NBA: Streaks, Tips, Notes

Los Angeles Clippers at Washington Wizards

The NBA takes center stage Friday with five of the twelve scheduled games non-conference ones. History suggest the Eastern Conference teams are in for a rough ride. Our trusted NBA Database tells us Eastern Conference teams have been duds running the hardwood against Western Conference opponents this season posting a 39-84 SU record with a cash draining 55-68 mark at the betting window. Wizards are the only Eastern Conference team playing tonight with a winning record in these affairs which stands at 3-1 SU, 2-2 ATS. That may take a hit as they're hosting Clippers who are 6-1 SU, 5-2 ATS vs the Eastern Conference. In other action, Bulls 3-5 SU, 1-7 ATS in non-conference games entertain Blazers hitting the hardwood at 10-0 SU, 6-4 ATS. Hornets 1-9 SU, 3-7 ATS host the Grizzlies at 5-2 SU/ATS, Cavaliers 2-5 SU/ATS in non-conference clashes visit Pelicans with it's 2-4 SU, 3-3 ATS record, Heat owning a 3-5 SU/ATS ledger head into Utah to take on Jazz who sit at 3-6 SU, 5-4 ATS. Finally, Pistons a dreadful 1-10 SU, 5-6 ATS try to pick up a rare non-conference win in Phoenix against the Suns who are 6-4 SU/ATS vs the Eastern Conference.

AccuScore NBA Pick
By: Rohit Ghosh
AccuScore.com

AccuScore’s computer simulates games 10,000 times to predict their outcome. Throughout the basketball season, we’ll be stacking up these forecasts against Las Vegas money-lines and spreads. When AccuScore gives a team a better chance to win than the money-line odds imply or suggest a high chance of covering the spread, it’s a recommended play.

The Raptors on Friday host a Pacers team that is playing to avoid a seven-game losing streak, which would be their longest in five seasons. With Indiana getting just 54 points per game from their starters (No. 28 in league), expect Friday night to be a lopsided contest.

AccuScore has the Raptors as solid 84.4 percent favorites to win the game outright, which translates into money-line odds of -540. The average score after 10,000-plus simulations is 104-92.

While sports books have Toronto priced at -460 -- and the Raptors are 10-3 SU in their last 13 games at home -- laying -540 is not necessarily an attractive proposition.

There is a 54.1 percent chance the total combined score stays UNDER 198. The total has gone UNDER in four of the last five meetings between these teams.

But our best bet is against the point spread....

AccuScore Best Bet: There is a 54.7 percent chance Toronto covers as 9-point favorites, a 4-star (out of 4) AccuScore hot trend. Toronto is 11-4 ATS in its last 15 games at home against Indiana.

Keep an eye out: What stands out the most in the simulated box score is the four more turnovers Indiana commits than Toronto, as well as the Raptors' advantage on the offensive glass. They average 3-4 more offensive rebounds than do the Pacers.

Projected leaders

David West: 12 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal, 1 block, 2 TOs
Kyle Lowry: 19 points, 8 assists, 6 rebounds, 2 steals, 2 TOs

Friday's Tip Sheet
By Kevin Rogers
VegasInsider.com

Blazers at Bulls

Portland’s five-game winning streak came to a screeching halt in Wednesday’s 90-82 loss at Minnesota as 10-point favorites, as the Blazers continue their five-game road swing in Chicago. Since dropping their first two away games to start the season, Portland has won seven of its past eight on the highway, but own a 2-4 ATS record in its last six on the road. The Blazers have owned the Bulls recently, capturing the past seven meetings in the series with the last loss coming in November 2010.

Chicago is seeking back-to-back wins for just the second time in nearly a month tonight after Wednesday’s blowout of a short-handed Brooklyn squad, 105-80 as 11-point favorites. The Bulls have topped the 100-point mark in seven straight games, while going ‘over’ five times in this stretch (both ‘unders’ came against the Nets). Tom Thibodeau’s team covered at the United Center for just the second time in eight tries this season, while the Bulls are 3-5 SU and 1-7 ATS against the Western Conference.

Clippers at Wizards

Los Angeles looks to extend its hot streak to 10 tonight with a trip to the Nation’s Capital, as the Clippers own a 7-2 ATS record mark in the past nine wins. The Clips held off the Pacers on Wednesday, 103-96 to barely cover as 6 ½-point road favorites, the fifth straight victory on the highway for Doc Rivers’ club. In 15 of 16 wins this season, Los Angeles has topped the 100-point mark, while the Clips are just 2-4 when they score less than 100 points.

The Wizards return home after knocking off the Magic at the buzzer, 91-89 on Wednesday, but failed to cover as 5½-point road favorites. Washington fell to 0-3 ATS the past three games, while putting a 5-7 ATS record at the Verizon Center this season. The Wizards have done most of their damage this season against the Eastern Conference, including a 7-0 record against Orlando, Milwaukee, and Indiana, while dropping nine of the past 10 meetings with the Clippers.

Magic at Hawks

Orlando began the season at 2-6, but the Magic has been competitive recently with a 7-9 record the past 16 games. Jacque Vaughn’s club has put together a respectable 6-5 SU and 8-3 ATS mark in the previous 11 away contests, including outright wins at Phoenix, Utah, and Sacramento on their latest road swing. The Magic have been solid defense of late, holding six of their past seven opponents below 100 points, resulting in six ‘unders.’

The Hawks are making a push towards the top of the Southeast Division with an eight-game winning streak, while covering seven times in this stretch. The latest victory came on Wednesday over the 76ers as 13-point favorites in a 95-79 triumph, the fifth straight win at Philips Arena. This is the first meeting this season between these Southeast Division rivals, as the two teams split four games last season, as Atlanta had taken the previous six matchups prior to the 2013-14 campaign.

Cavaliers at Pelicans

Cleveland plays with no rest tonight at New Orleans, coming off last night’s 103-94 loss at Oklahoma City to snap an eight-game winning streak. LeBron James sat out with soreness in his left knee, while Kyrie Irving banged knees with Russell Westbrook and hit the floor, but Irving is expected to play tonight. James is questionable for tonight’s contest, as the Cavs built an early 11-point lead before the Thunder came back and won to cash as 7½-point favorites. Cleveland owns a 4-2 SU and 3-3 ATS record with no rest this season, while posting a 1-3 SU/ATS mark on the road against Western Conference opponents.

The Pelicans have been up and down all season long as evidenced by a 10-11 record. New Orleans fell short at Dallas on Wednesday, 112-107, dropping to 1-3 this season within the ultra-tough Southwest Division. The Pelicans have won all three games this season at home coming off a road loss, while not beating a team at home that currently sits above the .500 mark, even though New Orleans knocked off Oklahoma City earlier this month in Kevin Durant’s first game back from injury.

Lakers at Spurs

San Antonio always figures it out, somehow. The Spurs beat the struggling Knicks on Wednesday night without the services of Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili, and Kawhi Leonard. San Antonio had seven players in double-figures in a 109-95 triumph to improve to 8-1 at the AT&T Center. After starting the season at 0-3 ATS at home, the Spurs have covered four of the past six in the Alamo, while being listed as double-digit favorites in each of the last six.

The Lakers head back to Texas after splitting a pair of games at Dallas and Houston last month, as Los Angeles begins a three-game road trip. Byron Scott’s team hasn’t broken the 98-point mark in the past four games, in spite of holding off Sacramento on Tuesday for just the sixth win of the season. The Lakers are currently on a five-game ‘under’ streak, while each of their past three road contests have gone ‘under’ the total. Los Angeles has dropped eight of the previous nine meetings with San Antonio, including a 93-80 setback at Staples Center last month as eight-point underdogs.
