March Madness Picks & Predictions for Friday, March 25, 2011

(The Spread) – The Sweet 16 continues Friday with four more March Madness games, including a battle between long shots VCU and Florida State at 9:55PM ET.

Oddsmakers from online sports book Bodog.com have made Florida State a 4-point favorite over VCU in tonight’s matchup. The over/under total for this game is currently 130.5 points.

The Rams have made it look easy the past two weeks. In their “First Four” matchup with USC, they crushed the Trojans 59-46 as a 4-point underdog before beating Georgetown 74-56 as a 5.5-point dog. Then they beat Purdue outright 94-76 as a 9.5-point dog to set up their matchup tonight with Florida State.

The Seminoles ran past Texas A&M in the opening round, beating the Aggies 57-50 as a 1-point favorite. FSU then upset two-seeded Notre Dame 71-57 in the second round, easily covering as a 4.5-point underdog.

March Madness Predictions: VCU has covered the spread in four of its last five games. The Rams have also won and covered in eight of their last nine postseason tournament games and have won 19 of their last 22 games coming off two more outings with 11 or less turnovers. Of all the teams left in the Southwest Region, VCU had the toughest two matchups to this point and won them both. For a team that appeared to be headed for the NIT Tournament, the Rams have been awfully impressive and I don’t think their good fortunate ends tonight. Bradford Burgess and Co. have one more upset in them, although take the points, too.
