The Hornets lost a close game in L.A. last night to the Lakers, and they play on back to back nights on the road in Sacramento tonight. They got a scare in the final seconds of the fourth quarter, as PG Greivis Vasquez rolled his ankle while driving to the hoop with under 30 seconds to play.
Vasquez missed a couple games at the end of March with an ankle injury, and it may be an ongoing issue.

The Kings haven't played since Sunday, suffering a loss at home to Memphis by a score of 89-87. They have lost four in a row at home, and with just two home games remaining on their schedule, tonight's game might be their best chance to get a win in front of the home crowd.

The Hornets have really struggled in Sacramento over the years, with a record of 2-14-1 in their last 17 visits.

DeMarcus cousins could be in for a big night, he's averaged over 20 points and 11 rebounds in his last six against the Hornets.

The Hornets fought hard last night, pushing the Lakers to the brink. I really can't see them bringing that same level of intensity tonight, playing on back to back nights, possibly without their starting PG.

The home team getting the points is the smart play in this game. The Lakers are allowing 104.7 points per game on the road this season. They have an embarrassing 15-25 straight up road record and an even worse 14-26 ATS record on the road. The Portland defense is holding opponents to 98.3 points per game at home and scoring 99.5 per game. Against this soft Lakers defense they should have no problem outpacing their average.
FOR THE LARGEST SELECTION OF FREE SERVICE PLAYS VISIT THESPREAD.COM
The Lakers are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 road games and they are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games against teams from the Northwest Division. They are playing in a back to back situation where they are 1-4 ATS on 0 days of rest. In head to head meetings between these teams the home team owns a 5-2 ATS advantage. Another advantage going Portland’s direction is the fact that the Lakers are 4-18 ATS in the last 22 games being played at Portland. Take the home team and the points as the Lakers should struggle in this one.

This matchup plays perfectly into a situation when you want to play on the under. Denver is 10-1 to the under against good shooting teams that are making 48% or more of their shots over the last three seasons. San Antonio is 13-5 to the under against teams outscoring their opponents by three or more points per game. Denver has gone under the total in six of their last eight games while San Antonio has gone under in four of their last five. This should be a low scoring game.

NHL Predictions

Toronto / New York Over 5

The Leafs and Rangers have met twice this season, including Monday night in Toronto. The first meeting of the season was a 5-2 New York home victory, and on Monday the Maple Leafs won 4-3 in Toronto. Dating back to 2011 the Leafs and Rangers have scored 6+ goals in 6 of their last 7 meetings. The Leafs have scored 3+ goals in 9 of their last 11 games. The Rangers have scored 18 goals over their past 5 games (3.6 goals per game) with the OVER going 3-1-1. Take note that the OVER is 13-5-3 in the Leafs last 21 overall, and 25-8 in their last 33 vs Atlantic division opponents. The OVER is 16-5 in these two teams last 21 meetings in New York to go along with the 6-1 in their last 7 h2h meetings. Both teams are having little problems scoring goals lately and their two meetings so far this season have each had 7 goals scored. I like the OVER 5 here tonight.

Miami is 0-4 against left handed pitching this year. This is just a bad baseball team. The Braves are the best team in the National League. This is about as high as you should ever go betting baseball, but I am confident the Braves will be far more superior tonight’s game. Take Atlanta.

My free winner for hump day is on the Sacramento Kings, laying points to the New Orleans Hornets tonight at Sleep Train Arena. This is an easy number to cover, as two bad teams get together for a tussle in Northern Cal.

There is something to be said when you have to shoddy teams playing, as you can generally find a value line more times than not. And if there's one thing I can say about the Kings, as bad as they may be, they're always going to play you tough at home. And since the home team has 9 of 10 straight up, and the straight-up winner in this series is on a 7-1 ATS run I think you have to side with the Kings in this game.

You look at this team on paper, and yes it's lost four straight at home. Then look at the opponents, and you're going to see the Kings have played the Lakers, Rockets, Mavericks and Grizzlies. Overall, Sacto is on a five-game home losing streak, and this might be the right time to side with the Kings to snap that skid.

The Hornets is playing the second of back-to-back nights, after losing to the Lakers in Los Angeles last night, and this will be the team's fifth road game in eight days.

Finally, and maybe most importantly, though the Hornets have covered the last four meetings, the Kings are in on a 15-2 ATS run when hosting New Orleans.

Lay the chalk.

My comp play for Wednesday is the New Orleans Hornets as the road underdog against the Sacramento Kings.

New Orleans is wrapping up a 5 game road swing, and they have split their last pair straight up, while covering in both as the underdog. The Hornets have also held the upper-hand in this rivalry, winning outright and against the spread in each of the last 3 meetings between the teams.

The Hornets have also taken 6 of the past 10 overall meetings versus the Kings.

As for Sacramento, the Kings home losing streak has now hit 5 in a row with their loss to Memphis on Sunday.

Hard to get excited about actually laying points with a Kings team that is riding both a protracted home court losing streak, and a series losing streak, so I say to take the points with the underdog Hornets tonight.

Wednesday freebie is the Under in the Braves-Marlins game.

Last night just 5 runs combined between the teams, as Atlanta made it 3 straight Unders, and Unders in 5 of their last 6 games this season. The Braves have been getting some stellar April pitching, as they have held the opposition to 2 runs or less in 3 straight games, and 6 of their last 7 on the year!

Miami has now held Under the total in their last 3 games, and are an overall 5-2-1 Under for the season.

It will be Mike Minor going for the Braves. Minor is 6-0 with an ERA under 2 over his last 8 starts dating back to last season. Alex Sanabia counters for Miami, and he did pitch very well in his season debut, working 6 scoreless in Miami's only win over the Mets last week.

Runs are hard to find once again tonight, play the Braves-Marlins Under the total.

Gave you a free play winner on the Thunder last night.

Sticking in the NBA for Wednesday, free play on the Nuggets at home over the Spurs.

All is not lost for the Nuggets as they still have an outside shot of getting a higher seed in the Western Conference playoffs.

If Denver can get a big win tonight at home where they've only lost three times all year, they'll inch closer to the Spurs and Thunder for one of the top two seeds instead of #3.

San Antonio (57-20) is still slightly in first place in the West with just a few games to go, though they did drop three of their last four before holding off Atlanta by two on Saturday.

Despite the fact that both teams are banged up, both coaches have said they'll play as if this were a Finals matchup because there's still a lot on the line.

Denver is looking for their franchise-record 21st straight home win tonight and a win here would make it even sweeter.

The Nuggets (53-24) have won 19 of 21 overall, but the injuries keep creeping up at the wrong time... the latest casualty is Danilo Gallinari who will miss the rest of the season and the playoffs with a torn ACL.

Too much at stake for Denver here tonight... take the Nuggets minus the small number to get the job done.

The American League West defending champion Oakland Athletics arrived in Anaheim on a five-game win streak yesterday, and the Angels of Anaheim were looking to remind them whose owned the division for so long. The Halos came back from a 5-2 deficit, tied the game and stole momentum.

Then the A's had a reminder of their own.

The division leaders broke out the bats and pulled away for a 9-5 road win in the series opener, and now the gloves are coming off, as I have the Angels taking this second game. Trust me, the Angels are going to be pissed off for a few reasons, and will likely be out to win big tonight.

Now they've not only lost the Sunday night televised game, as the Texas Rangers avenged their season-opening loss to the Houston Astros on national TV with a huge win, but they've dropped their home opener on the same day they learned their ace (Jered Weaver) will be out four weeks.

Tonight we're going to see an angry Angels team take it to Oakland and score a huge win, in the opener of what is somewhat of a statement series. These new-look Halos want nothing more than to send a message to everyone - including the first-place A's - they're ready to contend for the division title.

All Angels.

What the hell is Boston doing laying points to anyone right now that is a decent team? I am not putting stock into the Cletics, who have free fallen for the past 2 weeks, beating up on Washington who they had trouble putting away in their last game. They have lost 6 out of their last 10 games and only covered 3 of those games and the Nets are the better team who is playing with DOUBLE revenge here. Celtics scoring 97 and allowing 100 ppg their last 5, and that will not cut it tonight against a red hot on offense scoring 103 ppg their last 5. Nets better, and I will take the points.

A heavyweight battle tonight in the Rockies, as the Nuggets host the San Antonio Spurs. Denver has surely been unbeatable on home hardwood where they have run off 20-straight wins. What is even more impressive than that is the fact that during this stretch they are 11-0 vs. teams that would be in the playoffs if the sesson ended today, with a winning margin of 14.8 points per game. San Antonio is certainly capable of playing with Denver, but not the way they are playing right now. The Spurs jare ust 4-4 over their last eight, and have not beaten a playoffs team on the road since the end of February. Lay the points on Denver in this one.

Jeff Scott Sports

3 UNIT PLAYS

Milwaukee -120 over CHICAGO: The Brewers are off to a slow start, thanks mainly to allot of offensive injuries, but they are still 21-7 in the last 28 meetings in this series and the Cubs are just 15-40 in their last 55 games as a dog. The Brewers have a solid edge on the mound in this one with Loshe over Feldman and with their offense hurting some that is key. Scott Feldman is off a rough opening start as he allowed 4 ER's in 4.2 innings of work vs Atlanta, and this after he finished last year going 0-5 with a with a 6.92 ERA in his lat 8 starts last year. Something just isn't right with this guy and I feel that Milwaukee can capitalize. Kyle Loshe pitched very well last year, going 16-3 with a 2.86 ERA and he started off in fine fashion this year, allowing just 1 ER in 6 innings vs Arizona. Kyle is 2-1 in this park, despite a 4.32 ERA, but he is just so locked in that I feel he can totally shut down the Cubs here. Bi edge on the mound should offset the minimal edge the Cubs have at the plate, giving Milwaukee a nice win here.

San Diego/ LA Dodgers Over 7: I know that one games means very little, but last year Petco was one of the hardest parks to hit homers out of and last night in the 1st game played here with the shortened fences there were 3 dingers hit in the game and 12 runs scored overall. The Padre offense has not looked all that good this year, but they did look good in their home opener, scoring 9 runs on 11 hits. The Dodgers offense scored just 3 runs last night, but still had 10 hits in the game and i feel they can put a few more runs on the board in this one. Eric Stults has pitched well for the Padres, but this is an upgraded Dodger offense, while on the other side we have Chad Billingsley, who may have some rust as he is coming off the DL. We may not get 12 runs in this one, but I do expect at least 9 here.

Twins / Royals Over

Liam Hendriks has posted great minor league numbers but he simply has not been able to produce for the Twins at the big league level. The Australian makes his 22nd career start tonight and his career ERA is 5.80 with a 1-10 record. In his 2013 debut he threw three solid innings but then ran into big trouble in back-to-back innings, eventually pulled with two outs in the 5th inning. He posted just one strikeout and allowed eight hits. The Royals saw Hendriks twice last season getting eight runs on him in less than nine innings and this is a Royals team that has won five of the last six after a 0-2 start. The Royals have scored 38 runs in the last six games as this offense is living up to its potential. Minnesota's bullpen has seen a lot of work with marginal results and after getting just six outs from Mike Pelfrey last night the Twins could be in a bad situation on the mound today. Wade Davis hopes to find new life as a starter this season after pitching entirely in the bullpen for the Rays last season. Davis had good relief numbers last year and he was a reliable regular in the Tampa Bay rotation on good teams in 2010 and 2011. Davis did not have a strong 2013 debut, giving up two home runs and allowing nine hits in four innings in his first start. Minnesota has a few power threats in the lineup and the Twins are getting some production from the back of the lineup even if the top of the order is struggling a bit. Minnesota could be a strong 'over' team this season as the offense appears to be healthy and improved but this is still a team that will have a hard time on the mound. The 'over' is 7-3 in the last 10 games between these teams and that trend should continue Wednesday night.
