Tips and Trends

Orlando Magic at Los Angeles Lakers

Magic: Orlando shot just 29.1 percent from the floor and was out-rebounded, 55-41, in the Lakers’ 100-75 Game 1 victory. The Magic must improve in two key areas – points in the paint and in their perimeter shooting. Dwight Howard was held to just one-of-six shooting from the floor as the Lakers hammered Orlando inside outscoring the Magic, 56-22. Sharpshooters Rashard Lewis and Hedo Turkoglu shot a combined five-for-21 from the field, scoring just 21 points between them. Orlando has covered in seven of its last nine games. The underdog is 6-1 ATS the past seven times Orlando and the Lakers have met. Point guard Jameer Nelson played for the first time since undergoing shoulder surgery on Feb. 19. He had six points and four assists in 23 minutes. However, starting point guard Rafer Alston said he lost rhythm when he sat out the second quarter in favor of Nelson.

The Magic are 17-8 ATS as a road underdog.
The Magic are 16-6 ATS when playing on two days rest.

Key Injuries - NONE.

PROJECTED SCORE: 98 (Side Play of the Day)

Lakers (-6.5, O/U 202): The Lakers exploited their size advantage holding Dwight Howard to 12 points, nine points below his 21.7 playoff average. The Lakers will continue to mix up their double-team coverage on Howard. Lakers big men Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum will try to beat Howard to his spot, while Lamar Odom and Trevor Ariza occasionally help out. Kobe Bryant will try to keep Orlando’s defense off balance by setting up his teammates. Bryant took 34 shots while scoring 40 points on Thursday. Sparked by Bryant’s hitting 16 field goals, the Lakers made 46.1 percent of their shots from the floor. Bryant clearly is a man on a mission as he also pulled down eight rebounds and dished off eight assists, while sinking all eight of his free throws. The Lakers have covered five of their last seven games at the Staples Center. They are 8-2 ATS when playing on two days rest.

The Under has cashed in 9 of Los Angeles’ past 11 games.
The Under is 16-5 in the Lakers’ last 21 home games.

Key Injuries - NONE.

PROJECTED SCORE: 104
