Marc Lawrence

Louisville at Syracuse
Prediction: Louisville

This week’s Big East feeding frenzy continues as Quick Rick Pitino and his Cardinals invade upstate New York for the season’s final game at the Carrier Dome. The ‘Cuse edged Louisville, 52-51, at the KFC Yum! Center, and U of L’s head coach stands 3-1 ATS with same-season home loss revenge (3-0 the last three). For your reading pleasure, let’s take a trip back in the archives. There’s been only one game in his career where Pitino has had same-season revenge from a loss of 1-point exact, back in his days with Kentucky when he suffered a 78-77 loss to Tennessee in ’93. He went on to avenge that nip-job to the tune of 101-40 later that season! The ‘Ville has also been a genuine spoiler in foes’ Last Home Games, grabbing the cash in five straight contests. The Orange have had a full week off since edging Connecticut and they’ve proved to be a lethargic favorite in this role, going 2-5 ATS with four or more days rest in Last Home Games. Syracuse's February 25 victory over Connecticut may have been the first ever for the Orange in Gampel Pavilion but they continue to leave money on the table with a 3-8 ATS run, including four straight losses. Recent series history confirms that Louisville should extend the hosts’ pointspread losing streak to five: the Cardinals are 7-0-1 ATS in the last eight meetings with the Cuse while Boeheim’s bunch is a woeful 0-6 ATS off a win versus Louie. The kicker is the Ville's 5-0 ATS mark as a visitor against teams playing in Last Home Games. We seldom get a dog backed by such good numbers, so we won’t hesitate to pull the trigger here. After a spate of narrow escapes, the clock finally chimes midnight for the Orange. We recommend a 1-unit play on Louisville.

Matt Fargo

Arkansas @ Mississippi State
PICK: Mississippi State

Mississippi St. was pretty close to getting eliminated from NCAA Tournament discussions but it was able to win in overtime at South Carolina on Wednesday and keep its hopes for an at-large berth alive. Now the Bulldogs head home for what is essentially another must win game as another bad loss could do them in. Mississippi St. is 7-8 in the SEC this season and it could certainly do good with a .500 record heading into the SEC Tournament where a coupler wins there won't hurt either.

Arkansas meanwhile is not in the hunt for an NCAA Tournament berth so this game doesn't mean much to the Razorbacks. They just had their Senior Night on Tuesday and blew a 15-point lead with 13 minutes left and lost to Mississippi so they are still going to be looking back at that. There was a cause for celebration last Saturday with their win at Auburn as it was their first road win of the season so the goal of not staying winless away from home has been achieved. Arkansas is just 1-8 on the road this season.

The win over the Gamecocks snapped a five-game losing streak for Mississippi St. and it certainly came at the right time as a win here will provide at least some momentum heading into the conference tournament. While the losing streak was a tough one to take, it may not have been that surprising as the first one came at home against Georgia in overtime and the other against Kentucky. The win over South Carolina ended a string of four road games over their last five contests.

Mississippi St. has been pretty good defensively this season but it had one horrible game where it allowed 98 points on 56.5 percent shooting. That game came against Arkansas so the Bulldogs will be ready to make up for that effort. The Bulldogs have won 11 straight games against Arkansas at Humphrey Coliseum, currently the longest streak against any one SEC foe. The Bulldogs will be honoring three players on Senior Night so the home atmosphere will set up nicely for a comfortable win.

Chip Chirimbes

North Carolina vs. Duke
Play: North Carolina

This is why we look college basketball, here are two of the hugest rivals entering their final game tied for the conference regular season title at 13-2 and both with identical over all records of 26-4. Blue Devils have won the last two and five of the last six meetings and have won their last seven games. So, why so little respect, a pick em at home where they should be at least 3-point favorites no matter who they are playing. Overall, the Tar Heels are bigger and deeper and they can stay out of foul trouble tonight they win.

Wyoming vs. UNLV
Play: UNLV -10

UNLV is off an embarrassing road loss, blowing a 16-point lead, but now they come home. They won't be in a good mood and face a Wyoming club that is 0-4 ATS in their last 4 road games. UNLV is a perfect 16-0 at home this season and the Runnin' Rebels are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 home games. Look for a huge bounce back effort by the home team. Play UNLV!

North Carolina Tar Heels -1

The Tar Heels have not lost since their 84-85 loss at home to these Blue Devils on "The Shot" by freshmen guard Austin Rivers. UNC let that game slip away, but I like them to get some payback in this game. The road team is 8-2 against the spread in the last ten games and the Blue Devils are on a 1-7 slide against the spread at home in their last eight games. Play on Carolina.

Vegas Experts

Minnesota Timberwolves at Portland Trail Blazers
Play: Portland Trail Blazers

Pretty brutal scheduling spot for the visiting T'wolves, who play on the road for the fourth time in five nights. Here, they'll find an angry Portland team that has opened the second half w/ consecutive SU/ATS losses. But the Blazers are a much better team at home where they are 13-6 SU averaging better than 104 PPG. They have already beaten Minnesota by 14 on the road last month, upping their mark to 8-0 SU/7-1 ATS their last eight meetings with their division rivals.

Ben Burns

Mighty Ducks @ Kings
PICK: Under 5.5

Plenty of reasons to consider the "under" here. The Kings have seen the "under" go 37-13-14 on the season. The 14 "pushes" were all games that finished with five goals. So, 51 of their 64 games have finished with five or fewer goals. Their games are averaging only 4.3 goals on the season. That number dips to 4.0 here at LA.

The Kings, who are off a 4-0 shutout win on 2/28, have seen the "under" go 7-0 the last seven times they were off a shutout. The "under" is also 10-1-3 the last 14 times that they were off a win of two or more goals. Additionally, the "under" is 13-3-3 the last 19 times that they played with three or more day's rest in between games.

The Ducks saw last night's game vs. Calgary finish with a score of 3-2. They've now seen 10 straight games produce five or fewer combined goals. With seven of the Ducks' last eight visits here also having stayed below the total, consider "laying the wood" with the "under 5.5" goals.

Joseph D'Amico

North Carolina vs. Duke
Play: North Carolina

Let's talk about the biggest matchup on Saturdays card in North Carolina @ Duke. This is the game that decides who takes the crown in the ACC. Both teams are 13-2 in Conference play and 26-4 overall. But Duke right now is the top seed in next week's Conference Tourney and they are in line for the #1 regional seed in the Big Show. But that can all change with a North Carolina win here. In their first meeting, Zeller accidentally tipped in a Blue Devil's shot late in the game then missed 2 Free Throws with under a minute left. On the final second of the game, Rivers hit a 3-pointer to give Duke an 85-84 win. North Carolina blew a 10-point lead. That doesn't sit well with this unit. In that game Duke hit 14 from beyond the arc. (That ain't going to happen again). With all those factors, they still barely eked by. When the Tar Heels lost Strickland in January, there were doubts, but Roy Williams' squad won 11 of their L12 SU. Barnes, Zeller, and Henson are big, strong, and deadly. They match up well with Plumlee, Kelly, Curry, and Rivers. I expect the erratic Blue Devil's defense to once again have trouble with Barnes. I look for the Forward to score at will like he did in the first matchup when he lit up Coach K's boys for 24 points. North Carolina has more strength down low and the far superior stop unit. Don't forget about the revenge factor here, either. The road team is 8-2 ATS their L10 meetings. The Tar Heels are 5-1 ATS their L6 games played at the Blue Devil's and the Blue Devils are 1-7 ATS their L8 games played at home. I like North Carolina here.

Rob Vinciletti

Eastern Michigan vs. Toledo
Play: Eastern Michigan +5

EMU is 11-3 vs teams that shoot less than 40% while Toledo is 0-5 when shooting less than 40%. This is interesting since Toledo has shot less than 40% in the last 6 meetings between these two. Toledo is 0-3 ats as a home favorite of -3.5 to -6 and has dropped 7 of 11 vs losing teams and are 1-9 straight up when the total is 119 or less. EMU is 6-0 straight up and ats in the series and 11-4 ats in conference play. In games off a win vs a conference opponent they are 6-2. Look for Eastern Michigan to continue their dominance over Toledo today. Take Eastern Michigan.

Louisville vs Syracuse
Pick: Louisville

Syracuse has had a great campaign and could well end up as one of the last teams standing. But Louisville will be very fired up for this challenge and I believe the Cardinals are good enough to be very competitive today. I'll grab the substantial points with the Louisville side.

Free CBB release for 3/3: Villanova +2.5 over Cincinnati. The Wildcats are showing good value here as a home dog. Nova has won by an average of 16 points/game the last three times they've hosted the Bearcats. They've also cashed at the window in the last four meetings, including as a 9 point dog in Cincinnati earlier this year. While this isnt the same Villanova squad of the last couple of years, they are still 9-6 SU at home where they're averaging 75.8 points/game. Cincinnati's defense is suspect on the road, they allow opponents to too many high percentage shots. Home teams have been dropping 45.3% of their shots against the Bearcats. Although they have a slight winning percentage away from home (6-5), they're only outscoring road opponents to 1/2 point/game. Statistically, the Wildcats outscore and outrebound Cincinatti. They also hold more talent on the bench, and outscore their visitors by 6.6 points/game. We'll side with the home dog here, Villanova +2.5. Our free plays are 170-91-1 (65%) all-time. Sharky Sports

Cincinnati -1

Really like Cincinnati here coming off a heart-breaking loss at USF followed by an enormous win at Marquette to keep their tournament hopes alive. Now they head to Villanova, who has been very inconsistent all year. We will definitely get the best effort by both teams here on the eve of the Big East tournament, however Nova has struggled the whole year against long, athletic, defensive-minded clubs like Cincy. Cincinnati has an edge down low, and unless Waynes and the Nova guards are really hot from outside, I think Cincinnati will control the tempo throughout and take care of business on the road.

Sports Wagers

Toronto +110 over MONTREAL

The Maple Leafs six-game losing streak didn't cost Ron Wilson his job. Ron Wilson, with his sarcasm, arrogance and stubbornness to play James Reimer cost him his job. The Maple Leafs are not a bad hockey team. They've dominated a lot of good teams this season when their heads were on straight and they're certainly better than the Canadiens. Randy Carlyle is a one goaltender coach. He's likely going to give Jonas Gustavsson the deserving #1 status and under those conditions, Gustavsson can play well. The firing of Wilson was inevitable. The Leafs can relax a bit now and get back to playing hockey the way they are capable of. The first game under a new coach angle comes into play here. Meanwhile, the Habs aren't going so well either. They have one win in their past six games, a lone victory against the reeling Wild in OT. Since December 13, Minnesota has the NHL's worst record. In its previous five losses, Montreal scored two or less goals in all of them for a total of five goals in five games. Montreal favored over anyone not named Minnesota is true value. Expect a huge effort from the Buds here Play: Toronto +110 (Risking 2 units).

CAROLINA -½ +115 over Tampa Bay

Sometimes the line dictates the play and this is one of those times. The money line has the Hurricanes -141. How can that be? The Lightning are five points ahead of the Canes in the standings and they've won three in a row. Not only have they won three straight but they defeated both New Jersey and the Rangers. Those are two top-tiered clubs and now they're taking back a tag like this against this non-playoff team? Last time they played here on Novemeber 11, Carolina was -111 and back in October when they met for the first time this season, the game was a pick-em. So forget stats, standings and everything else. Nobody in their right is going to lay -141 on Carolina to beat Tampa Bay. The oddsmakers have made this line so high for a reason and it's not a mistake. The Bolts win last night over the Rangers saw them come from 2-0 down to take a 3-2 lead before the Rangers tied it late to send it to OT. The Bolts scored two minutes in and the celebration began. It was an emotional win and one in which the Lightning played like it was game 7 of a playoff series. Expect a no-show tonight. The line says so. Play: Carolina -½ +115 (Risking 2 units).

St. Louis +104 over SAN JOSE Pinnacle

Playing its third game in four days, tail end of back-to-backs and fifth game in seven days, all on the road, St. Louis went into Vancouver on Thursday night and were tied 0-0 going to the third. The Canucks scored early in the period and added an empty netter to hang on for a 2-0 win. Most teams could not have put forth an effort like that under those conditions. The Blues outshot Vancouver 29-24. This Blue Note team hates to lose. They play as hard and as sound for 60 minutes as any team in the league. With one day’s rest and coming off a loss, they're as dangerous as anyone. The Blues are also in the Sharks kitchen, as they've beaten San Jose all three games this season and outscored them 8-2. In two of those three games, the Sharkies were shutout. San Jose has cruised through the regular season for years with no danger whatsoever of missing the playoffs. Come playoff time, when the chips are down, they bow out quietly every season. This is unfamiliar territory, as they battle for a playoff spot. Right now they're in seventh spot, just three points ahead of the Kings. With a poor defense and inconsistent goaltending, San Jose is in serious jeopardy of missing the playoffs altogether and for the first time in a long time, they'll be playing under pressure in March. This is a soft team playing under unfamiliar pressure and the Blue Notes are probably the last team they want to see right now. Play: St. Louis +104 (Risking 2 units).
