Scott Spreitzer's NBA Friday Night Knockout! *4-0, 100% ATS!

The Lakers own a strong record in the second of back-to-back away games. In fact, they're 4-1 both SU and ATS. But that was a different Laker team than we will see tonight in Toronto. That Laker squad had Andrew Bynum in the lineup. The Lakers were not only a stronger offensive squad with Bynum, but they were also a better team on the defensive end. Since his injury, the Lakers were allowing 106.9 points per game before last night's tilt at Detroit. Making matters worse, there are other players the Lakers are counting on, like Odom and Walton, who are both far from 100-percent healthy. Now, they must "lace 'em up" 24 hours following the hard-fought loss at Detroit and play against a team that really works the ball, looking for the open shot. The Raptors have won six in a row at home, by an average final score of 109.6 to 88.7! A tired and banged-up Laker team is not going to take a bite out of those numbers. I'm laying the points with the Raptors, my Friday night Knockout.

Scott Spreitzer

New Orleans Hornets at Sacramento Kings

I'm laying the points with the Hornets on Friday night. New Orleans took one on the chin last time out. But tonight, they're in a strong spot. In fact, they're a perfect 3-0 SU/ATS when laying points in this price range. They're also 15-5 ATS away from home this season and 16-6 against sub.-500 opposition. The Kings have played better basketball with the return of Artest, Bibby, and Martin. But they still lose focus on the defensive end at times, and they're allowing 102 PPG for the season. That's great news for the talent-laden Hornets. They are 20-1 SU this season when they score 100 points or more. Coach Byron Scott said his squad was flat and didn't have a lot of energy in their loss to Golden State. Don't expect that to be a problem tonight. The number is too low and I'll back the Hornets, minus points.

SPORTS MEMO COMP

ERIN RYNNING

Los Angeles at Toronto
Recommendation: Toronto

Seemingly, two teams going in opposite directions as the Lakers visit the Raptors on Friday night. This is always a tricky trip, as the Lakers will play in Detroit on Thursday night, while crossing the border in the back-to-back situation to face the Raptors. The identity of this Lakers team has changed since the loss of big man Andrew Bynum, which has correlated into some struggling play. Bynum obviously opened up the offense and the outside for the Lakers. His injury has simply made it more difficult for this team to score. In addition, playing a back-to-back, especially am expected battle against the Pistons, gives us more reason to expect a flat performance. Moreover, the Lakers are at the tail end of a deadly schedule, which has included Phoenix,San Antonio, Cleveland and Dallas. Meanwhile, the Raptors are turning the corner and ‘getting it’ if you will. All-Star Chris Bosh has openly boasted about making defending their home court a priority. In this match-up, the Raptors ball movement will be deadly against a Lakers team playing with a half a tank of gas.Bosh should also provide a match-up problem for the Lakers in the paint. He has developed his game with almost no weaknesses with a quick first step, post moves and outside shot. Simply put, the Lakers will have trouble matching the energy of the Raptors in this game making them a great play for Friday night

Best Bet
New Orleans over Sacramento
Chris Paul leads one of the league’s top teams against a rejuvenated Sacramento team. You should be able to get a decent line on this game with Kings now getting healthy. The Hornets not only have Paul, but the very underrated David West and Peja Stojakovic. C Tyson Chandler is the difference in the middle with his defense.

Preferred Plays
Washington over Utah 97-87
Portland over Knicks 109-90

New Jersey Nets @ Miami Heat u189.0

The Miami Heat are really struggling and just going through the motions, while New Jersey their opponents continue to have in house problems associated with Jason Kidds legal troubles, and his recent demand for a trade. Neither of these teams is playing with a lot of enthusiasm of late, and that will translate on the court tonight in, what I predict will be a fairly low scoring sleep feast . Final notes & Key Trends: Dwayne Wade (knee) is expected rest tonight.) The Heat have not scored more than 100 points in 15 straight games. Play under

BEN BURNS

UNDER Raptors/Lakers (202 or better)
Game: Los Angeles Lakers vs. Toronto Raptors Game Time: 2/1/2008 7:05:00 PM Prediction: under Reason: I'm playing on the Raptors and Lakers to finish UNDER the number. The Raptors have been playing excellent defense at home recently. In fact, they've held three straight visiting teams to 83 points or less and six of their last seven guests to 96 points or less. The Blazers were the only team to reach triple-digits (finished with 109) during that stretch. However, they too only managed 93 points during regulation, as 16 of their points came during the two overtime periods. Looking back further and we find that the UNDER is a healthy 11-6 the Raptors' last 17 home games. Note that the Raptors, who crushed Washington on Wedneday, have also seen the UNDER go 8-4 after scoring 105 or more points and 10-4 this season when coming off a double-digit victory. Despite a big game from Kobe, the Lakers saw last night's game fall well below the number, combining with the Pistons for just 179 points. They've now seen five of their last seven games stay beneath the total. Tonight's over/under number is currently sitting at 204.5. That's worth mentioning as we find the UNDER at 13-4 the last 17 times that the Lakers played a game with an over/under line ranging from 200 to 204.5, including a 3-0 mark this season. Additionally, note that the Lakers have also seen the UNDER go 7-2 the last nine times they were getting points and 15-8 the last 23 times that they were listed as road underdogs in the +3.5 to +6 range. Look for tonight's final score to be lower than expected once again. *Blue Chip

SACRAMENTO (+2 or better)
Game: New Orleans Hornets vs. Sacramento Kings Game Time: 2/1/2008 10:05:00 PM Prediction: Sacramento Kings Reason: I'm taking the points with SACRAMENTO. The Hornets finally saw their winning streak snapped last time out, losing by 11 points, as nine point favorites. People typically assume that a team which has just come to the end of an extended winning streak will immediately 'bounce back' and return to it's winning ways immediately. As a result, New Orleans will surely be a very popular pick with the betting public this evening. It often works the other way though. Having been on such an emotional high during the winning streak, the team experiences a natural letdown when the streak is over. Afterwards, it's not always easy to just "turn it back on." Traveling to a venue where they have always struggled, I expect the Hornets to run into trouble tonight. While they've struggled on the road, the Kings have been tough at home for years, going 331-146 (69%) over the past decade. This season, the Kings are a modest 13-9 SU/ATS here at Arco Arena. That record only tells half the story though, as Sacramento went through almost the entire first half season dealing with injuries to it's stars. The Kings are healthy now though and they've won three straight here, going 3-0 ATS. Looking back a bit further and we find that they've won five of their last six games on this floor. Note that the Kings have been far better offensively at home than they have been on the road, averaging 103.3 points here and just 96.5 on the road. The Hornets managed a win here last April when both teams had already been eliminated from postseason contention. However, prior to that, the Kings had won 11 in a row as a host in this series. The trio of Bibby, Artest and Martin combined for 53 points in Wednesday's win while Brad Miller chipped in another 22 points and a whopping 21 rebounds. I expect the Kings to continue their strong play on this court as they avenge an opening-night loss at New Orleans and improve to 10-2-1 ATS their last 13 home games played in the month of February. *Contrarian GOW

Sure this looks weird, but really we have to lay the points. First of all I am going to look for a HUGE game out of Turkoglu who not only has some of his bets career performances against the Sixers, but is one day off being a HUGE snub of the Eastern Conference All Star team. All this guy has done is average 19 points per game including 6 straight games of 20+ points. As for the rest of the Magic, they come in winners of 5 of their last 6 games with the only loss coming to Detroit. They also come in knowing they have dominated this series winning 7 of the last 10 meetings including 3 straight in Philly by an average of 9 points per game. Orlando is a great cover team, especially on the road. They are an amazing 19-8 ATS this season on the road, and dating back to last year, they have covered in 23 of their last 33 on the road (2 pushes - 23-8-2) The Sixers come in to this game having won 2 straight games against two very bad teams. They do not match up well with Orlando as the Magic continue to beat them from 3 point land year in and year out. The Sixers actually have a decent defense allowing only 95 per game (8th in the league) however they are 19th in 3 point % allowed, and that's not good news going up against this Magic team tonight. Look for a BIG Magic win tonight 106-89

Play Golden St -9.5 for 1.5 units
Nice spot to lay some points here as we catch the Bobcats in a back to back games situation. Charlotte is a horrible 2-7 this year in the second of back to back games (1-6 on the road) losing by an average of 12 points per game. Their not all that good against the spread to begin with (20-26 on the year), but their even worse on the road at 6-12. Their 5-9 in their last 14 road game against the spread, but 3 of those covers came in outright wins, which is something they wont come close to tonight. Tonight they get a Warriors team who in a weird scheduling move are playing their last game before taking 5 days off. Sometimes a situation like that would scare me into the fact that they could relax going into this game against a bad opponent. However, this team has too much offense, and is led by an experienced coach who should motivate them enough to play here. The main key however is the fact that this game tonight marks the first of 5 straight home game. In fact. GST plays 10 of their next 11 games at home. This is a team on the outside looking into the Playoffs, so they could use this stretch to gain some much needed ground out West. 7 of their next 11 games are against very poor teams, so tonight could start a burst from the Warriors. They are 3-0 all time vs the Bobcats at home including a 26 point win last year. Look for about the same here. GST wins 117-98

Bob Akmens

Washington Wizards +4.0

This play is the result of a successful computer model that has allowed Bob Akmens Sports to finish in first-place in 152 different categories of documented monitored handicapping contests since 1978.

The computer models I’ve developed for each sport look at the most-predictive variables that go into the winning and losing of games.

Several interesting factors in today’s play are as follows:

The Utah Jazz are especially poor in these point spread categories:

1-5 LAST 6 & 8-16 LAST 24 VS SE DIVISION OPPONENTS

5-11 LAST 16 AFTER 3 OR MORE UNDERS IN A ROW

The Washington Wizards excel in these categories:

6-3 LAST 9 AFTER SCORING 85 POINTS OR LESS IN A GAME

9-3 LAST 12 AFTER ALLOWING 105 OR MORE POINTS IN A GAME

7-2 LAST 9 AFTER LOSING BY 10 OR MORE POINTS IN A GAME

GO WITH WASHINGTON AS A +4 DOG IN THIS 705PM EST MATCHUP.
