Kansas vs Villanova
Play ON Kansas vs Villanova
Villanova is known for playing hard, hustling for loose balls, and being a solid team on the perimeter thanks to star guard Scottie Reynolds. However, as impressive as their performances were to get past Clemson and Siena, they now face one of the best teams in the nation. Making matters worse, they face them when they are shorthanded at a critical position. Center Casiem Drummond is the only Wildcat over 68 and he broke his right ankle in the win over the Saints last weekend. That is going to be a big problem now as they face a Kansas team with some big bodies down low. There is a big difference between defending Siena from the MAAC and defending one of the nations elite programs. Indeed, the Wildcats are likely to struggle Friday as they take a big step up in level of competition in facing the Jayhawks. Kansas has so much dangerous talent on offense that it is a scary match-up for Villanova. The Wildcats are undersized without Drummond and the Cats will have trouble dealing with the rugged 68 250 lb Darnell Jackson as well as 611 Sasha Kaun of the Jayhawks. Kansas rolled Portland State in the opening round and then made mincemeat of a respectable UNLV program in their second game. While the Wildcats also impressed, things really toughen up for them now in the Sweet Sixteen. While being undersized in the paint is a concern for Villanova, the Jayhawks have much more than just a talented frontcourt. In fact the Jayhawks best depth is in the backcourt and that is a key because it allows them to play full-court defense, and really be aggressive on the perimeter. They will do a better job of stopping Reynolds than other teams have as a result of this strength along the perimeter. The Jayhawks can, and will, be aggressive against him. Foul trouble really is no trouble because, with the depth they have, the Jayhawks have a number of interchangeable parts. Note that the Wildcats struggle when they cant hit their outside shots because their smallish size leads to struggles on the glass. The Jayhawks tenacious perimeter defense is likely to prevent Villanova from getting many open looks from in and near three point land and Kansas also does an excellent job of forcing turnovers. In terms of covering the big point spread here it is not so much of a concern when it involves a team with such great depth like Kansas has. There is little drop-off when the Jayhawks go to their bench and this also means fresh legs can be cycled in throughout a game. As noted above, Kansas has the personnel capable of defending well against Reynolds, the leading scorer for Villanova. Keep in mind that Reynolds averages more than 5.5 points per game more than what the Wildcats second leading scorer does. Slow down Reynolds, and without a big man inside, the entire Wildcats team will be in a slow down mode. That is what will help turn this into a rout. Its likely to be a lot of misses and/or turnovers for the Wildcats with the Jayhawks then turning those into easy buckets on the other end. As a result, the Jayhawks will open up a big lead and then be able to cruise to victory as the depth of their bench will not allow a backdoor cover for the Wildcats.

Chicago Bulls @ Atlanta Hawks
Pick: 3 unit(s) ATS: Atlanta Hawks -5
2 plays on this write-up: Not sure if this is the POD or not, but I do like this play. The Hawks come off a big win over the Bucks, have played well at home with some sound covers at home, remember they beat the Magic, this is Friday night and Phillips Arena will be packed out for this Eastern Conference bout, this is a revenge game for the Hawks and the Bulls have had a tendency to fade on the road and I think the Hawks come out and play well today to continue to keep their hopes for the playoffs alive. In short, revenge, the Bulls have faded away on the road a bit, Hawks are at home, I know the Bulls got burned at Philly, so they should come out and play well but I think the Hawks pull away just like they did against the Bucks in the 4th quarter in their last game. The Bulls are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 road ballgames and the Hawks are 8-3-1 ATS in their last 12 ballgames against teams who have a road winning % of less than .400% - the home team is 5-0 ATS in this serise.
Pacers 1st Half -3
I like the Pacers here to come out and play well in the first half. Remember, they were outscored 42-29 at New Jersey and they are likely to come out in the first half today and play well at home with revenge. I don't want to give the Nets an opportunity to come back in the second half as they have been doing well on the road lately coming back, but I will taek the Pacers to not repeat the performance they had the other night at New Jersey and come out and play well at home. The Pacers won 4 straight before running into the Hornets and Nets and I think the Pacers with revenge on their mind from their previous loss do well today at home.
Memphis Grizzlies @ Los Angeles Lakers
Pick: 3 unit(s) ATS: Memphis Grizzlies +14 (Play of the Day)
Call me crazy, but Memphis could very well win this game outright. In fact, I feel relatively strong enough about it to take 1 unit on the moneyline on them after I finish this write-up which sits at over a +1000. Memphis is a team that has been playing very well lately. Remember, they beat Charlotte, lost a late lead to Minny but still covered on the road, beat Sacramento, the Lakers come off a loss to the Bobcats so obviously they will be fired up today, but at the same time, the Grizz nearly beat Sacramento on the road outright despite Sac having revenge. I like Memphis in a potential shocker today out west and sure the Lakers can come out fired up after a loss, but this Memphis team has been getting very close to winning outright on the road, is playing very well, lost by just 1 to this team earlier in the year, is shooting the ball very well and frankly, I have the Grizz possibly winning outright by greater than 30% so will take the shot here on the ATS and ML.
Memphis Grizzlies @ Los Angeles Lakers
Pick: 1 unit(s) MONEYLINE: Memphis Grizzlies +1133
Look, my job is to increase the profits by the most possible margin. See the write-up on the Memphis game for this play but I think Memphis with the way they are shooting the ball, coming off an overtime to Sacramento, having revenge by losing by 1 point to this team earlier and desperaetly wanting a win on this road trip, they could very well win this game outright and I will gladly take a shot on that. It's well worth the risk of 1 unit in my opinion.
Game: Charlotte Bobcats @ Seattle Supersonics
Pick: 3 unit(s) ATS: Seattle Supersonics +3 (-106)
No time for write-up, please read the blog, but Seattle collapsed against Washington yesterday by 14 in the 4th, they should have won outright, I think they bounce-back here today, the Bobcats off a big win and this is a very fickle team on the road and I can easily see the Bobcats winning on the road at the Lakers only to walk into Seattle who has revenge and off a tough home loss.
