Furman -8

The Paladins have taken a serious leap forward this year in terms of talent and overall competitiveness. We're huge fans of Amu Saaka (6'6 senior forward) even though his numbers aren't quite as gaudy as they were earlier in the year. Noah States is clutch in the backcourt and the Paladins get better bench play than their opponents in this one.

The key for this game is the high proficiency of 3 point defense for Furman as they head into a game at Samford where the home team relies on the three very heavily as they are a weak team in terms of driving the ball into the lane or into kind of low post presence. Shut down their ball motion with quick rotations and contest threes - do those two things and you beat Samford nearly every time. Saaka is a beast that Samford won't have an answer for on the other end.

San Francisco +14.5

Even after going into Portland and beating the Pilots, the Dons are still not getting any respect - and that's ok with us. Its an indisputable fact that the Dons have been one of the best values on the board all year. 15-6 ATS for the season and 9-2 in WCC play. They weren't expected to be even mildly good and instead have simply been great (in the context of the WCC, obviously).

Having already beaten the Zags in overtime on their home floor, and to be coming off such an impressive win at Portland - you might expect the Dons to be primed for a fall here. If this line were closer to the 8-10 range, that argument could be made more convincingly. The truth is that the Zags are getting love here because of their reputation more than what the disappointingly mediocre season (by their own standards) they've notched so far. They were 14 point favorites to Santa Clara and could not contain Kevin Foster which led to a failure to cover. I have the Dons power ranked ahead of the Broncos and they are catching those same 14 points here with a hook. Asking the Zags to beat a hot team by 15 seems far-fetched.

Youngstown St. -3.5

The Penguins are 8-18 straight up. 8-5 at home and 0-13 on the road. Startling contrast and one that we get to take advantage of here.

As Horizon League play has worn on, the YSU level of competitiveness has increased leading them to recently cover games against Cleveland State and Wright State - not to mention their outright win at home against Butler. Here they get Bowling Green - a true team of streaks.

BG opened the season winning one game in November, then blistered through December and January and now has cooled off with their last win coming on the 2nd of February. I think that cold streak continues in this game.

We're backing the hotter team which happens to have the inferior record - another theme of our February run.

Boise St. +3

The WAC is better than the Big West - seems like an overly simplified way of looking at this game, right? The Gauchos make their living beating up on weak Big West teams. Admittedly, Orlando Johnson is having a great year but in this game they'll face a team that can more than match up with him.

Boise has rebounded from a tough stretch and is rounding back into form. Contributions from froshs Bropleh and Elorriaga in the last couple of games have given this team a much needed spark. Anderson, Arnold and Montreal will have a great game in this one as well. I see a BSU outright win.

N. Texas -14

We continue to fade the Warhawks on the road at almost any number. It worked out easily backing Denver and we look for more of the same here. ULM is simply one of the worst teams in D1 and on the road against a scoring machine like UNT - this is an easy play.

Providence Pk

There's been quite a bit of dysfunction in the Cincy clubhouse swirling around Yancy Gates. Suspended, then coming the bench, etc. All in all - not a happy camper and not playing well for much of February. The key here is that both teams are monster home/road splits. The Friars are 13-2 ATS at home - very similar to Cincy's 15-2 ATS mark at home. However, Cincy is only 5-4 on the road. Grabbing the Friars at home against an overrated road foe.

Washington vs. Arizona
Play: Arizona -2½

This is a great spot for Arizona and despite winning seven straight games, there is a good amount of value in this number. The Wildcats are 22-4 overall including an 11-2 record in the Pac Ten and they lead UCLA by a game and Washington by a game and a half. Arizona has yet to lose at home this season as it is 14-0 and this is easily the lowest number it has been favored by this season at the McKale Center. That is one of the big reasons the value in this short number is exceptional. Washington has been very streaky of late as it started conference action 7-1 then lost three in a row before coming back and winning its last three games. The Huskies have had their share of struggles on the road as they are 4-4 away from home in the Pac Ten and most recent, they are 1-3 with the lone victory coming on Thursday at last place Arizona St. Making matters worse for Washington is that it will most likely be without starting guard Scott Suggs who injured his knee in the game against the Sun Devils. The last time Arizona lost, it was back on January 20th and it happened to come against the Huskies in Seattle. The Wildcats lost that game by 17 points and no doubt have circled this game for payback. A loss here could take away a shot at the Pac Ten title as Arizona could be tied for first place at the end of the weekend with a trip to UCLA next Saturday and that is not a game they want to be in a must win spot. The home team has won the last eight meetings in this series and only a couple have been close. Arizona has covered six of its last seven games with the lone non-cover resulting in a push at California. The Wildcats have been outstanding as small favorites, going a perfect 6-0-1 when favored by 7.5 or fewer points. This is the second time all season Washington has been an underdog and while some will argue that is where the value lies, the first time resulted in a push as it lost at Texas A&M by a point. Additionally, the Huskies are 1-4 ATS in their last five road games against teams with a winning home record. 3* Arizona Wildcats

Virginia + over Virginia Tech

Virginia Tech appears to have nearly moved into a 'lock' status for the NCAA tournament after missing the tournament the last three years as a borderline case. Wins over Oklahoma State and Penn State helped the cause on the non-conference slate but with a few tough games remaining another late season slide is not out of the question. After a big home win over Maryland earlier in the week it may be tough to get full motivation for a trip to rival Virginia, a team that has been struggling. Virginia beat Virginia Tech in early December in a rare early conference clash and while the Cavaliers have lost eight of the last ten games the home losses in that span have come against North Carolina, Maryland, and Duke. Virginia has home wins over Georgia Tech and Clemson and this should be the biggest game left on the schedule for the Cavaliers in what has been a disappointing season. Despite the losing, Virginia is 11-4 ATS in the last 15 games and the home team has won outright in seven of the last ten meetings between these teams. In the three instances in that span where the road team won, two wins came in overtime and Virginia's win in Blacksburg earlier this season came by just three points so another close game should be expected. Virginia is 6-3 ATS at home for the season and Virginia Tech is 3-4 S/U on the road. Look for a serious battle in this rivalry game as these teams should play closer than the overall records project and there will be value on the home underdog.

Utah vs New Mexico
Take: Under

Utah is not a great offensive team, shooting .433% as a team while riding a 5-2 run under the total. The Under is 4-1 in the Utes last 5 road games and 8-0 under the total in the Utes last 8 Saturday games. New Mexico plays its best defense at home and the Under is 4-1 in the Lobos last 5 home games vs. a team with a road winning percentage of less than .400. Plus the under is 22-8 in the Lobos last 30 games following a S.U. loss. Look for a defensive battle in the Mountain West, Play Utah/New Mexico Under the total.

San Francisco at Gonzaga
Prediction: San Francisco

Plenty of line value with the road underdog here, especially for a San Francisco team that has already beaten Gonzaga outright as a ten-point underdog earlier this year. And SF always seems to play the Zags tough, as they have covered four straight in this series with two outright wins as dogs. Gonzaga already has four losses at home this year and isn't the normal Gonzaga team we have come to know in years past. Way too many points and we'll back the road side here tonight! 5* Play on San Francisco.

Northwestern vs. Indiana U
Play: Northwestern +3

Northwestern has won every game this season vs teams ranked higher than 100 in the RPI Rankings and they are a solid 21-4 vs losing teams the past few years. They are a live dog here against an Indiana team that is 5-12 vs winning teams and just 7-17 when playing with revenge. The Wildcats are 4-1 when playing with 1 or less day of rest and The Hoosiers have lost 8 of the last 9 when the total is 140 to 150. Look for Northwestern to get the cash here tonight.

BIG AL

Michigan State vs Penn State
PICK: Michigan State -2.5

Tom Izzo's men had failed to cover nine straight games going into their home game against Penn State on February 10. The Spartans ripped the Nittany Lions 75-57 in that game, and then followed that up with a pointspread win at Ohio State earlier this week. We had a big play on Michigan St. in that game and, although the Spartans lost the game straight-up, 71-61, as a 12-point underdog, they played extremely well, and shot over 57% from the floor. And that was the second straight game that the Spartans shot over 50%, as they converted 52.4% vs. Penn State in their 18-point win. Let's play on MSU here at home tonight, as it has revenge from a nine-point loss to the Illini earlier this season, and MSU is a solid 24-10 ATS at home when playing with revenge from a same-season defeat. Lay the small number with the Spartans.

Boston College +11.5

The North Carolina Tar Heels are getting way too much respect from odds makers Saturday. The Boston College Eagles will give UNC a run for their money as a double-digit road underdog this afternoon. BC is only getting outscored on the road by 0.5 PPG so they have been very competitive away from home.

BC is 82-51 ATS in road games since 1997. The Eagles are 24-11 ATS in road games revenging a home loss vs opponent since 1997. UNC is 0-8 ATS in home games after leading their last 3 games by 5+ points at the half over the last 3 seasons. The Tar Heels are 7-19 ATS in home games after 1 or more consecutive wins over the last 3 seasons. Bet Boston College Saturday.

1 Unit on Arizona Wildcats -2.5

The Wildcats are rolling, having won 7 in a row, and they aren't about to let their guard down in this revenge spot. Arizona will take great pleasure in crushing a Washington squad that won the season's first meeting 85-68. The Cats have been tough to tame at home, where they are a perfect 14-0 this season. They haven't had much trouble at home against Washington either, winning the last 4 home meetings in the series by an average of 17.8 points. Washington's road struggles haven't just come against the Wildcats. The Huskies are just 5-7 in all games away from home this season. The Wildcats are 4-0-1 ATS in their last 5 games as a favorite of 6.5 points or less while the Huskies are 2-6-1 ATS in their last 9 games as an underdog of 6.5 or fewer points. Motivated by the butt-kicking it received at Washington, expect Arizona to have its revenge Saturday.

Info Plays

3* Oregon State +7.5

Reasons why Oregon State will cover:

1) Play against - home favorites of 3.5 to 9.5 points (Oregon) - off a win over a conference rival as an underdog of 6 points or more against opponent off a road loss, as its 28-8 over the last 5 seasons.

2) Oregon State is 22-9 ATS when playing against a team with a winning record over the last 2 seasons.

3) Oregon is just 3-16 ATS in home games after 2 or more consecutive unders since 1997.

Texas A&M vs. Oklahoma State
Play: Oklahoma State -2

An ESPNU audience watches an on fire at home Oklahoma St. (11-1) vs. Big 12 conference rival #17 Texas A+M (4-2 on the road) on Saturday from Gallagher Arena in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Trust me when I say there will be more than just bragging rights on the line. A&M coach Mark Turgeon didn’t expect his team to win 69-51 over Oklahoma State to open Big 12 Conference play on Jan. 13 and he's getting a revenge minded Cowboys team all fired up on Saturday. Oklahoma State leads the all-time series, 30-15. But Texas A&M has won seven of the last 11 meetings. Oklahoma St. has lost its past two games on the road, but has defended Gallagher Arena all season I expect more of the same. A victory by OSU would allow them to hold onto slim tourney hopes, as it ends the season playing Texas Tech, Baylor and OU. Some trends I like include OKLST are 38-13-2 ATS in their last 53 home games. Aggies are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games overall. Aggies are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 vs. Big 12. Aggies are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games following a S.U. win. Cowboys are 9-4-1 ATS in their last 14 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of greater than .600. Cowboys are 10-3-1 ATS in their last 14 home games vs. a team with a winning road record.

Indiana -2.5 over Northwestern

In the latest of a succession of bad signs, 'Cats could barely put Iowa away -- with the Hawkeyes away from home! 'Cats have done well against Hoosiers since their recent decline, but Tom Crean's gleaning much-better performances from his troops in recent weeks, and a revenge win appears to be in the cards at Assembly Hall!

EZWINNERS

UNC Tar Heels -11.5

Boston College and North Carolina both have pretty good offensive teams, but the Tar Heels get it done most of the time on the defensive end of the court and that can not be said for the Golden Eagles. North Carolina went into Chestnut Hill and won convincingly against Boston College in the first meeting and I don't expect the Heels to struggle at home this year where they are undefeated this season. North Carolina has a huge advantage with their length in the paint and I expect them to own the boards in this game.
