Struggling Knicks face Bucks
By: Zach Cohen
StatFox,com
The Knicks will be looking to stop a six-game losing skid when they face the Bucks in Milwaukee on Friday.
The Knicks and Bucks met in New York on Wednesday night, and the teams played a very exciting game. Milwaukee trailed by double digits in that one, but the team ultimately pulled out a 105-104 victory as a three-point road favorite. SF Giannis Antetokounmpo (23.9 PPG, 9.1 RPG, 5.9 APG, 2.0 BPG, 1.9 SPG) was the hero for the Bucks, hitting a game-winning fadeaway jumper from the top of the key as time expired. These teams are now trending in opposite directions, as the Knicks have lost five straight and the Bucks have won three in a row. The Bucks have also dominated this head-to-head series in recent years, as they are now 7-2 SU and 5-4 ATS versus the Knicks over the past three seasons. That includes 2-1 records both SU and ATS when hosting New York. One trend that works in the Knicks’ favor coming into this game is the fact that they are 6-0 ATS off a home loss this season and 8-2 ATS after a home game where both teams scored 100 or more points. PF Kristaps Porzingis (Achilles) is, however, questionable for New York, and it would be tough for the team to win this tough road game without its young stud.
If PF Kristaps Porzingis (20.1 PPG, 7.9 RPG, 1.9 BPG) is able to go then the Knicks would get a much-needed boost on Friday. New York blew the game on Wednesday night, so this team will need something to lift its spirits for this one. Porzingis’ presence would be big in this game, as the Bucks have one of the longer and more athletic teams in the league. He’d help defend the rim and also give SF Carmelo Anthony (22.1 PPG, 6.2 RPG, 2.9 APG, 1.0 SPG) some help. Anthony played well against the Bucks on Wednesday, finishing with 30 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists in the loss. While the Knicks didn’t come away with a win, that’s exactly the type of effort the team will need from Anthony on Friday. He played unselfishly and needs to do that more often. PG Derrick Rose (17.6 PPG, 4.4 APG, 4.0 RPG) is, however, the x-factor in this game. Rose was lousy on Wednesday, shooting just 7-for-18 from the floor. The Knicks need him to be a lot more efficient this time around.
Antetokounmpo has emerged as a superstar this season, and he should continue to dominate the league moving forward. He was unstoppable against the Knicks on Wednesday, finishing with 27 points, 13 boards, four assists, three blocks and a steal in 39 minutes of action. He was also an efficient 10-of-18 from the floor. Look for Antetokounmpo to be even more aggressive in this one, as he knows he can get good shots whenever he wants against the Knicks. Also, expect a better game from PF Jabari Parker (20.3 PPG, 5.7 RPG) on Friday. Parker took only 10 shots against the Knicks last game, and he is far too good of a scorer for that to happen. He knows he can’t be passive in this one and also happens to be a lot better at home. He’s averaging 21.9 PPG in Milwaukee and only 18.5 on the road.
Friday's Tip Sheet

Favorites managed to win six of eight games in the NBA on Thursday night, but underdogs took home the money in four of those contests. The Pacers, Raptors, and Blazers all cashed as home favorites, while the Spurs improved to 17-3 on the road with a 127-99 rout of the Nuggets. The Suns and Hawks each picked up road underdog victories, while the Hornets and Thunder covered in close away defeats.
Game of the Night – Clippers at Kings
Los Angeles still owns a solid record more than two months into the season (24-14 SU, 18-20 ATS), but injuries have taken a toll of late on this squad. Point guard Chris Paul has missed seven of the past eight games with a hamstring injuries as he is listed as doubtful for tonight’s contest in Sacramento. The Clippers have struggled, as expected, by losing five of seven times with the All-Star out of the lineup. However, Los Angeles is coming off a pair of home victories over Phoenix and Memphis following a six-game slide.
Sacramento (15-20 SU, 18-16-1 ATS) is coming off an ugly home setback to an undermanned Miami club on Wednesday, 107-102 as seven-point favorites. The loss was the third in the last four games for the Kings, as center DeMarcus Cousins was limited to 13 points on 4-of-15 shooting, while failing to knock down a three-pointer in four attempts. The only positive to come from that defeat was seven Kings scoring in double-figures, but Sacramento fell to 2-5 ATS in its last seven games at Golden 1 Center.
The Kings are in the midst of a season-long seven-game homestand, but Sacramento will be tested over the 12 days. After the Clippers visit tonight, the Warriors will be in Sacramento on Sunday, while Cleveland heads to California’s state capital next Friday. Los Angeles has captured seven of the past eight matchups in this series since January 2015, including a 121-115 triumph in Sacramento as 8½-point favorites on November 18.
Home Wizardry
Washington should be happy to back at the Verizon Center after losing consecutive games in Texas to Houston and Dallas. The Wizards are riding an eight-game home winning streak with the last loss in D.C. coming on December 6 to Orlando. Washington hosts Minnesota tonight, as the Wolves have slumped to a 5-12 record away from the Target Center. During Washington’s eight-game hot streak at home, the Wizards have compiled an incredible 8-0 ATS mark, including five covers as a favorite.
No Rest Necessary
The Rockets continue to score points at a frenetic pace this season, averaging 114.6 points per game. Houston heads to Orlando tonight after holding off Oklahoma City on Thursday, 118-116 for its sixth consecutive victory. The Rockets own a splendid 8-0 SU and 6-2 ATS mark with no rest this season, while scoring 123 and 125 points in past two road victories on the second of a back-to-back. Orlando has slumped to a 3-7 ATS mark as a home underdog this season, coming off Wednesday’s 111-92 blowout to Atlanta.
Revenge Factor
Golden State has lost five games this season, including three defeats by 20 points or more. One of those ugly setbacks came at Memphis on December 10 as 13-point favorites, 110-89. The Warriors scored their fewest points in a game this season, while falling behind by 23 points at halftime. Golden State wraps up a five-game homestand, but the Warriors have failed to cover in their last three contests as double-digit favorites. Memphis finishes off a four-game West Coast swing after losing consecutive games in Los Angeles to the Clippers and Lakers, but the Grizzlies have dropped three straight contests only once this season.
Good to See You Again
The Bucks knocked off the Knicks at the buzzer on Wednesday thanks to a Giannis Antetokounmpo jumper, 105-104. New York cashed as short home underdogs, but dropped its sixth consecutive game, including its third in a row at Madison Square Garden. The Knicks head to Milwaukee tonight looking to end a six-game road losing streak, but New York has gone 3-3 ATS in this stretch. The Bucks have won nine of 11 times in the role of a home favorite this season, while holding each of their last foes in this role to less than 100 points.
Head-to-Head Trends
The Celtics have won nine consecutive matchups with the 76ers since the start of the 2014-15 season. Philadelphia travels to Boston tonight looking to avenge a 107-106 home loss to the Celtics as 10-point underdogs in early December.
Cleveland dominated Brooklyn in its last matchup on December 23 by 20 points, although the Cavs led by 41 points after three quarters. The Cavs have won four of the last five matchups with the Nets, but Brooklyn captured the past meeting at Barclays Center as 9½-point underdogs, 104-95 last March.
The Heat continue their West Coast swing with the Lakers tonight at Staples Center. Miami erased a 19-point deficit against Los Angeles two weeks ago in a 115-107 home victory. The Heat have won eight of the past nine meetings with the Lakers, but lost in overtime at Staples Center last season as 10½-point favorites, 102-100.
