Friday's Tip Sheet
By Kevin Rogers
VegasInsider.com

Underdogs cashed in four of five games on Thursday night, including outright victories by the Magic, Bucks, and Nuggets. The Celtics picked up a backdoor cover as 10½-point underdogs in a 128-122 defeat at the Cavaliers. The lone favorite to cash was Golden State, who crushed Oklahoma City as 12-point chalk in a 122-96 rout to improve to 4-1.

Game of the Night – Warriors at Lakers

Since getting routed in the season opener by the Spurs, the Warriors have rolled to four straight victories, including double-digit blowouts this week against the Blazers and Thunder. In last night’s 122-96 triumph over Oklahoma City, Kevin Durant burnt his old team for 39 points on 15-of-24 shooting, while knocking down seven three-pointers. After starting the season at 0-2 ATS, the Warriors have covered three straight, while holding their first opponent to below 100 points on Thursday.

Golden State will be playing its third game in four nights with a trip down I-5 to face the Lakers, as Los Angeles is returning home from a 1-3 road trip. The Lakers lost the first three contests before stunning the Hawks as 11½-point underdogs, 123-116 on Wednesday. L.A. has done a solid job covering numbers this season, posting a 4-1 ATS mark, as Luke Walton’s team is playing only its second home game after beating the Rockets in the season opener, 120-114 as six-point underdogs.

Last season, the Warriors won three of four matchups with the Lakers, but Los Angeles shocked Golden State in their final meeting as 17½-point underdogs, 112-95. The Warriors are currently 10½-point road favorites with the total set at 226½.

Searching for a Win

Wizards (0-3 SU/ATS) vs. Hawks

The Scott Brooks era in Washington has gotten off to a slow start as the Wizards have dropped their first three contests. The Wizards fell short in a 113-103 defeat to the Raptors on Wednesday in their home opener, as Washington has allowed at least 112 points in all three losses. The OVER has cashed in all three games, including the season opening loss at Atlanta, 114-99. The Wizards meet up with the Hawks once again as Atlanta has won three of the past four meetings at the Verizon Center.

Pelicans (0-5 SU, 1-4 ATS) vs. Suns

New Orleans hasn’t had much luck this season, coming off an overtime setback at Memphis on Wednesday, 89-83 as 5½-point underdogs. The Pelicans are winless in three opportunities at Smoothie King Center, including losses in the favorite role to the Nuggets and Bucks. Even Anthony Davis’ production has slipped after scoring 95 points in the first two games as the Pelicans’ All-Star put up only 10 points at Memphis. The Suns head to the Big Easy after knocking off the Blazers in overtime on Wednesday for Phoenix’s first win of the season.

Mavericks (0-4 SU, 1-3 ATS) vs. Blazers

Dallas is showing its age through this 0-4 start as Dirk Nowitzki has missed two games already while point guard Deron Williams is nursing a groin injury. The Mavericks put up a season-low 81 points in Wednesday’s 16-point defeat at Utah as 3½-point underdogs, as Dallas scored 33 points in the first half. Rick Carlisle’s club is playing only its second home game of the season, as the Mavs are riding a three-game UNDER streak. Portland has eclipsed the OVER in all five games this season, but is coming off back-to-back losses to Golden State and Phoenix. Dallas won two of three matchups from Portland last season with both Mavericks’ victories coming in overtime.

Notable head-to-head trends

The Raptors captured seven of 11 meetings from the Heat last season, including four of seven in the second round of the playoffs. Toronto posted a 5-1 record against Miami at the Air Canada Center, while covering four of six times.

Charlotte swept the four-game set from Brooklyn last season, but the Nets covered three times in the underdog role. Tonight, the Nets are listed as 6½-point home underdogs against the Hornets.

Derrick Rose returns to Chicago as a member of the Knicks as New York tries to overcome a 1-3 start. The Knicks won three of four matchups from the Bulls in 15-16, as the two squads split a pair of meetings at the United Center.

Five of the last six meetings between the Clippers and Grizzlies have finished UNDER the total, including two of three matchups last season. Los Angeles is 4-1 in the past five matchups against Memphis, but the Grizzlies won the lone contest last season played at FedEx Forum.

Point guard Tony Parker will sit out tonight for the Spurs as they face the Jazz for the second time in three days. Utah got the best of San Antonio on Wednesday in a 106-91 road win, but the Spurs have grabbed seven of the last 10 meetings from the Jazz.
