Thursday 3/11/21 thread for free handicapping service plays and expert predictions for NBA, MLB & NCAAB games
Matt Severance
TAMPA BAY @ DETROIT | 03/11 | 7:30 PM EST
DETROIT +1.5
ANALYSIS: Anytime you get a home team as a puckline underdog as Detroit is here at +115 -- you TAKE it. Most NHL games still end by a one-goal margin and the Wings played the excellent Lightning very tough Tuesday in a 4-3 OT loss in Motown. That was with Detroit starting Thomas Greiss in net, who is 1-11-4. Should be Jonathan Bernier here, and he's a respectable 6-5-0 with a 2.94 GAA. I could see the Bolts turning to backup Curtis McElhinney in net, too.
PHILADELPHIA @ CHICAGO | 03/11 | 8:00 PM EST
CHICAGO -2
ANALYSIS: Philadelphia is 1-5 this season when Joel Embiid doesn't play and 2-3 when Ben Simmons doesn't -- the Sixers are 0-1 when both don't. Neither will go Thursday as they remain in COVID protocols, which caused them to miss Sunday's All-Star Game. Chicago, meanwhile, will be getting reinforcements in the apparent return from injury of Lauri Markkanen and Otto Porter Jr. The Bulls are 9-2 ATS in their past 11 vs. teams with a losing road record -- Philly is 8-9 SU (6-9-2 ATS) away.

DETROIT @ CHARLOTTE | 03/11 | 7:00 PM EST
CHARLOTTE -5.5
ANALYSIS: The exciting Hornets are healthy for their first game post-All Star Break, and it comes against a Pistons team that's 4-16 on the road and leaning heavily on three rookies. Charlotte has a chance to get to .500 and it finds itself just a half-game out of the Southeast Division lead. Look for the Hornets to cover versus Detroit for the seventh straight time.
PHILADELPHIA @ CHICAGO | 03/11 | 8:00 PM EST
CHICAGO -2
ANALYSIS: Joel Embiid had 50 points and 17 rebounds in Philly's 112-105 home win over Chicago on Feb. 19. The 76ers are 1-5 without him. He and Ben Simmons are out Thursday against a Bulls team that won six of nine entering the All-Star Break. Typically I hate playing the Bulls as favorites, but I'll lay the small number here.

GEORGIA @ MISSOURI | 03/11 | 7:00 PM EST
OVER 153.5
ANALYSIS: Georgia plays at one of the fastest paces in the nation on offense and defense. The Bulldogs pressure opponents into up-tempo games. In five of their last seven games, there were 78 possessions per team. Georgia often plays with four guards, and sometimes five. Missouri has shown it will play up tempo, and the Tigers' offense is better than their defense. Georgia is 15-9 to the over this year. Missouri is on a 10-3 over run.
OKLAHOMA ST. @ W. VIRGINIA | 03/11 | 11:30 AM EST
OVER 151
ANALYSIS: Both of these teams like to play fast. Both of them put pressure on their opponents defensively, and that will pick up the tempo. West Virginia's offense ranks 11th in the nation in efficiency. But the defense is ranked 72nd. Oklahoma State is 15-9-1 to the over this season. West Virginia is 17-9 to the over. Both of the two games between these teams this season went over, at 171 and 165 points.

ANALYSIS: The Flames have dropped two straight games despite outshooting both opponents. Darryl Sutter takes over as head coach and the team should be fired up. Montreal will be playing its second straight game in as many days and third game in four nights. Take the Flames

GEORGETOWN @ VILLANOVA | 03/11 | 12:00 PM EST
GEORGETOWN +8
ANALYSIS: In their past seven games, the Hoyas have gone 5-2 with both losses coming to UConn. After beating Marquette by 19 on Wednesday, they face a Villanova team that will be missing point guard Collin Gillespie and likely also missing guard Justin Moore (12.7 ppg). Without Gillespie and with Moore limited to 12 minutes at Providence in the regular-season finale, the Wildcats lost 54-52. Back Georgetown.

BOSTON @ BROOKLYN | 03/11 | 7:30 PM EST
BROOKLYN -2.5
ANALYSIS: Despite the time off for the All-Star break, the Nets won’t get Kevin Durant (hamstring) back for this game. Also, the newly signed Blake Griffin (injury management) won’t play. The Celtics will receive Marcus Smart back from injury, but he will likely play limited minutes. A key stat to keep in mind is that the Celtics have been awful on the road, posting a 6-13 record there ATS. With the Nets having won 10 of their last 11 games, I like them to cover this small line at home.
DETROIT @ CHARLOTTE | 03/11 | 7:00 PM EST
CHARLOTTE -4.5
ANALYSIS: After missing seven straight games, Devonte’ Graham (knee) is expected to make his return in this contest for the Hornets. That would add a potent scoring option off their bench and yet another excellent passer to a group that already includes LaMelo Ball and Gordon Hayward. If Delon Wright (groin) doesn’t return for the Pistons, this game could get out of hand in a hurry. Even if he does play, the Hornets’ improved depth chart still leaves them in a favorable spot to cover.

Rotation #735
Oregon State +5 over UCLA
Oregon State has been overlooked this year, but they have the talented to pull an upset today against a less than healthy UCLA team. The Beavers have a great three point defense and on offense they share the ball well and don’t turn the ball over. If you can keep your possessions you have a chance to beat anybody on any given night. UCLA is a very young team that lacks the senior leadership the Beavers have in a knockout game. This Bruins team is just not very deep so if their star players don’t have great nights they can easily get upset. Take Oregon State.

Rotation #676
Rutgers -3 over Indiana
Indiana in the past was always a decent three point shooting team, but this year they can’t hit the long ball. The Hoosiers have good players, but they are not a great rebounding team and I just don’t think they have the physical toughness or athletic ability to stop Rutgers today. The Scarlet Knights beat them up good in the last meeting and went on a monster run for the last half of the game. They proved they were the better team. Rutgers is healthier and has the size and strength advantage. Geo Baker and Ron Harper should dominate. Take Rutgers.
College Basketball

Rotation #738
USC -6.5 over Utah
A major flaw this time of year for Utah is their lack of rebounding. Once you start getting these back to back to back like games teams legs start to go. Utah is already such a poor rebounding team that the athletic ability USC brings will be way too much for them tonight. This is a Utes team that is not good from the three point line so they have to shoot such a high percentage just to win games. USC has a better offense and a better defense. This team is awesome on the glass. Look for Utah to get no second chance looks and look for USC themselves to create tons of second chance points on the offensive end. The Trojans hit the transfer scene hard and it has paid off. Take USC.

ATLANTA -3
ANALYSIS: This is a tough spot for the Raptors, who will be without Fred VanVleet, Pascal Siakam and OG Anunoby for the third straight game because of COVID-19 protocols. In the first two games that they missed, they lost by 24 points to the Pistons and by seven points to the Celtics. It wouldn’t be surprising to see the Hawks win Thursday by blowout.

OREGON -9
ANALYSIS: Surging Oregon has won 10 of 11, including an 11-point win at Arizona State. In that game, Sun Devils guard Remy Martin scored 30 points. Now he's in a 6-for-26 shooting slump. ASU was fortunate to beat Washington State on Wednesday. Look for the Ducks to improve to 13-2 ATS in their last 15 neutral-site games.

TEMPLE @ SOUTH FLORIDA | 03/11 | 12:00 PM EST
TEMPLE -1.5
ANALYSIS: AAC Tournament first-round game from Fort Worth. The injury news is good for Temple and not for USF. The Owls should have star freshman Damian Dunn as he was warming up pregame. Dunn, who averaged 13.8 points and 4.3 rebounds during the season and was an All-AAC Rookie Team member, had missed the previous three with a knee injury. Bulls junior forward Alexis Yetna (9.5 ppg, 7.8 rpg) will not play. He has missed the past three with an ankle injury. Temple and USF split in the regular season. South Florida is 0-6 ATS in its past six as a dog.

OKLAHOMA @ KANSAS | 03/11 | 6:30 PM EST
KANSAS -2.5
ANALYSIS: Oklahoma ended a four-game losing streak with a win yesterday against Iowa State, 79-73, failing to cover. The Sooners have failed to cover their last six games. Kansas is in the midst of playing its best ball of the season, winning seven of its last eight with wins against Baylor, Texas Tech and Oklahoma State. Kansas is 6-1-1 ATS in its last eight. One team is hot; the other is not. Kansas is the play.
MIAMI (OHIO) @ BUFFALO | 03/11 | 4:00 PM EST
BUFFALO -8
ANALYSIS: Buffalo is playing great right now and has hopes of winning the MAC and getting the automatic NCAA Tournament bid. The Bulls have won five straight and eight of their last nine, with their only loss coming against first-place Toledo. They’re certainly the hottest team in the MAC right now. Take Buffalo to cover Thursday.
