Illinois Fighting Illini +1
The Minnesota Golden Gophers have lost three straight games have been turning the ball over against pressuring defenses at an alarming rate. The Gophers have had more turnovers than assists in each of their last two losses to Indiana and Ohio State and also continue to have problems at the defensive end of the floor and also have been very poor at the free throw line. Illinois is 7-3 against the spread in their last ten games as a road underdog and 11-4 against the spread in the last fifteen meetings between these two teams. Play on Illinois.

Tonight in East Lansing I think we're going to see a ticked off Spartans team. The Spartans’ last two losses have been embarrassing – Sunday 82-56 @ Wisconsin, and 72-52 at Iowa last Wednesday. Tonight they get a less than average PSU team. The Lions have fallen off the NCAA Tournament bubble by losing their last 2 games and 4 of 6 with an RPI that has dropped from the mid-40s to No. 69. MSU will have revenge on their minds here too. The Lions topped the Spartans 66-62 on Jan. 8. However Michigan State is 17-1 in East Lansing against Penn State. This game presents an opportunity for Michigan St. to right the ship, and Izzo will have his troops fired up. The Spartans begin a brutal four-game stretch at No. 1 Ohio State on Tuesday. Some trends I like for this one include. Nittany Lions are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 Thursday games. Nittany Lions are 2-11 ATS in their last 13 games as a road underdog of 0.5-6.5. Finally the Spartans are 9-2 at home, and have outscored teams by a 74.3 to 62.3 margin at home.

Certainly the Michigan State Spartans have not lived up to expectations after coming into the season ranked No. 2 in the AP Poll. But it's time to hop on board as Tom Izzo always has his teams playing their best down the stretch. And because of the Spartans' struggles, the betting public is off of them which is providing us with some nice line value tonight. Getting MSU as a mere 6-point home favorite over Penn State is an absolute gift here. The Nittany Lions did beat MSU 66-62 at home in their first meeting this season, but the Spartans are 23-10 ATS (+12.0 Units) revenging a same season loss vs opponent since 1997. Penn State is just 1-6 on the road this season while Michigan State is 9-2 at home, outscoring opponents by 12.0 points/game. East Lansing remains a very tough place for any team to play, and that has been the case in this series. MSU is 9-1 in their last 10 home meetings with PSU. Penn State has not been good at all in the role of a small road underdog, and that's indicated by the following trend. The Nittany Lions are 2-11 ATS in their last 13 games as a road underdog of 0.5-6.5. Take Michigan State and lay the points.
