Utah Jazz -2.0

Things are apparently not well with the San Antonio Spurs right now, and visiting the Utah Jazz does not seem like a recipe for improvement.

The Jazz are a fantastic 18-3 straight up at home this season while winning by an impressive average of +12.8 points per game, and they are a sparkling 22-8-1 against the spread in their last 31 contests stretching back to last season. They are also a hot club right now, as they have won four straight and seven of their last nine after a 97-89 road win at Houston last night, and they have won eight straight at home.

The Spurs appeared to be in a spot to assert themselves on Saturday, as they figured to make a statement vs. a New Orleans Hornets team that owns the best record in the Western Conference. Instead, San Antonio scored a grand total of just 51 points over the last three quarters of a 102-78 blowout loss, the worst home loss of Tim Duncan’s career. They must now go on a long road trip as the rodeo comes to the Alamo Dome, and the Spurs have a losing 8-9 SU record away from home this season while going a poor 6-11 ATS.

Finally, the home team has dominated this head-to-head series while going 10-1 in the last 11 meetings, and given these clubs home/away splits this year, look for more of the same here at this cheap number.

San Antonio Spurs at Utah Jazz

The Jazz (26-18) look for their fifth win in a row overall and ninth straight at home on Monday when they host the Spurs. But coming off an embarrassing loss at home by the hands of the Hornets, I expect the Spurs to come out firing on all cylinders tonight. It’s interesting to note that the total has gone OVER the number in 7 of the last 8 games these teams have played together and I expect more offensive fireworks tonight; play on the OVER!

Play on: Over

Priceless Free Pick for Monday

NCAAB
1 Unit on Louisville +2

A big road win over Indiana puts the Huskies in letdown mode here. Pitino's Cards will take advantage. Louisville is on fire having won 10 of its last 12 games. The Cards have also taken down 5 of their last 7 ATS. The Cards are 11-2 ATS in road games over the last 2 seasons and 10-2 ATS as a road underdog of 3 points or less or pick since 1997. UConn is 2-10 ATS when playing against a good team (Win Pct. 60% to 80%) after 15 or more games over the last 2 seasons. Take the Cards tonight.

Dallas Mavericks -7.0

Dallas enters into this tilt against their hosts Memphis having won 11 of their L/13 games overall. The Grizzlies are at the opposite end of the proverbial performance spectrum, having lost 14 of their L/18 overall SU. With these two teams operating at different levels right now it will be an easy decision to back the visiting team this evening. Final notes & Key Trends: The Dallas Mavericks have owned the Memphis Grizzlies in the recent past, winning 8 straight meetings in this series and have won 6 straight visits to Tennessee. Injury update: Grizz injury prone star Pau Gasol is currently suffering with a sore back, and may not play.Dallas to win and cover

Memphis Grizzlies +7.0

From a ‘spot’ perspective, it doesn’t get much worse than the spot Dallas finds themselves in tonight as they travel to Memphis. The Mavs are playing on the second night of back-2-backs, coming off a tough, physical win against the Nuggets yesterday. On deck for Dallas during this East Coast swing? Three consecutive games against the three division leaders in the Eastern Conference, with Boston, Detroit and Orlando on tap. In between the tough home win against Denver and the three tough road games is this contest against a team that they’ve beaten eleven consecutive times. Clearly, we can expect a less than stellar effort from Dallas this evening.

The Mavs haven’t exactly been blowing out the Grizzlies in recent contests, despite their run of straight-up success. The first meeting this year, in Dallas, was an easy Memphis pointspread cover as they lost by only three points as 14 point underdogs. Recent home meetings show a one point Grizzlies loss and a five point loss in overtime, either of which would be enough to cover this pointspread. The Grizzlies are coming off a win over the Clippers without leading scorer Pau Gasol in the lineup. They are worthy of support again here, where Gasol ends up suiting up or not. Take the Grizzlies.

3.5-Unit Play. Take #527 Louisville (+2) over Connecticut
Road teams have been getting it done in the Big East lately, and I liked this play even if Connecticut was at full strength. They are not, with leading scorer Andre Dyson and Doug Wiggins. Unfortunately, that’s the same reason I didn’t go with UConn over Indiana and we saw how that played out. But Indiana is a joke. Louisville is not. With a healthy compliment of players I think that UL has Top 10 talent.

3-Unit Play. Take #524 Wofford (-120) over Charleston
Note: I do endorse this at -1.5 or -2. I don't want to take any chances.

Beware the Terriers. They are a 3-point bombing team, and as we get later in the year and everyone starts shooting better a team like Wofford becomes very dangerous. They lost to Charleston by 10 two weeks ago but they only shot 19-for-49 in that game. Since then the Terriers have shot 53.1 percent over three games, and they are nailing nearly 46 percent of their 3-pointers at home. Charleston is coming off a semi-emotional game against conference Goliath Davidson and I think they could get overwhelmed early by the Wofford barrage.

2.5-Unit Play. Take #513 Boise State (-1) over Fresno State
Fresno State is just 1-2 SU and ATS since losing Bryan Harvey to academic issues. Boise State is the No. 1 shooting team in the country and they are 8-1-1 ATS in the last 10 meetings. Further, the road team is 13-1-1 ATS in this series and the Broncos have covered nine straight at Fresno. I think this line is about four points light so we’re getting solid value on the more talented, more experienced team here.

2-Unit Play. Take #519 Cal Poly SLO (+12) over Pacific
Nearly 90 percent of the action is on Pacific, in a pseudo-letdown spot after a big win at UC-Santa Barbara. Pacific shot 60 percent in that game so I look for them to come back down to earth somewhat. Cal Poly is no good, but they are 10-4 ATS in Big West play and are 4-2 ATS in this series. We’re going to fade the squares today and see what happens.

STRIKE POINT SPORT'S

3-Unit Play. Take Boise State PK over Fresno State

This year in the WAC, it's Boise State that is a very good team and flying under the radar. At 14-5, they are the play over a medicore 10-10 Fresno State team. Four of the Broncos five losses have been by four points or less, so even in defeat they have been very competitive, and surely some of these setbacks could have easily been wins. Not only is the road team 13-1-1 ATS in the last 15 meetings, but Boise State has covered eight of the last ten against the Bulldogs Here, they get the outright win. Play the Broncos in this one.

DOC'S

3 Unit Play.Take Oklahoma -8½ over Oklahoma State
The Bedlam Series is renewed basketball style when the Cowboys enter Norman looking for their second conference victory on the season. The Cowboys have been a terrible road team losing every game (0-4) and are just 1-7 in games away from Stillwater. The Sooners picked up an impressive victory at Baylor on Saturday catching the Bears in a flat spot after playing in an epic five overtime affair. Blake Griffin is beast inside the paint and will get another double-double propelling the Sooners to victory in the Bedlam Battle.

4 Unit Play. Take Louisville +1½ over Connecticut
The Huskies pulled off their biggest win of the season on Saturday winning at Indiana but they are still without Dyson and Wiggins and that will eventually catch up to them. The Big Ten is way down this season and most of the top teams in the conference have trouble scoring points, something that Louisville does not have a problem with. The Cardinals are now healthy and off to an impressive 5-2 start in the conference including a remarkable 4-1 when playing true road games. They are now starting to defend and should be able to frustrate and youthful Husky squad allowing them to win this game in the sixties.

NBA Selection

San Antonio has won six of the last 7 clashes against Utah, going 6-1 ATS. However, the Spurs have playing below par as of late on offense and have been horrible away from home. San Antonio has dropped six of its last 9 road games, just 8-9 this seaon. Meanwhile, the hot Jazz have won and covered the spread in their last four games and won nine straight at home, 18-3 at EnergySolutions Arena this year. Take the Jazz in Salt Lake City. San Antonio is 3-10 ATS in their last 13 games overall, 1-6 ATS in its last 7 games on the road. The home team in this series is 10-1 ATS in the last 11 meetings.

1 Unit on New Orleans -8.5

We'll make a small play on the Hornets at home tonight because of how poorly the Nuggets have been on the road. The Nuggets are just 7-12 on the road this season and has lost 5 straight road games, 4 of those ATS. The Hornets are the hottest team in the NBA. They have won 8 straight games straight up and ATS. They have won 16 of their last 18 games straight up and ATS. During New Orleans' run it has won 7 games by double digits an it has won 6 straight home games by double figures. We'll lay the points on the hottest team in the league tonight.

15 Dime –

HORNETS

Take the Hornets at home tonight over the Nuggets.

New Orleans has won and covered eight straight games. They are playing with supreme confidence and have had a day off, while Denver comes into this game a bit fatigued.

The Nuggets are playing their third game in four nights and second in 48 hours. They had a hard fought loss to the Mavericks last night, now must find a way to muster up the strength to take on the hard charging Hornets on the road tonight.

Denver looked like a team that is missing Carmelo Anthony in its loss to Dallas, and since he’s day-to-day, there’s no telling when he’s going to make it back.

New Orleans is on a run, playing a team that is running on fumes, so don’t be surprised if this game gets out of hand.

Denver is 2-9 ATS in its last 11 versus the NBA Southwest, while New Orleans is on an extended 38-15-1 ATS run in its last 54 games overall.

Take the Hornets as they grab the cash at home over the Nuggets.

5 Dime –

Louisville-Connecticut UNDER

Take the under tonight between Louisville and UConn.

Both teams are coming from games in the Midwest on Saturday. They’ll be feeling each other out in the first 20 minutes, then will attempt to open it up in the second half.

UConn is playing much better this season under head coach Jim Calhoun, who preaches defense, defense, defense. His counterpart, Rick Pitino, will try to attack the Huskies ball handlers in an attempt to create turnovers.

Whatever method you prefer, they both look like they’re going to add up to a low-scoring game.

Take the under.
