IONA @ FLORIDA | 03/16 | 9:00 PM EDT
UNDER 145.5
ANALYSIS: Who wants to be playing this game less? Florida had NCAA hopes, but perhaps Iona had more disappointment coming off a bad loss as an 11.5-point favorite early in the MAAC Tournament after winning the regular-season title. Anyway, this total is seven points too high for two really good defensive teams, and Iona has stayed Under in its last four as an underdog. Just the Under.
NOTRE DAME @ RUTGERS | 03/16 | 9:10 PM EDT
RUTGERS +1
ANALYSIS: Notre Dame finished tied for second in the ACC but was promptly dropped in its first game of the ACC Tournament by Virginia Tech. Rutgers was fifth in the Big Ten but were relegated to this First Four game for some reason, perhaps because its dominance came mostly at home (14-3). I have Rutgers rated a half-point better on a neutral court, and I have a feeling Rutgers will have a home edge with its leading scorer, Ron Harper Jr., playing Dayton. Ron Sr. grew up in Dayton and has a school gym named after him there. Most importantly, Rutgers is the better team with the better defense and went 5-4 against ranked teams. Notre Dame went 1-1 against ranked teams. Notre Dame is going to push the pace and help get the game Over (its last eight games have gone Over), but Rutgers will cover.

NOTRE DAME @ RUTGERS | 03/16 | 9:10 PM EDT
RUTGERS +1
ANALYSIS: I'm going to grab Rutgers for a First Four play on Wednesday. I have them winning this game by two points based on recent performance. In 10 games since February 5th, Rutgers has only played one opponent outside the top 50 D1 teams. A testament to how strong the Big Ten is this year. Rutgers went 6-4 in those games, beating teams like Wisconsin and Indiana on the road. I think that dispels the fears of them only being good at home. Notre Dame, who I have ranked at 54th, is worse than what Rutgers has been beating and comes from a weaker conference. I think the Scarlet Knights are ready so I'm taking the point and expecting a win.

NICHOLLS ST. @ SMU | 03/16 | 8:00 PM EDT
NICHOLLS ST. +15.5
ANALYSIS: The Mustangs are undefeated at home, but they closed the season in less-than-dominating fashion, even at Moody Coliseum. In fact, SMU failed to cover its last two home games, beating Tulane by six and Cincinnati by five. SMU is dealing with the disappointment of just missing the NCAA Tournament. The Colonels, meanwhile, are pumped to be playing in their first-ever NIT. They feature Southland Player of the Year Ty Gordon, a fifth-year senior who poured in 21.6 points per game. With Nicholls having won 10 of its last 12, and having played Wisconsin and other major programs tough, I'll take the points.

IONA @ FLORIDA | 03/16 | 9:00 PM EDT
IONA +6.5
ANALYSIS: Iona went 25-6, beat Alabama and Yale, and lost to Saint Louis by one point. The Gaels are excited for this NIT opportunity, while the Gators will be led by interim coach Al Pinkins following Mike White's resignation. Florida lost five of its last eight games. The Gators are dealing with several injury issues as well. Take the points.

MISS. STATE @ VIRGINIA | 03/16 | 7:00 PM EDT
UNDER 123.5
ANALYSIS: I rarely play Unders in the NIT but cannot help myself with this matchup. Virginia plays extremely slowly on offense, and its defense forces teams to work late into the shot clock. Mississippi State also plays slowly and has a solid defense. I'm on the Under.

COLUMBUS @ OTTAWA | 03/16 | 7:30 PM EDT
UNDER 6.5
ANALYSIS: Perhaps bet this total now because it could drop to 6 by Wednesday morning. My model simulations have 5.8 goals being scored between the Jackets and Sens with 64 percent of sims landing Under 6.5. Ottawa surrendered five goals in a loss Monday, but the Under is 9-1 in the team's past 10 following a game of allowing at least five.

ATLANTA @ CHARLOTTE | 03/16 | 7:00 PM EDT
CHARLOTTE +1
ANALYSIS: The Hawks have crazy home and road splits. They are a stellar 22-13 at home, but they are just 12-21 on the road. John Collins (finger) is out again, leaving them without one of their best weapons up front. With wins in four of their last six games, look for the Hornets to capitalize on their homecourt advantage by knocking off the shorthanded Hawks.
BOSTON @ GOLDEN ST. | 03/16 | 10:00 PM EDT
GOLDEN ST. -2
ANALYSIS: The Warriors received a significant boost Monday with the return of Draymond Green from a back injury. He only logged 20 minutes off the bench in a 14-point win over the Wizards, but he chipped in six points, seven rebounds, six assists and a steal. Andrew Wiggins (illness) being listed as questionable does put a bit of a damper on things for the Warriors, but getting Green back is huge, and they are 29-7 at home. Meanwhile, the Celtics are just 17-16 on the road. Given this small spread, I’ll roll with the Warriors to cover.
