MLB Predictions

Los Angeles Dodgers -1.5

These two teams will play their second game of the series tonight following a Dodgers 3-1 win last night. That win moved the Dodgers up to 11-3 on the season and 5-3 on the road. The Astros are just 5-9 on the year and 3-4 at home after a 3-1 start the year (2-8 in their last 10). Tonight we have Cy Young winner Clayton Kershaw on the mound for the Dodgers. Kershaw has three no decisions on the year (leaving his first start with an illness after 3 innings of shutout ball). He has pitched 15.1 innings allowing just 4 earned runs striking out 13 and walking just 4. Last season he went 21-5 with a 2.28 ERA, 0.98 WHIP, and .207 opponents batting average. He is 2-1 with a 3.19 ERA vs the Astros lifetime. Kyle Weiland will make his third start of the season tonight looking for his first win. Weiland is 0-2 on the year with a 8.84 ERA as he has allowed 18 hits and 10 earned runs over just 10.2 innings of work. His WHIP is up to 2.25 and opponents batting average up at .375 over his two starts against Atlanta and Washington. Last season he was 0-3 with a 7.66 ERA, 1.66 WHIP, and .287 opponents batting average over his 5 starts and 7 total appearances with Boston. He hasn’t had easy tests in his first two games, and will now face a Dodgers line up lead by Matt Kemp who has 20 RBIs through just 14 games this season (including last night’s 3 for 3, 1 HR performance). Take note that the Dodgers are 10-1 in their last 11 vs a team with a winning % below .400, and 13-3 vs NL Central opponents. The Dodgers are also 38-15 in their last 53 overall dating back to last season, and 19-8 in their last 27 road games. The Dodgers are 20-6 in Kershaw’s last 26 starts, and 6-1 in his last 7 starts as a road favorite. Houston is just 38-81 in their last 119 overall, and 29-66 in their last 95 games as an underdog. Also note that the Dodgers have beaten the Astros in 5 straight meetings heading into tonight. Dodgers hot bats continue tonight vs a struggling pitcher and Kershaw should limit the damage on his end. Take the Dodgers by 2 or more.
