunate to draw Charlotte. The Bobcats do get up for marquee opponents, though. They played the Heat tough in Miami and the Lakers strong at home during the past seven days. Charlotte easily covered as 14-point underdogs against the Heat losing by five and led the Lakers by 20 in the third quarter and by nine in the fourth quarter before wilting. The Bobcats are guard-oriented and the Celtics are without Rajon Rondo.

However, nearly all of this handicap is based on fading Boston. The Celtics are off perhaps their biggest win of the season and have a huge revenge spot at home on Wednesday against the Bulls. Chicago nipped the Celtics, 100-99 in overtime, at Boston on Jan. 18. It's going to be extremely difficult for the Celtics to mentally get up for the Bobcats and even harder for them physically against such a young team following a triple overtime game.

Is it possible that losing Rajon Rondo was a good thing for the Celtics? I am a big fan but the numbers don’t lie, they are a perfect 6-0 ATS without him in the lineup and he is not coming back anytime soon. This is just their second road tilt since he went down but Charlotte is hardly a tough place to play. The real question is just how much the Celtics are going to have left in the tank after a 3OT games against Denver - another win and cover by the way. The Truth (Paul Pierce) had a triple-double and you know he is going to want to back that up. Charlotte might be better rested but the talent is pretty bad there. I think Boston can slow the game down and get another one. Might be an over perception that they should be out of this one.

Texas Christian vs. Oklahoma
Play: Texas Christian

Neither of these teams is overly talented. What both sides have in common, is a tenacious work ethic, and never say die attitude. Both Oklahoma and TCU have something else in common, and that is they both upset Kansas this season. With that said, it must be noted that the Sooners pulled of their upset on Saturday and could easily find themselves in an emotional let down mode, which could facilitate a slow start in this tilt.TCU ranks No. 2 in the Big 12 and No. 26 in the NCAA in scoring defense (58.5 ppg) and will not easily be throttled by a wide margin tonight, making taking the points a very viable bet!

I like William and Mary in this sport as Northeastern is coming off an OT winner at Old Dominion. William Marry was a 10 point dog on the road and nearly upset Northeastern in OT this year. Now they'll seek revenge. Northeastern is not the same team on the road and the home team is 7-3 ATS in the last 10 meetings.

Georgetown -4½

Marquette struggled at Louisville early last week and then was able to defeat an average South Florida team. Now they must travel to the DC area and face the Hoyas, who play solid defense at home. Look for Georgetown to win by 8 points and cover the number.

Northeastern -2

Our trap game on Saturday was Northeastern (-2) over Old Dominion (79-74). The number opened at -4, -4 ½ in stores out in Las Vegas. However, the public took the price down to the aforementioned close. With NE red hot and then traveling down to Virginia it appeared to some a possible reverse of current form. The Huskies have now won 11 of 12 (7-5 ATS), while Bill and Mary board tonight on a horrid 2-10 SU (4-8 ATS) streak. The Tribe shows after a decent effort late at James Madison, still losing 81-71. Again, at Madison the Tribe was hurt badly by their defense allowing 53.1% from the field. On the offensive end William & Mary contributed many possession changes with 19 turnovers. As head coach Tony Shaver mentioned, “ we can’t win giving the opposition easy looks at the basketball.” Amen, Tony, Amen! Although the UNDERDOG has shown positives spread numbers of late in the series, prefer the Huskies at the price considering the Tribe’s defense and their 3-7 ATS mark in conference.
