Friday's Best NBA Bets
By Covers.com

Cleveland Cavaliers at Orlando Magic (-9, 193.5)

With eight road wins, the Cavaliers already have surpassed last year's total of seven. Cleveland has scored victories at Boston, Denver and Oklahoma City and pushed Atlanta to overtime on Wednesday before losing by one.

Kyrie Irving is no longer a teenager. He turned 20 on Thursday’s off day as he continues his march toward the Rookie of the Year award. Irving is averaging 19.0 points, tops among rookies, and his 5.7 assists rank second. Irving has three game-winning shots this season, but missed one at the buzzer Wednesday.

The Magic has lost two of three and has the look of a bored team waiting for the postseaon. Turnovers and defensive mistakes continue to hurt Orlando, though the Magic prevailed 103-93 over Phoenix on Wednesday.

The Cavs are 5-1 ATS in their last six road games. The Magic is 2-6 ATS in its last eight games following a SU win.

Pick: Cavaliers

New Jersey Nets at Atlanta Hawks (-8, 188.5)

The Hawks look to complete a four-game season sweep of the visiting Nets on Friday. Atlanta beat New Jersey three times over the first two weeks of the season, including a 37-point road trouncing.

Guard Joe Johnson is on another hot streak, averaging 25.1 points over the last eight contests after a four-game absence due to knee tendinitis. Johnson scored 22 points and hit several key shots in Wednesday's overtime win over the Cavaliers. Forward Josh Smith had 32 points and 17 rebounds.

The Nets have lost four consecutive games, including Wednesday’s loss to the Washington Wizards when guard Deron Williams was ejected. Williams and coach Avery Johnson were both ejected during a run of 14 consecutive points by the Wizards. Guard MarShon Brooks is shooting just 24.3 percent (9 of 37) during the four-game skid.

The Nets have allowed 100 or more points in nine of 12 March games and defense isn’t the only problem. New Jersey has scored under 100 points in five of its last six games.

The home team is 12-4 ATS in the last 16 meetings.

Pick: Hawks

Friday's NBA Tips
By Kevin Rogers
VegasInsider.com

The Friday NBA card is full with 11 games to wager on, as basketball fans will be busy with both pro ball and the Sweet 16 in action. We'll take a quick look at each NBA contest, as half of the card gets underway in the 7:00 PM EST hour, starting with one of the hotter teams in the Eastern Conference heading north of the border.

Knicks at Raptors

The best thing that has happened to New York (besides the Jets acquiring Tim Tebow) recently is the exit of head coach Mike D'Antoni. Since Mike Woodson took over for D'Antoni, the Knicks own a 5-0 SU/ATS record, while New York can get back to .500 with a win at Toronto. The Raptors were rolling from an ATS standpoint, but consecutive losses to the Knicks and Bulls have dropped Toronto to 2-6 SU/ATS the last eight contests. New York has compiled just a 3-5 ATS record as road favorites this season, including a non-cover in a last-second triumph at the Air Canada Center, 90-87 on Valentine's Day.

Bucks at Bobcats

Milwaukee is suddenly turning into a force by cashing in eight consecutive games, as the Bucks try to avenge an opening night loss at Charlotte. The Bobcats stunned the Bucks in a 96-95 victory as three-point home 'dogs on December 26, rallying from a double-digit halftime deficit. Since that win, Charlotte is just 7-36, while putting together a 16-game skid at one point. Charlotte is 5-2-1 ATS the last eight games in the home 'dog role, including outright victories over Orlando and Toronto. The Bucks are taking care of business as a road favorite since early February by compiling a 5-1 SU/ATS record, while cashing the 'over' five times in that stretch.

Cavaliers at Magic

Orlando is probably the toughest team to figure out from an ATS perspective this season as the Magic is 9-9 ATS the last 18 games. The Cavs fell short in Wednesday's overtime loss at Atlanta, but Cleveland cashed as a road underdog for the fifth time in six opportunities. Cleveland has cashed the 'over' in four consecutive games, while allowing at least 100 points in each of those contests. The last time the Cavs visited central Florida in early February, Cleveland trailed Orlando by 18 heading into the fourth quarter. Byron Scott's team rallied back to cut the deficit to five points in the final two minutes, but the Magic held on for a 102-94 win as 7½-point favorites.

Suns at Pacers

Phoenix continues a four-game road swing looking to snap a two-game losing streak at Indiana. The Pacers play with no rest following Thursday's contest at Washington, as Indiana plays the second of three straight nights. Despite Wednesday's loss at Orlando, the Suns are 11-3 ATS the last 14 contests, while posting a 6-2 ATS record in the underdog role. The Pacers haven't been strong in the home favorite role, going 4-9 ATS the previous 13 games, but two of those victories came by double-digits against the Blazers and Clippers.

Heat at Pistons

Detroit returns home following a 1-4 road trip as the Pistons will be tested against the red-hot Heat. Miami heads to the Palace of Auburn Hills looking for its seventh victory in 10 games, but Erik Spoelstra's club is 2-5 ATS the last seven contests. Pistons' guard Rodney Stuckey is listed as a game-time decision after sitting out Wednesday's one-point defeat at Denver with a toe injury. Detroit hung around in all five games on its road swing, but the Pistons couldn't hold on to fourth quarter leads against the Suns, Clippers, and Nuggets. However, the Pistons are 8-1-1 ATS the last 10 games as a home underdog, including a cover as eight-point 'dogs in a 101-98 loss to the Heat on January 25.

Nets at Hawks

Atlanta is coming off a pair of close finishes against Boston and New Jersey at home, as the Hawks welcome in the unraveling Nets. The Hawks needed overtime to stave off the Cavs as 6 ½-point 'chalk,' while Atlanta has won just four of its last nine contests. The Nets lost three straight games at home to sub .500 teams in defeats to the Hornets, Cavs, and Wizards, while Deron Williams and Avery Johnson were ejected in Wednesday's defeat to Washington. Atlanta owns a perfect 3-0 record against New Jersey this season, as the Nets cashed twice in the underdog role. New Jersey has been erratic all season long, but this team picked up outright 'dog wins at Dallas, Chicago, Philadelphia, and New York.

Celtics at 76ers

The last time these teams met up two weeks ago, Philadelphia handed Boston a 103-71 beatdown as 6½-point favorites. The Celtics conclude their eight-game road trip on Friday against a Sixers' squad that has lost four of their last five games, including an 82-79 defeat to the Knicks as four-point 'chalk.' Philadelphia owns a 1-4 ATS record the previous five contests against teams playing with no rest, as Boston is coming off a game Thursday at Milwaukee. Doc Rivers' team is a dreadful 1-6 SU/ATS on the highway with no rest, including double-digits losses at Philadelphia, Toronto, New Orleans, Indiana, and Dallas.

Wolves at Thunder

Minnesota limps home following Friday's game at Oklahoma City, the last of seven contests away from the Target Center. The Wolves have alternated ATS wins and losses the previous seven games, including a 16-point defeat at San Antonio on Wednesday. Oklahoma City is also riding the inconsistency train of late, by alternating wins and losses in each of the last nine games, coming off Wednesday's blowout of the Clippers. In the only meeting of the season, the Thunder staved off the Wolves in Minneapolis, 104-100 as 5½-point road favorites on December 26, but OKC played with no rest after topping Orlando on opening night.

Mavericks at Spurs

The battle of the Lone Star State takes place at AT&T Center as San Antonio attempts to avenge a loss at Dallas last Saturday. The Spurs are 4-1 SU/ATS the last five games, but fell to the Mavs, 106-99 as three-point 'dogs for the second time this season. The Mavs try to get on track after seeing their four-game winning streak go up in flames against the Lakers on Wednesday. Dallas has struggled on the highway recently by posting a 1-7 SU and 2-6 ATS record the last eight games, as the lone victory came at Denver on Monday. Rick Carlisle's team is pushing the pace as of late, cashing the 'over' in seven straight games.

Blazers at Lakers

Portland's ship is sinking fast after a promising start to the season, as the Blazers head to Staples Center to take on the Lakers. Los Angeles split a pair of games in Texas, closing out the short trip with an impressive underdog victory at Dallas. The Blazers are a dreadful 1-6 ATS the previous seven games as a road 'dog, as the only win came with a late rally over a Bulls' team playing without Derrick Rose. In the last meeting in Southern California, the Blazers were held to just seven points in the first quarter of a 103-92 loss to the Lakers in late February.

Nuggets at Jazz

Denver begins a seven-game road swing after finishing off a nine-game homestand by staving off Detroit, 116-115. The Nuggets failed to cover seven times on the long stay at the Pepsi Center, but managed to win five games. George Karl's club makes the short trip to Salt Lake City to take on a Utah squad that has been on fire lately by winning four straight. These two division rivals split the first two meetings of the season (both in Denver), as the Jazz grabbed the previous matchup, 106-97 as 10 ½-point underdogs in mid-January.
