Oklahoma City Thunder at Denver Nuggets
Pick: Denver Nuggets

Oklahoma City has an edge on many teams by running and gunning, but Denver isn't one of them, an uptempo offensive team in the thin, Denver mountain air. Oklahoma City has been short-handed and comes off a 112-101 loss to Utah. Without Russell Westbrook and Serge Ibaka, Kevin Durant took the ball nearly every possession in the fourth quarter. Westbrook is out with a knee injury and Ibaka didn't dress because of flu-like symptoms. The Thunder is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 after scoring 100 points or more in their previous game. Denver is getting it together and has been home all week, off a blowout win over Boston, 129-98. Randy Foye connected on seven 3-pointers and the Nuggets are 15-5-1 ATS in their last 21 games following a win of more than 10 points. The Nuggets are also 35-16-1 ATS in their last 52 home games vs. a team with a winning road record and 10-1 ATS in their last 11 home games vs. a team with a road winning percentage of greater than .600. Oklahoma City hasn't played well against Denver, 1-4 ATS in the last 5 meetings.

The Miami Heat seem to get off to a slow start more than any team in the league. Furthermore, when they are playing an inferior opponent they have developed a bad habit of playing down to the competition. The Knicks have somehow won 3 in a row and 5 of 6. Playing at MSG used to be something, but it means nothing to the Miami Heat. They'll "flip the switch" in the 2nd Half (if necessary) but the 1st half should be exhibition of going through the motions at it's finest.

Tonight our Super System Play comes from the college hardwood set to tipoff at 10:00PM Eastern Time. We want to Play ON CBB teams following a game where they held their opponent under 35.3 percent shooting while they shot 40 to 47.5 percent from the field and did not commit seven or more turnovers than their opponent. This system has a record of 20-8 ATS the last twenty-eight qualifying contests. Play ASU minus the points

INSTEAD OF LEACHING OFF OTHERS WORK GO GET IT YOURSELF VIKESFAG
Detroit Red Wings vs. San Jose Sharks
Play: Detroit Red Wings +162
INSTEAD OF LEACHING OFF OTHERS WORK GO GET IT YOURSELF VIKESFAG
The Wings will be in San Jose Thursday night, taking on their Western Conference rival Sharks. These teams know each other very well, and they have a history of playing close games, with four of the last five meetings requiring added time to decide a winner.
INSTEAD OF LEACHING OFF OTHERS WORK GO GET IT YOURSELF VIKESFAG
Detroit has battled through injuries during the first half of the season, but the good news for the Wings is that Henrik Zetterberg and Jimmy Howard are back, and both players have made an immediate impact.
INSTEAD OF LEACHING OFF OTHERS WORK GO GET IT YOURSELF VIKESFAG
Zetterberg scored twice in Detroit's 5-1 win in Dallas, and he's scored three goals and six points in just four games since returning to the lineup. Howard stood on his head in Dallas, stopping 44-of-45 shots.
INSTEAD OF LEACHING OFF OTHERS WORK GO GET IT YOURSELF VIKESFAG
The Sharks are coming off a loss to Nashville on the road Tuesday, and they have also been bitten by the injury bug. Already without Tomas Hertl for the rest of the season, they learned that Logan Couture will require surgery on a broken hand. He's scored 14 goals and 35 points so far this season, and it's going to be tough to replace that kind of production.
INSTEAD OF LEACHING OFF OTHERS WORK GO GET IT YOURSELF VIKESFAG
These are two teams moving in opposite directions, and with San Jose coming in as the big favorite, I think the smart play here is on Detroit as a dog.

A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court? How about an Indiana Hoosier in Pauley Pavilion? Yes, just 10 days after agreeing to (but not signing) a 10-year deal with New Mexico, Alford jumped ship and cost his new employers a hefty $625,000 buyout. Plus, if either UCLA or Alford ends the arrangement in less than three years, the offending party will have to pony up an incredible $10.4 million! Didn’t Steve know that former Bruins HC Ben Howland was fired last year just a few months after winning his 4th Pac-12 title? Regardless, the heat is certainly on the former Indiana star (now into his 19th season as a Division 1 head coach), and Alford’s current pointspread history does not bode well for today’s matchup: he’s gone just 2-5-2 ATS versus avenging undefeated foes (Bruins bounced Wildcats from last year’s conference tournament), including 0-4 SUATS the last four. Meanwhile, unbeaten Arizona counters with a solid 4-1 ATS away from Tucson when playing with Pac-12 Last Tournament Knockout revenge. The Cats are also a strong 7-3 ATS in lined games at press time and they catch the Bruins off a date with hated rival USC – and UCLA has lost the money in five straight games after tangling with the Trojans. Better crank up the AC, Steve… it’s about to get hotter. We recommend a 1-unit play on Arizona.

Arizona is 15-0 (2-0 in Pac 12 play), giving the Wildcats their best start since the 1931-32 team opened 16-0. Defense has been the key, with the Wildcats limiting opponents to 54.9 PPG (3rd) on 36.6 percent shooting (6th). However, the nation's No. 1 team visits Pauley Pavilion tonight to take on the UCLA Bruins, a team which beat them in all THREE meetings last year.

Steve Alford's Bruins are 12-2, including 1-0 in Pac 12 play, after crushing USC 107-73 this past Sunday. The Bruins shot 57.7 percent and made 11 of 23 three-pointers in their highest-scoring regular-season conference game since a 116-110 double-overtime loss at Stanford in 1987. UCLA has had little trouble running its offense to open this season, ranking among the nation's leaders with 87.1 PPG (6th) on 52.7 percent shooting (1st) while hitting 40.7 percent of three-pointers (22nd).

Johnson (16.0) leads Arizona in scoring and teams with PG McConnell (6.4-6.2 APG) in the starting backcourt. Gordon is a 6-9 freshman averaging 12.4 & 8.0 and joins the 6-8 Ashley (11.9-6.8) plus the 7-0 Tarczewski (9.9-6.5) in the starting frontcourt. Only two players have played important roles off the bench, 6-7 freshman Hollis-Jefferson (8.4-5.1) and guard York (7.2).

UCLA's big perimeter people gave Arizona fits last year and while Shabazz Muhammad is gone, the 6-9 Anderson (15.1-8.9-6.6) and the 6-5 Adams (18.7-5.0) are back leading the Bruins this year. The 6-10 Wear twins also start, David (7.6-4.5) and Travis (5.9-2.4), along with a third guard, Powell (11.0). Coming off the bench are 6-5 freshman guard LaVine (12.4), Alford's son Kory (7.8), who followed his dad from New Mexico and is also a guard, plus the 6-9 Parker (7.6-5.6).

UCLA's big backcourt caused all sorts of problems for the Wildcats a year ago and I expect the Bruins to once again wreak havoc with Sean Miller's defense. No. 1 loses its first game.

San Francisco is 15-1 to the spread on the road if they were favored in their last game and has played well covering in 15 of 19 in Conference games off a win. In the Month of January they are 14 5 ats. San Francisco is off a pair of solid wins and travels to Pacific for this game. Pacific has lost and failed to cover 5 of the last 7 vs winning teams and 5 of the last 6 off 3+ losses. In their last 2 games they have struggled from the field shooting under 40%. We will back San Francisco here tonight.

Though Louisville has turned in a couple of 'dud' performances so far when taking on top tier teams, I think a return home is going to do them some good tonight when they renew acquaintances w/ Memphis. This will be the Cardinals' first home game in some time, since December 17th to be exact. In nine home games so far, they have outscored foes by an average of 30.9 points per game.

They have also beaten Memphis four straight times, including each of the last two years.

Memphis is coming off an outright loss at home to Cincinnati, 69-53 as 5.5-point favorites on Saturday. Unfortunately, I was one game too early in going against the Tigers when I played South Florida on New Year's Eve. This will only be their third "true" road game of the season, the first being a 101-80 loss at Oklahoma State, another time where I played against them. Memphis is beating its foes by an average of 12 points less per game than is Louisville this season, so I feel that laying the points is justified.

Miami Heat at New York Knicks
Play: New York Knicks +6.5

The Miami Heat have their hand fulls with the Knicks this season and today will be no different. Carmelo is averaging over 38 points per game against them the last four times they faced. Look for the Knicks to stay close and cover the 6.5.

This is conference play and I like HC Herb Sendek and his Arizona State Sundevils team to win this game and cover the spread convincingly. After a shaky start to begin the season, Arizona State has begun to tighten up and play some tough defense. Over the last 5 games, they are holding opponents to 37.6% shooting from the floor, while outscoring their opponents by an average of 15 ppg. Arizona State is led by Jahii Carson who can take over a game when ever needed. I have been watching Carson play since his freshman year, and the kid is special. There is not a weakness in is his game. They have also been enjoying the services of Penn State transfer, Jermaine Marshall, which now give Arizona State one of the top backcourts in the PAC 12. Marshall is a team leader as well that has experience. He graduated from Penn State already so he is a 5th year senior and his experience will be an advantage on playing on the road. I saw this guy put up 29 points last year vs. Michigan State and he can flat out play. In the paint, Arizona State has Jordan Bachynski who is leading the nation in blocked shots at 4.9 ppg. These are 3 future NBA draft picks in my opinion with Carson, Marshall, and Bchynski, and they are a solid foundation to let the role players of Gilling and McKissic do their thing.

For USC, they have first year coach Andy Enfeld. Enfeld is known for his 'Dunk City' style of play at Fla. International last year. Sure, this might be an exciting team to watch, but the talent simply is not there this year. They have a few athletic guards but these guys cannot shot from the perimeter and that will hurt them in this game. USC also lacks the talent in the paint and Bachynski will control this game down low tonight.

In closing I will use the stats from the last 5 games of both teams and you will see Arizona State has the clear advantage tonight as they are 7-8 points better than USC.

Records can be very misleading for many teams as conference play gets underway. I believe we have a classic example of this tonight as Hawaii pays a visit to Cal Poly in Big West action.
INSTEAD OF LEACHING OFF OTHERS WORK GO GET IT YOURSELF VIKESFAG
The Rainbow Warriors have roared out of the starting gate at 11-3. However, all but one those wins have been on the islands, where Hawaii enjoys a huge home court edge thanks to the travel factor that puts visitors at a big disadvantage.
INSTEAD OF LEACHING OFF OTHERS WORK GO GET IT YOURSELF VIKESFAG
Cal Poly is limping home with a 4-9 ledger. The Mustangs have taken their lumps thanks to a bad case of overscheduling. This team has played the ninth toughest schedule in all of D-1. That’s not just ambitious, it’s basketball hell for a team out of the Big West.
INSTEAD OF LEACHING OFF OTHERS WORK GO GET IT YOURSELF VIKESFAG
The good news for the Mustangs is they’re finally back home and they get to start fresh as they open conference play. This was a good Big West entry last season at 12-6, and the key components from that squad are back. They’re also a well coached squad and now that league play has returned, look for Joe Callero to dig into his bag of defensive tricks on a regular basis.
INSTEAD OF LEACHING OFF OTHERS WORK GO GET IT YOURSELF VIKESFAG
Hawaii has really struggled over the years making its first trip to the conference mainland. Maybe this edition of the Warriors has enough to overcome that long term vulnerability, but they’re going to have to prove it to me.
INSTEAD OF LEACHING OFF OTHERS WORK GO GET IT YOURSELF VIKESFAG
I see the number being a solid indicator tonight. 11-3 with a couple of impressive wins visiting 4-9 with some lopsided losses and the 4-9 team is favored. Cal Poly should start to improve on that record moving forward and I like their chances of grabbing a win tonight. I’ll spot the short line with the Mustangs.

Jimmy Boyd

California +9

The Ducks are a poor team defensively, and that will make it hard to cover such a large spread against the Golden Bears. Cal is averaging 74.2 points per game this season, and they come into this matchup with a respectable 10-4 record. The Bears have won four of their last five games, including a seven point road win against Stanford in their last outing. The Ducks on the other hand are coming off a loss to Colorado, a game in which they allowed the Buffaloes to put up 100 points.

The Golden Bears are 9-3 ATS in their last 12 games when playing against a team that has won 60 percent or more of their games. The Ducks on the other hand come into this matchup with a 4-13-1 ATS record in their last 18 games against Pac-12 opponents. They are also 1-6 ATS following a loss which is a sign of a mentally fragile team. I think Cal has a good chance to give Oregon a scare in this matchup. Their defense is allowing just 66.4 points per game, and staying within nine-points against the soft Oregon defense should be an easy task to accomplish.
