SPORTS WAGERS

TORONTO +6 over Calgary

Well, if there’s one thing we’ve learned thus far in the early going is that laying points in this league is not a very good idea. The Stamps are an enigma. They’re talented and they’re 2-0 but could just as easily be 0-2 and its 14-point win and cover over these same Argos in Calgary in week one was a very lucky cover. They probably should have won by 24 points but the bottom line is that the Stamps have been very sloppy thus far and now they’re on a very short week. In fact, the Stamps stayed in the Toronto area after its slim one-point win over the TiCats last week, and that, too, works against them. They played on Saturday and will now play this one on just three full days of rest. Furthermore, Henry Burris has been just as sloppy as the rest of the team. Burris has not looked good at all. Meanwhile, Cleo Lemon hasn’t made the full adjustment to this league yet but one can’t deny he’s looking more and more comfortable with each passing quarter. The Argos were an 11½-pooch in Winnipeg last week and won outright. Now they’ll play its home-opener and they’ll take back a pretty sweet number. The Argos won’t dazzle anyone but its confidence level is rising and just like Lemon, the rest of the team is playing better with each passing quarter. Cory Boyd ran for 109 yards last week on 19 carries against the Bombers and that’s also a big plus for the Double Blue. So, winning on the road is tough enough. Winning on the road on a very short week is tougher and being asked to win by seven is even tougher. Argos outright but we’ll take the points. Play: Toronto +6 (Risking 2.2 units to win 2).
