NBA ATS Countdown Issue 9
by: Cajun Sports

We are back for another installment of our NBA ATS Countdown which takes a look at the Top Five NBA teams against the spread. As we do in most issues we not only look at ATS situations for the Top 5 teams we also look at total situations and provide a Key Angle for each team. This edition has a new member but one that has been here before, Boston used a 4-2 ATS run to climb back into the Top 5 in the league against the spread. Here are the Top 5 take a look…

Even posting a subpar 3-3 ATS record since our last countdown the Orlando Magic were able to hold onto their Number One ranking. The Magic are 37-20 ATS overall on the year which includes a record of 17-11 ATS on their home floor and 20-9 ATS when they hit the highway. Both records are above 60% which is considered the Holy Grail in sports wagering, if one can only hit 60% all their troubles would over, right? Well on to the rest of the Magic’s money-making situations. In our last issue we mentioned playing on the Magic when they have two days rest, they were 9-0 ATS but have since lost 1 game in that situation but they are still a solid 9-1 ATS. When Orlando is playing a back-to-back on the road they are perfect in the second game posting a record of 5-0 ATS, they were 4-0 ATS in our last report and picked up a win to improve that record. The Magic’s top total situation is to play the ‘over’ when they are installed as an underdog; they are 8-3-1 ‘over’ for 72.7 percent winners. Key Angle: Orlando is 7-25-1 ATS versus a conference opponent when coming off a SU loss and going ‘under’ in their previous game.

Cleveland is still the number two team in our countdown, and they used a 4-3 ATS record to retain their position. The Cavs have an overall mark of 36-20 ATS which includes a record of 20-7 ATS (2-1 ATS since our last countdown) at home and 16-13 ATS (2-2 ATS since our last countdown) on the road. Cleveland’s home ATS record is the best in the league while the Magic own the highway with their 20-9 ATS mark on the road this season. Cleveland stumbled and suffered their first ATS loss of the season when coming in off a SU loss in their last game, they also picked up a win in that situation, last issues record had them at 9-0 ATS on the season they are now 10-1 ATS but still a very solid play. The Cavs are 9-3 ATS for 75 percent winners when playing with no rest their last 12 times to post. Cleveland’s top total situation paid very well since the last report, they went 1-4 ‘under’ when playing with only one day of rest. Their overall record is 9-19 ‘under’ for 67.9 percent winners when playing the ‘under’ off one day of rest. Key Angle: Play ON Cleveland as a conference favorite when they are coming off a SU loss and ATS win in their previous game, 26-7-1 ATS.

Our number three team in the countdown moved up a spot from our last report. Charlotte used a 4-3 ATS record to knock Oklahoma City out of the third spot and in fact out of the top five altogether. Charlotte has been the hottest team of late going 6-1 ATS to get into Issue Number 8 and then this periods 4-3 ATS for a 10-4 ATS combined mark the last two issues. Charlotte is 34-24 ATS overall on the year using a 16-11 ATS road mark to propel them into the Top Five in the league. The Bobcats are 22-14 ATS when facing teams from the Eastern Conference and 10-2 ATS when facing teams from the Southeast Division. Charlotte has responded well after suffering an ATS loss in their previous game going 16-10 ATS for 61.5 percent winners. The Bobcats top total situation is when they are installed as an underdog posting a record of 5-11-1 ‘under’ in that role. Key Angle: Play ON Charlotte when facing a conference opponent after losing SU and going ‘under’ in their last two games, 17-5 ATS.

The number four spot in this edition of the countdown is last editions number five team, the Milwaukee Bucks who posted a record of only 3-3 ATS but managed to move up in the countdown. The Bucks are 33-25-2 ATS on the season which includes records of 16-12 ATS at home averaging 104.1 points per game and allowing 99.5 points per game. On the road the Bucks are 17-13-2 ATS averaging 95.8 points per game and allowing 100.3 points per game. Milwaukee’s scoring differential at home is +4.5 ppg. and their scoring differential on the road is -4.5 ppg. The Bucks are 9-3 ATS for 75 percent winners when facing teams from the Southeast Division and 6-1 ATS for 85.7 percent winners when facing teams from the Southwest Division. The Bucks top total situation is when they are installed as a home underdog going 9-1 ‘over’ this season. Key Angle: Play AGAINST Milwaukee when playing on the road after winning SU and going ‘under’ in their last two games, 8-25-2 ATS.

We have reached the fifth and final spot in our countdown and this team is to our countdown what “Norm” and “Cliff” were to Cheers, regulars. Boston is the number five team in the countdown using a 4-2 ATS mark to get back in and knock the Thunder out. Milwaukee took advantage of the Celtics 2-4 ATS record and knocked them out of our last edition but they are back and have an overall ATS record of 33-26 ATS on the season. The Celtics are 16-12 ATS at home and 17-14 ATS on the road. Boston is 20-5 SU and 15-10 ATS after losing ATS in their last game averaging 104.8 points per game and allowing 93.4 points per game with a scoring differential of +11.5 ppg. They are also 16-9 ‘over’ in those contests. When playing on two days rest the Celtics are 11-0 SU and 9-2 ATS for 81.8 percent winners, they have gone ‘over’ in those games at a rate of 8-3 their last 11. Boston has three top total situations the first is when playing on the road they are 9-22 ‘under’, playing with no rest they are 3-11 ‘under’ and the third situation is when the Celtics are playing the second of back-to-back road games they are 0-5 ‘under’. Key Angle: Play AGAINST Boston after winning their last three games SU and going ‘over’, 7-21 ATS their last 28 times to post.
